marketing. Then we sent to Mr. Shushanta kumar shaha (Operation Manager) to visit our

refining and blending plant and finally the packaging section. From this two weeks training

program we learned so many things that shortly described within short period of time.

About the Company

With the development of modern civilization the use of transport, machinery & equipments has

become an inseparable part of our day to day life. It is unthinkable to consider a modern machine

without use of some sort of Lubricants or Lubrication. It would not therefore, be an exaggerationto say that the wheels of civilization moves on Lubricants.

Unfortunately in our country, price of lubricants come first to the customer as the big volume of

the market is for low claim (API SC/CC) only-an obsolete product. Whereas price is directly

related to its performance meeting current SAE, API, EURO, JASO standards, emission control, energy conservancy etc. that’s been mostly followed in modern world. The improved efficiency

wanted by modern machinery due to fast development of science and technology & transports

worthy of meeting high shock, load & speed has been transformed to fuel economy, environment& comfort. Therefore we need improved quality lubricants to perform under much more severe

operating conditions.

Up to Eighties, most of the lubricating oils were marketed by the National Oil Companies under

Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), either by blending in age old local plants or importing from abroad under Multinational Brands against royalty. Unfortunately during this

long period, the transfer of technology did not take place which was the primary objective of any

brand support. With the opening of the market, number of National & Multinational Companiesstarted operation in this once most price sensitive market.

The transport growth rate of our country is increasing @ 12% annually while industrial growth is

also increasing simultaneously. As a result this strategic sector has also been experiencing a

tremendous growth potential. Therefore the chance for setting up of a technically sound

lubricating blending plant has become necessary as most of the age old plants were unable to

produce or blend lubricants of latest API claims.

As such, the sponsors of the company has taken a laudable initiative and a noble venture to set

up a blending plant with all modern facilities like full pledged quality control laboratory of itsown from most developed countries. The company has started blending products by importing

Base Oils & Additives from authentic sources under the supervision of qualified formulators &

 plant level supervisors.

Initially the project has started producing most of the Engine Oil series, Gear Lubricants &Hydraulic Oils conforming to latest claims like API SL/CF, API CF-4, MB229.1, ACEA A3-02,

VW 505.00, U.S. Steel 224, DIN 51517 Part 3, API GL-4, Denison HF-0, DIN 51524 Part-II,

Vickers 35VQ, AFNOR NF E 48-603 etc. and the project also envisages further expansion, producing the specialty products in near future with foreign technical assistance.

With so many years of track experience and product knowledge & as a result of vast exposures

both inside & out side the country, the management has decided to introduce a strong local brandunder the banner of BNO but maintaining international standards. Most of the products are

compatible to any imported brands marketed by other major competitors.

As a motto, the company has set up standard in excess of the limits given by Bangladesh

Petroleum Corporation in order to cater the needs of the large number of customer in the downline areas to impart maximum benefit to this long neglected market segment giving maximum &

direct benefit to the customer.

For each & every product we have developed a product data sheet conforming to international

standard specifications. The product data sheet provides information for product description,

application and benefits of use and typical characteristics & special features. Typicalcharacteristics are average values. Minor variations which do not affect product performance

may be observed during manufacturing.

Our major targeted group includes Automotive, Cement, Textile, Steel, Petrochemical,Pharmaceutical, the Agriculture sector, Engineering companies, Fleet owner, among others. The

product data sheet also contains information on BNO products with their designated performance

levels. We sincerely hope that our valued Dealers, Retailers, Marketing Personnel & largenumber of users will find this Product Data Sheet to be very informative & useful.

The Health and Safety of people who handle BNO Products are of vital interest and concern to

us. Most products are regarded generally safe & environmental friendly; however werecommend that people who handle and use BNO products follow good personal hygiene practices and avoid prolonged and repeated skin contact.

In order to continually respond to the challenging needs for high performance products in the

marketplace, BNO reserves the right to change product formulation without notice.

About Lubricants

Control of friction and wear by the introduction of a friction reducing film between movingsurfaces in contact. The film may fluid; solid or plastic species that carry out lubrication are

termed as lubricants.

Lubricants are basically classified in following three broad categories:

1. Lubricating oil.

2. Greases.3. Solid lubricants

Lubricating oils are the most widely used lubricants. This also includes hydraulic oils, various

other special purpose oils and metal working oils.Greases are semi-solid lubricants and have been developed for use when fluid oil would run of

lubricating zone.

Solid lubricants have been developed for high temperature applications or for high lateral

pressure etc. Graphite and molybdenum disulphide are the two main solid lubricants.

Classification of lubricants:

1. Automotive lubricants.2. Industrial lubricants.

3. Marine lubricants.

4. Aviation lubricants.

5. Greases.

• Synthetic grease

• Multipurpose grease

Properties of lubricants:

Viscosity:

Viscosity is a measure of the resistance of a fluid which is being deformed by either shear stress

or extensional stress. In general term viscosity is the resistance of liquid to flow. It is measure of  physical ability of a fluid to maintain lubrication under specified condition of operating speed,

temperature and pressure. Viscosity of a liquid would determine/affect the following.

