CONVERSATION WITH GOD Prayer is our focus this weekend. In the Gospel, Jesus gives his disciples, and us, the Lord’s Prayer, which we have cherished through the centuries. The first two words encompass much about our faith—unity among all Chris ans (Our), and a sense that we are in a deeply bonded rela onship with God (Father). In Genesis, we see Abraham in conversa-
onal prayer, in his creaturely humility before his Creator, seeking mercy and compassion for the innocent. The psalm is a lyrical prayer of thanksgiving and praise for the God who answered the sincere prayers of a people who had called out for help, showing them mercy. In Luke’s Gospel, the disciples want to pray like Jesus, with the same in macy—to experience God as Abba in the depths of their being. Do we try to talk to God? Do we listen for answers? This rela onship is always a work in progress.

Sacramental Policies
ANOINTING OF THE SICK At the 8:30am Mass on the first Friday of each month or by appt.
BAPTISM For information on Baptism please go to stmichaels77.org under
the parish info tab. Godparents must be practicing Catholics who are confirmed and married in the Church, if married.
CONFESSION
Confessions are heard after mass on the weekdays or on Sunday half hour before mass time.
CONFIRMATION
Confirmation will be given students in 8th grade or above. They must have completed the 8th grade religious education class and optimally the 7th as well. Sponsors must be practicing Catholics
who are already confirmed and married in the Church, if married. Parents should not be sponsors for their own children. For
information on Confirmation preparation for adults please contact the pastor.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
First Holy Communion will be offered to children in Grade 2. Children must attend CCD regularly throughout Grade 2 in order to
receive the Sacrament in May of that year. Students will also be prepared for the Sacrament of Reconciliation in Grade 2.
MARRIAGE
Both parties are expected to participate in the preparation program. Parties must notify the pastor at least one year prior to their
proposed marriage date. Please meet with the pastor for a fuller explanation and to make arrangements.

Every mass is available with the exception of the mass that is offered for the parishioners (Pro Populo) and
Thursdays, to be requested for a particular intention. Be it the anniversary of wedding or death, birthday
blessings, soul of a deceased loved one, special favors or just in thanksgiving. The offering stipend is
$10.00, please call the parish office to request a mass intention. Payments can be made online or dropped off in the baskets that are at the exits of the center. Mass intentions that are made online over the weekend will not be seen until normal office hours Mon-Fri 9am -
5pm.

PRAYER OF THE WEEK O God, protector of those who hope in you, without whom nothing has firm founda on, nothing is holy,
bestow in abundance your mercy upon us and grant that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may use the good things that pass in such a way as to hold fast even now
to those that ever endure. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
Amen
Careful what you ask for. Jesus talks about praying for whatever we
need with faith and confidence, but he ends by asking, “How much more with the Father . . . give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?” (Luke 1:13). Is he saying there are limits to what we can ask for?
“Be careful what you ask for,” the saying warns. Just because we want something doesn’t mean it will be good for us. But if we have enough faith to pray for something, we probably would not pray for anything evil. So what is Jesus really saying? He is giving us two lessons about prayer.
First, he assures us that God does hear our prayers and answers them. Many people take “ask and you shall receive” so literally that they expect God to do their bidding no matter what they want. But God is free to do what is best for us, free to answer some prayers with a no when what we seek is against God’s will. So maybe our first prayer should be to ask God to show us what we really need.
That leads us to the second lesson: prayer changes us, not God. If we truly pray as Jesus prayed, we would say, “Not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39). It’s not easy to change our minds about what we want or need. To change our
desires from selfish to holy takes a lot of power, the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was raised from the dead by that power and we will be, too (Romans 8:11). So when Jesus promises that the Father will give the Spirit to us for asking, the Spirit is both the source of and the answer to our prayers. Let us ask the Spirit to empower us to desire and
pray for what we really need. Come and enjoy Noah Stegner, our 4pm Choir, as he performs songs
