Respondus LockDown Browser for Canvas Online Quizzes
Introduction Respondus LockDown Browser (LDB) is a customized web browser that is capable of providing a contained environment for students to take online quizzes in Canvas.
A list of LDB's major feature is as follows.
• Restrict an online quiz to be done using LDB • Disallow students to switch to other applications besides LDB • Disable operating system hotkeys like
• Alt + Tab (Win) • Command + Tab (Mac) and • Windows Menu
• Block web links other that the ones that the online quiz linked to

Enabling LDB in Canvas Quizzes (This process can be applied while creating and modifying a Canvas Quiz.)
During the process of creating a Canvas Quiz, the ‘Quiz restrictions’ section, would have a set of functions which can control and enable LockDown Browser.
1. Select "Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam". The ‘Required to view quiz results’ can be deselected according to the instructor’s preference.
2. You can require students to enter an access code to take the quiz.
3. You can filter IP addresses and require students to take a quiz from a specific computer lab.
4. Hit Save once you have completed creating your quiz.

Installing LDB on Student LAN PC (for Students) (Please skip this section if LDB already installed)
On any student LAN connected computers, e.g. terminals in CSC
1. Click on the Work Desk icon on the desktop
2. CSC Work Desk will be opened in a web browser
3. Click on "Respondus Lockdown Browser" under Departmental Software

4. Wait until the automatic installation to complete
5. A LockDown Browser icon will appear if installation is success

Taking Canvas Quizzes with LDB (for Students) (Please refer to the previous section if LDB is not present)
1. Double click the LockDown Browser icon to launch the application
LDB will automatically visit CityU Canvas
2. Log in using CityU EID and password

3. Enter the course and start the online quiz
4. Complete the quiz

FAQ #1 - Student Not Using LDB If a student tries to access a LDB enabled online quiz using other web browsers, Canvas will block the quiz access.

FAQ #2 - Navigate to Other Pages through the Linked Page Students are only allowed to browse the web page that is linked in the online quiz.
Items on the linked page, e.g. 1) External links, 2) Search fields, etc. will be blocked (3) by LDB.
