TRON PARTICIPATION Resource created by Julie Brown for Tron Theatre Meet Dave – the Head of Production for the Tron Theatre and Laura, the Tron Theatre Stage Manager. Tell us about your route into the Tron Theatre… Dave – in a nutshell, I started as a theatre technician, progressed into Technical Stage Management and then moved into Production Management. These roles were all associated with touring theatre companies (such as 7:84 and Random Accomplice) before I moved to a venue. My title changed here from Production Manager to Head of Production to better show that within the building, as well as creating our own work with Tron Theatre Company, we host many events across the building over differing art forms. We also co-produce and create work in association with other companies. Laura – for me it was a less traditional route in that I didn’t study Technical & Production Arts. When I left school my goal was to attend Art School – when I didn’t secure a place I studied instead at Glasgow University on the Theatre, Film & TV Studies degree. At that time, the University had a theatre at Gilmorehill, ‘G12’. I was able to work on department productions and after deciding on a specialism of stage management from three choices including design or directing, I started to gain work placements after showing a real, genuine interest. This led to work with professional touring companies (such as Visible Fictions). My first job when graduating was with Bard in the Botanics, the annual Shakespeare Festival in the Botanic Gardens, Glasgow. I then worked at the Citizens Theatre as an Assistant Stage Manager and after several years freelancing, I came to the Tron as the Stage Manager. Can you relate your post to Tron Theatre productions and specifically, Brothers Karamazov… Laura I work on the productions produced by the Tron Theatre Company. However I also help look after visiting companies but my main role is on the in-house productions. I help facilitate the design of the shows.
