Cuban War of Independence

During the years of the “Rewarding Truce” after the Ten Years’ War, the Spanish took advantage of the end of captivity by bringing in US capital to control the sugar and tobacco markets. This oppressed the Cubans, rich and former captives alike because of the loss of jobs. Only the big companies and plantation owners thrived. Thus the dream of Cuban independence began.
