Introduction

SPM® RFID technology is designed with efficiency and safety in mind. Iron equipped with SPM® RFID tags can be quickly scanned to efficiently manage inventory, while allowing users to easily determine the inspection status of their iron before putting it into the field.

The SPM® RFID app

Provides ability to rapidly verify asset inspection status and view inspection certificates Expedites inventory management on site or at service facility Reduces misidentification during inspection Leverages the SPM® Asset Management Program (A.M.P.) to immediately update and store iron and

RFID asset tag data.

Accessing Mobile App

The SPM® RFID mobile application can be found on either the Apple App Store for iOS or Google Play for Android. Within either app store, search “WeirRFID” to find the app and download on to the device.

Once the application has been downloaded, the below icon will be visible on the device. For Android users, you will need to enable “phone and storage” under the App permissions. For most devices, you can access this under Settings, Applications, and App Permissions. Some devices will ask to change these permissions upon initial download.

Setup Prior to utilizing the application, the user may have to configure their phone to use the appropriate Bluetooth RFID scanner. The SPM®RFID mobile app has been written to utilize two handheld scanners, the Zebra RFD8500 and the Technology Solutions Limited 1166 UHF RFID Reader. For detailed information regarding the use, setup and maintenance of the either of these scanners, reference the user guide provided with that product. Please consult that document as well for specific instructions on pairing the device to the appropriate mobile phone.

Logging in to the App Upon opening the application, the first screen is the Log In page to access the server. The user will input their AMP Log In and Password.

NOTE: The user will only be required to complete this log in when the app is initially downloaded and opened for the first time, or when the Clear Data action is selected within the application.

The URL as a default is set to the live production server. Clicking the icon to the right will allow the user to select the QA test server. Most will not have access to the QA test server and should always maintain the default setting. The user also has the ability to click the icon to the right of the Password field to unhide the characters typed within the field if needed.

Choose the appropriate model scanner

When changing between one model type and another, you must “Clear Data” as explained later in this document, to reset the application to the original settings and chose the model to be used. This step is not necessary when switching scanners within the same manufacturing brand.

The Terms and Conditions need to be accepted when the application is downloaded and opened for the first time, or re-opened after being closed.

After accepting the terms and conditions the user will enter the AMP Log In screen. The user will input their AMP Log In and Password. The user is required to log in each time the application closes.

NOTE: The active list of scanned tags will be saved if the application times out or is closed. It will be removed if Clear Data button on log in page is selected.

The Clear Data button is used when switching users from different locations, companies, or switching from one model of scanner to another. If you switch from one user to another and want the app to return to the original settings, select Clear Data. It will ask you to accept that the data will be deleted. It will then provide an alert. The application must then be closed out. Fully close the application using the process appropriate to the phone being used. Reopen the application and start the log in process.

From the home screen, the user has several options in addition to beginning to scan asset tags.

By clicking on the Menu icon, the user can select from a list of actions:

Help – guidance on use of application Logout – user log out of application Send Log To Server & Send Log To Mail – these are administrative functionalities which are not useful

for most users The Search button will allow the user to search/filter the list of scanned serial numbers to locate a particular asset.

The Manual Serial Number Entry field will allow the user to type in a serial number to add to the asset list. This may be useful when the user wishes to utilize the functionality of the application for an asset that is not equipped with a SPM® RFID tag. The user may tap inside the box to bring up the keyboard and manually type in a serial number. Tap the green “plus” button to add it to the list.

NOTE: This will only return information for parts that are in AMP and accessible by the user’s access rights.

Scanning Asset Tags To scan asset tags, orientate the scanner so that the antenna is pointing towards the RFID band, ideally to the front face of the tag. The scanner has an effective read range of 2-3 feet, but the range may vary by orientation or objects blocking a tag. The trigger on the scanner can be held while pointing the antenna at multiple tags. An audible beep will can be heard upon the successful scan of a tag. The image below shows the addition of two scanned assets to the asset list.

NOTE: Best practice has shown that scanning assets should be done in batches of around 5 assets at a time. This will help the user verify that all desired assets are verified to be scanned and that updates to the asset information through the application are conducted on the correct assets.

NOTE: Scanned tag list will be saved if the application times out or is closed. It will be removed if Clear Data button on log in page is selected.

Each AMP log in has an associated Organization and Company. When scanning new items directly from the Weir Oil & Gas factory, the items are automatically assigned to the logged in user’s Organization and Company. When searching for these items in AMP, the user must look at that company level unless the assets are assigned to subsequent levels in the Edit Organization Unit portion of the app, explained later in this document.
