ACCOMPLISHMENTS/NOTE THE NEWSWORTHY

Put your most “newsworthy” accomplishments at the top of

the resume.

Usage of color - Although using color is still somewhat of a stretch for traditional resumes, it can also be used to make certain elements of a resume stand out. For instance, you can use blue to highlight important achievements or accolades in your resume.

Resume Length - Times have changed, and so has the criteria for resume length. The new guideline is: A resume should be long enough to entice hiring managers to call you for job interviews. Factors to consider include career summary, occupation, industry, years of experience, number of employers, scope of accomplishments and education/training.

Consider a One-Page Resume If:You have less than 6 years of

experience. You're pursuing a radical career

change, and your experience isn't relevant to your new goal.

You've held one or two positions with one employer.

7 Quantify your resume

Quantify everything! If you led a team, tell how many people were on the team; if you saved money, tell how much you saved. Managed a budget? Always include a number!

8Summaries and Objectives

 

Career summaries are recommended for most candidates, however there are exceptions. For instance, if you have less than three years of work experience or if you’re changing careers, it may be reasonable to have a one to two sentence objective statement.

Skills can be broken into functional sections or bullet points.

GIVE THEM A QUOTE: The most eye-catching element you can add to your resume is a hard-hitting, brief quote from a previous supervisor/client/employer that touts your expertise.

Position the quote in a prominent place on your resume where other compelling information is contained because I guarantee you, it will secure the read.

Hyperlink/QR or Quick Response codes make your information download-friendly. You can develop a QR to put on a resume through QR Code Generators.

The use of a QR code tells others that you are tech-savvy and like to be on the cutting edge of trends in those areas. You can include your LinkedIn hyperlink address or Quick Response (QR) code to make your information downloadable into a Web format for smart phones.

Incorporate Keywords

Print job postings you're interested in and highlight keywords. Are these words used on your resume? Transform your resume from a job description to a series of accomplishment statements that are of interest to the company by incorporating those keywords.

The Applicant Tracking System (ATS), which is software that can read your resume, will also reject your resume if it seems irrelevant to the job you applied for. A major reason you should tailor your resume.

IN CONCLUSION – MANY TRADITIONAL ASPECTS OF RESUME WRITING STILL EXIST, HOWEVER WITH TECHNOLOGY AND THE EVOLVING JOB MARKET THERE MANY MORE CHANGES TO COME ON HOW WE APPROACH RESUME WRITING.

Most of this information applies to competitive resumes, and is based on the type of job position that the applicant is applying to, which will depend on the usage of additional new techniques for resumes. 04/15/2023
