Page 18: ReTHINK | ReIMAGINE US Highway 1 South of Dadeland

Multiway Boulevards are about

the well-being of our cities.

• Adaptability of the multiway boulevard as a road

type:

• Can incorporate different types of movement,

speeds and vehicles

• Represents a different approach to street

planning.

• Pedestrians are welcomed, their needs are met.

Strategy

1. Build support for a livable, multiway boulevard;

2. Incorporate as “Preferred Alternative” into:

a. FDOT 2016 Planning Study of US 1 from I-95 to

SW 152nd Street – April 2016;

b. FDOT 2017/18 Planning Study of US 1 SW 152nd

Street through Florida City;

3. LRTP, City and County Plans, 5 Year TIP

Street Segments and Intersections

1. Dadeland/Palmetto Expressway to and including the SW 104th Street Intersection - Complicated

transition with 826/Palmetto Expressway ramps, buses, bike/ped i.e. existing MPath. The City of

Pinecrest's almost completed Mobility Study by Street Plans is should help plus Eric Katz of

StreetPlans is in charge of the Dadeland Project as well as Chair of Ludlum Trail group. Target and

Cadillac are at 104th.

2. South of 104th to plan the SW 112th Street intersection with Veterans Memorial Park and the strip

shopping centers known as Sunniland with two (2) CVS Pharmacies, a Walgreens, banks, Whole

Foods, Best Buy and more!. Also plan the SW 124th Street intersection down to and including the

SW 128th Street intersection.

3. The Falls at the SW 136th Street Intersection should be enough; from SW 128th to SW 144th

4. SW 144 Street with Rockdale Pineland Preserve on the west side, strip commercial on the east.

Then to SW 152 Street includes the Palmetto Golf Course. This is the end of FDOT's first Planning

Study to start in April 2016.

5. South to SW 168th Street, from SW 152nd Street where US 1 forks and becomes one-ways with the

Busway separated from US 1. The team will need to conceptualize the transitioning lanes;

Palmetto Bay has redevelopment plans that must be considered.

Page 24: ReTHINK | ReIMAGINE US Highway 1 South of Dadeland

Will this be difficult? Very!

Is it even possible? Believe it!

Will it take a long time? Not as long as you’d

think.

Will it cost a lot? Of course! Everything does!

Should we be successful will construction be

disruptive? Big Time!

Will it be worth it? You bet! Absolutely.

Create a Main Street that favors people over

cars. That'll be forever!

In Conclusion . . .
