8. CENTRE DEVELOPED: CENTER OF EXCELLENCE IN THIN FILM CENTRE

A Thin Film Centre with state of the art facilities for preparing thin films of metals, ceramics,

semiconductors and alloys for various applications such as, Optical Memory Devices, Solar Cells,

Sensors, Actuators and Micro Electro Mechanical Systems has been developed. The center has been

developed with grants received through sponsored projects from various agencies such as AICTE,

DST, UGC, DRDO and ISRO. Coordinator to establish the Clean Room facilities at PSG IAS.

Materials for Advanced Technologies (ICMAT 2011) at Singapore on 26the June to 1st

July 2011. The paper entitled ―Investigation on Piezoelectric Properties of PZT-PVdF Composites‖ and ―Enhancement of Anti-microbial Activity of Neem Leaf Extract Processed Functional Textiles Using Oxygen Plasma and Enzyme Pre-treatment‖.

• Dr. S. Jayakumar, awarded International travel grant by DS, New Delhi for

presenting two research papers at International conference on Antimicrobials research

ICAR 2010, Valladolid, Spain on 3-5th Novermber 2010.The papers entitled ‗Study on the effect of RF Plasma pretreatment on the Antimicrobial Efficacy of Neem leaf Extract processed Cotton Fabric‖ and ―The influence of Dc Air Plasma and Cellulase Enzyme on the Antimicrobial Activity of Azadirachtin (Neem Leaf Extract) treated cotton fabric‖.

Dr. S. Jayakumar, Professor visited Africa city of Technology and Sudan Academy of

Science in Khartoum and delivered lectures in Nano technology to the Post Graduate

students during May 14th

to 31st , 2013.

S. Jayakumar is the Professor and Head, Physics Department, PSG

College of Technology, Coimbatore. He has rich experience in teaching and

research in the area of Applied Physics, Materials Science, Thin Films and

MEMS over a period of more than three decades. He has successfully

completed more than 19 research projects funded by Department of Science

and Technology (DST), University Grants Commission (UGC), All India

Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Indian Space Research

Organisation (ISRO) etc. So far he guided 5 students for Ph.D and 7 students for M.Phil, more than

60 M.Sc projects and presently guiding 6 students for Ph.D. He has published six books and more

than 100 research papers in National and international Journals and Conferences. He is a Life

member of Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT), Indian Society for Technical Education

(ISTE) Institute of Smart Structures and Systems (ISSS) and Materials Research Society of India

(MRSI). He has visited Canada, Spain, Singapore Malaysia, France and Sudan to present/deliver

lecturers.
