Resume and Cover Letter or Personal Statement 100 points total The experience of writing your own resume and letter should empower you as you pursue employment. Having these two sheets of paper as you conclude Composition I puts you in the right position for seeking summer work, a job in your field, or an internship. Together, they often determine if you will get an interview, and so they are two of the most powerful pieces of writing you will do. Paying careful attention to crafting your ideas is critical as everything about this assignment must be precise, including grammar, mechanics, and spelling. The goal is for you to write a baseline resume and either a letter or statement that you can customize in the future to any job for which you are applying. Chapters 14 “Business Letters,” 15 “Résumés,” and 16 “Personal Statements” discuss each topic with examples. Also, Eric Brandt with LSC Career Services will be our guest speaker to talk about tips and techniques for a professional look and results using LSC resources! Your resume should include the following: 1. Basic contact information 2. Career objective 3. Educational attainments 4. Work experience 5. Other accomplishments (volunteering, scholarships, honors, merits, publications) Other categories may be added, too, depending on your field. The Letter/Statement also needs a polished look: 1. illuminate your experience).5.There are NO grammatical, mechanical, or spelling errors (because

even one error could cost you the interview).
