    (2) The water pipe shall be placed on a solid shelf

excavated at one (1) side of the common trench with

a clear horizontal distance of not less than twelve

    (12) inches from the sewer or drain line. Water

pipes crossing sewer or drainage piping constructed

of clay or materials that are not approved for use

within a building shall be laid not less than twelve

    (12) inches above the sewer or drain pipe.

Exception: When approved by the building official and where it is impractical, due to the depth of the street sewer or to the structural features or to the arrangement of any building or structure, to obtain a Slope of one-fourth (1/4) of an inch per foot, any such pipe or piping four (4) inches through six (6) inches shall be permitted to have a slope of not less than one-eighth (1/8) inch per foot and any such piping eight (8) inches and larger shall be permitted to have a slope of not less than one-sixteenth (1/16) of an inch per foot.
