Rows

● Can also be known as sections● These are the top level containers● You can apply edge to edge

background colours to them



Columns

● They live within the Row● You can have multiple columns

either to the left or right of each other

● They typically stack vertically on mobile devices



Modules

● Sometimes referred to as page builder widgets

● These are the building blocks of any design

● Examples including pricing tables, headlines & optin boxes

● They go into the column

Let’s find what makes a good page builder

• We are talking at a abstract higher level• We’ll get into the more nitty gritty features later



The Criteria

• Ease of use• Availability of addons• Free versions• Functionality & reliability• Consequences of deactivation• Code bloating



My Observations

Ease of Use• Elementor is a little more

complicated than other page builders for me

• It get confusing knowing what to expect and where to click

Addons• There are a few free addons in the

repository• There is also the ability to upgrade

for more modules• And more features!

Free Components• The beauty of this is the majority

of it is free• But it’s only fair to have a paid

version to support development and they do

Reliability• I found very few glitches while

using this plugin• I haven’t used it much but so far

only one glitch in one day when it got stuck

Consequences of Deactivation• I’m not entirely sure but we’ll

check it out live!

Code Bloating• Let’s find this out too!

Areas to look

Settings• Can you add post types• Toggle overrides• Block certain users• Set a content width

Edit Page• Does it have a wide area template• Does it have a quick launch• Does it a backend editor• Can you switch back to text mode

Templates and Libraries• Does it have a library of rows and

modules that you can reuse• Can you create your own

Page Builder Mode• Can you undo actions?• Does it autosave?• Can you preview your work?• Does it have responsive previews• What about default styles?• What about css editing?



Page Builder Mode Friendliness• Does it have a colour picker?• Can you manipulate margins on

rows, columsn and modules• Can you set a default colour to the

row and override it on the module?

Front end edit page mode• Does it have an ability to jump

directly into the page builder from the front end of the site

• Does it have a horizontal & responsive menu widget for headers?• Does it have galleries, sliders and other designer gloss• What about the Grids that work with custom post types?• Does it have an icon family and support icons• Can you use traditional WP widgets
