Do’s & Don’t of Resume writing DO Use sentence fragments in the past tense

Instead of “I assisted my teacher with organization”, write “Assisted teacher with organization.”

Proof read and have others review your resume

Put information in reverse chronological order with most current job or activity first: Target, cashier, June 2012 – present McDonald’s, cashier, November 2011 –

April 2012 Turn accomplishments into numbers

Instead of “Managed the front desk of a gym by checking in patrons at the front desk,” try “Managed a 230,000 square foot gym by checking in patrons at the front desk”

DON’T Use the word “I” Share too much info like birthday, religion,

weight, social security number, links to social media sites, ect.

Make grammar mistakes and typos Make resume too long- limit to one page,

front-only Skimp on information

List everything that you have been involved in during high school

Be modest Show off what you have accomplished

especially if it’s unique and interesting! Worry!

You will continually be updating your resume, use this as a motivation for getting involved
