Downloading and Installing “Respondus”

Step-by-step “Respondus” allows the transfer of assessments from Blackboard Vista to Blackboard Learn.

Also, assessments can be built in “Respondus” independently and then uploaded to Learn as well. This tutorial will demonstrate how to downloading and install “Respondus” here at Purdue

To get started, go to the url: http://itap.purdue.edu and click on the search field in the top right of the page. Type in the text “Respondus” and click the Search button.

The Search Results page appears. You should see the Learning Tools page for “Respondus” as the first result on the page. Click the “Respondus” link.

The Respondus tool page will appear. Click the Download Respondus link to progress forward

with downloading the software.

The Instructional Design and Tools page appears. Click the Respondus Installation File link to receive the .exe file. Also, click the Respondus License Renewal Information 2012-2013 link to view the PDF which helps register the software.

As shown below - If you haven’t logged into a Purdue service on the website, you may be requested to login using your Purdue Career Account after clicking on the Respondus Installation File link. To do this, click the Purdue Log In- For faculty, students and staff link on the Login page. Then, the Purdue Career Account page will appear and ask for your credentials.




After logging in, on the same login page, the “File Download” dialog box will appear. Click the

Save button, which may be different depending on the browser used. Lastly, pick a location on your computer to save the file.

Now, locate and open the installation file. For this tutorial, the Respondus4Campus4.05.02.exe file is used, though your version may be newer. The “InstallShield Wizard” will appear and ask for the language the user prefers to use when installing the program. Click Next once an option is selected.




Now the Wizard will prepare for setup. The welcome screen will appear, and then you can click

the Next button. Then, the license agreement screen will show, thus click the “I accept the terms of the license agreement” option and click Next.

Now, optionally you can change the program’s destination location by clicking the Change button. Click Next once finished, and another screen will appear that asks what the default “Projects Folder Location” needs to be. Click Next once more when finished.




Now the “Ready to Install the Program” screen appears. Click the Install button to begin the installation process.

Lastly, click Finish on the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen to complete the “Respondus” installation.
