29.10.2019 Job advertisement No. 50/2019 The Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology – Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) Program Area C, Research and Development, is looking to employ a Research Associate / PhD Candidate in Research Data Management (m/f/d) to work in the Leibniz Joint Lab Data Science and Open Knowledge of the TIB Research and Development department and the L3S Research Center under the supervision of Dr. Javad Chamanara and Prof. Dr. Sören Auer. The position is limited to 3 years with envisioned extension. The regular weekly working time is 29.85 hours (part-time, 75 %). The remuneration is based on pay scale group 13 TV-L. Your qualities The candidate’s competence area should be squarely rooted in computer science or related fields. The candidate should be able to think creatively, grasp new knowledge quickly, be able to combine abstract reasoning with concrete problem solving and be interested in mastering complex challenges. Successfully completed university degree (Master or comparable) in a relevant field like Computer Science, Mathematics or Information Science. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Proficiency in German is a plus. Excellent proficiency in modern programming languages (especially Python, Java and JavaScript) and modern software engineering methodologies. Proven team software development skills. Research and technology interest in Data Management, Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, Semantic Technologies and Web Engineering Interest in data management according to the FAIR principles, data integration, semantic integration and querying of data as well as a passion for mastering and applying formal methods through proven technologies. Your tasks The research and development focus of the PhD position is on innovative Research Data Management and Semantic Technologies. The PhD topic will be in the context of third-party funded projects in the area of research data management and the German National Research Data Infrastructure initiative (NFDI). The aim is to research and develop techniques for representing, integrating, managing semantically and analysing structured, rich representations of research data and scholarly contributions using ontologies and knowledge graphs. The candidate has the opportunity to choose his/her dissertation scope from the variety of research paths provided by the projects. The research department at the TIB is relatively young and offers many opportunities. Currently, there are five research groups in the department: Data Science and Digital Libraries, Scientific Data Management, Knowledge Infrastructures, Learning and Skills Analytics, and Visual Analytics. Common to all research groups is the vision to rethink the representation and provision of data and information and to organize them in an Open Research Knowledge Graph (ORKG) in the future.
