Long long ago, before Planet Earth was born, there lived a kingdomful of happy children on Planet Mirth.
They laughed and played with all the other Planet members flowers, birds, animals, trees, rivers,
mountains, and even adults!

Life was a laugh for all, except Princess Pom-Pom. The only child of the Queenless King of Planet Mirth,
Princess Pom-Pom was born paralysed, hip-down. This meant that she couldnt walk, run, hop, dance
and play like other children. However, she could speak, giggle, sing and clap her hands in glee. But she
never did. All Princess Pom-Pom did was stare out of the palace window all day, thinking I have no
friends.

God helps those who help themselves, the King told his daughter on her 8th
birthday. And after he had
given Princess Pom-Pom her daily piggy-back ride, he gently put her down on the bed, told her to close
her eyes and count to 20.

18-19-20 whispered Pom-Pom, and finally opened her eyes. A Rolling Throne, made especially for
my little Princess! the King declared. His daughter could use it to stroll around in the palace grounds
to smell the flowers, sing with birds, make a whole bunch of friends and appreciate the beauty of nature
and the gift of friendship.

But Princess Pom-Pom was too afraid to go outdoors by herself; she had no friends, you see. One day, as
she was moving about on the Rolling Throne in her room, she saw the fat palace cat amble by. The lazy
creature jumped up on her lap (it was glad it wouldnt have to walk around anymore!) and Princess
Pom-Poms face lit up. Shed just made her first friend. Youre so woolly. Thats it! Im going to call
you Woolly, she smiled, finally understanding the proverb: A friend in need is a friend indeed.

Princess Pom-Pom finally found the courage to venture out, with Woolly on her lap, of course. She
observed all the sights, smells and sounds of the world but from a distance. No one wants to come
near me because Im different. I cant run, and dance and play like other children Why, God? Why did
you make me different? she wept, looking up at the sky that had suddenly turned a brilliant orange.

What she saw high up in the sky could only be called MAGIC! It was as though shed looked into a
mirror. Among the pretty clouds in the sky, there was one that looked just like her. Cloud Pom-Pom too
didnt have legs like Princess Pom-Pom (she didnt have a body or hands as well!), but she had a broad
smile on her face. And she was happily chatting away with her Cloud Birdy and Cloud Flowery friends.

Cloud Pom-Pom also had some unhappy Cloud Human friends, who didnt have hands or legs. To cheer
them up, she sought help from Cloud Woolly, her best friend who miracle of miracles! wasnt lazy
but jumped, played and even flew across the sky. How are you so happy all the time? How do you have
so many friends? Princess Pom-Pom asked Cloud Pom-Pom. Its easy. Im happy because I try to make
others happy. And I have so many friends because I go and talk to them first, she answered.

That makes perfect sense! exclaimed Princess Pom-Pom, looking up to thank Cloud Pom-Pom. But she
had vanished with her other Cloud friends, leaving the sky blue once again. However, she did see a
couple of boys nearby. Hi! My name is Pom-Pom, she told them. Of course, Princess! Who doesnt
know you? We always thought you didnt talk to us because were poor said the younger of the two
boys. What! No! Of course not Would you like to play Cloud-Cloud with me? asked Pom-Pom. And
when the boys nodded enthusiastically, she began explaining the game, with a broad smile on her face.
