The United Nations

• They came up with the Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

• The idea was to have minimum rights for every person in every country.

• All 48 members of the UN signed it.

But this wasn’t a part of British Law until...

• In 1998, Parliament passed the Human Rights Act.

• This protects British Citizens under British Law.
