M.Sc. Dissertation
Dissertation Topic – Biochemical profiling of Cyanobacteria: effects under ultra violet
light
Objectives: To study the screening effect and screening compounds produced by
Cyanobacterium against UV radiation.
Description: Today’s biggest concern for environment is global warming and the
increase in UV radiation in atmosphere, caused due to ozone layer depletion. In
response the Cyanobacteria produces many compounds which help them in screening
the harmful effects and prevent them from dying. Scytonemin, MAA, and extracellular
polysaccharides are mainly produced by Cyanobacteria to fight this stress condition.
These compounds are also helpful to the humans which can act in UV screening and can
act in preventing various skin diseases caused by UV radiations. Moreover some of
these compounds along with screening effects also show antioxidant effect.
Duration: 6 months