• Friction loss.

• Heat generation.

• Fluid film thickness.

• Fluid flow.

• Mechanical efficiency.

Page 5: Reprot on Training

5/11/2018 Reprot on Training - slidepdf.com

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/reprot-on-training 5/36

• Load carrying capacity.

• Wear etc.

The viscosity of oil is very temperature dependent and precise control of temperature is

mandatory when measuring viscosity.

Viscosity index (VI):

Viscosity index is a means of expressing the lubricant’s variation in viscosity with respect to

temperature. In general, this means the viscosity increases with cold and decreases with heat.

The viscosity index is an empirical unit less number indicating the effect of temperature change

on the viscosity of oil. The VI of oil is determined by comparing it with two standards oil thathas arbitrary VI of 0 and 100. The higher of the VI of oil the less change it has with temperature.

#Color:

That is color does not generally affect lube oil performance. There are, of course, exceptions to

this rather broad statement.

In some instance, light color has been associated with higher property, but that is misconception.

Pour point:

The pour point of oil is the lowest temperature at which the oil pours or flows, when it is chilled,

without disturbance or agitation. As an oil is cooled, the wax content begins to separate out from

solution and crystallize to from a rigid network by crystals interlocking, which traps small pockets of oil. When this crystal growth becomes extensive and strong, the oil is not able to flow.

Paraffin oils, even through they have been dew axed are still waxy in behavior at low

temperature due to their long straight side chains.

Napthenic oils made from wax free crude’s exhibit only viscous pour and extremely low pour  points are possible.

Generally, while selecting the lubricating oil or motor oils, it is ensured that the pour point of theoils is lower than the minimum ambient temperature at the place of application.

Flash points and Fire points:

The flash point is the temperature at which a flame will first ignite the vapors above oil. However, generation and concentration of vapor at this temperature is not enough to sustain the

combustion and the flame dies out.

Page 6: Reprot on Training

5/11/2018 Reprot on Training - slidepdf.com

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/reprot-on-training 6/36

When the oil is heated further, more and more vapor come out but the flame does not sustain, till

a temperature is reached when the release of continuous flame. The temperature of oil at which

this happens is known as “fire point” of the oil.

The “flash point” and “fire point” are important parameter for petroleum products for safetyreasons. Low flash point oils are generally more volatile oils and if used in applications

involving high temperature operation, higher oil consumption rates may occur.

Flash point may be checked in open apparatus and closed apparatus. Flash point (open) is

generally higher than flash point (closed) by approximately 11 to 170C. Flash point is importantfor safety reasons, as too low a flash point can cause fire problem.

Total base number (TNB):

TNB determines the level of alkalinity in an oil sample by measuring the change in electrical

conductivity during titration with perchloric acid. The results are expressed in mg KOH/gm.

Engine oils and other oils are formulated with a variety of additives to enhance lubricity, retard

oxidation, reduced tendency for sludge formation and to improve viscosity characteristics etc.

Dispersency / detergency:

The lubricants in internal combustion engines get fouled by the oil insoluble products of fuel

combustion are the form of carbon and oxidation products. These products are carried away by

lubricating oil, in the form of relatively coarse conglomerates of soot, water and oxidation products. Detergency / dispersancy are the properties of oil which prevent these sludge and

lacquers etc. from accumulating and aggregating and keep these suspension of small particles inoil and thus prevent them from depositing on metal surface. The engine is thus kept clean and

functions efficiently even through the oil may look dark and fine suspended particles.

ISO 9001:2000As someone who is involved in the selection of suppliers, and possibly

responsible for purchasing decisions, you may have seen or used goods and

services that are promoted using reference to ISO 9001:2000, or, more simply“ISO 9000”. What does this mean? How can this help you? How can you be sure

that your suppliers understand what you expect from them, and are capable of

providing you with a consistent, conforming product? This information brochure

provides some answers to these questions, and will inform you about how you can

get the most out of using ISO 9001:2000 as a supply chain tool.

What is ISO 9001:2000?

ISO 9001:2000 is an international standard that gives requirements for an

organization’s Quality Management System (“QMS”). It is part of a family of standards published by the International Organisation for Standardisation (“ISO”)

often referred to collectively as the “ISO 9000 series”. For this reason, you may

sometimes hear your suppliers refer to being “ISO 9000 certified”, or having an

“ISO 9000-compliant QMS”. This will normally mean that they are claiming to

have a QMS meeting the requirements of ISO 9001:2000, the only standard in the

ISO 9000 family that can be used for the purpose of conformity assessment. It is

important to understand however, that ISO is the body that develops and

publishes the standard - ISO does not “certify” organizations, as will be explained

later in this brochure.

The objective of ISO 9001:2000 is to provide a set of requirements that, if they

are effectively implemented, will provide you with confidence that your supplier

can consistently provide goods and services that:

Meet your needs and expectations and

Comply with applicable regulations

The requirements cover a wide range of topics, including your supplier's top

management commitment to quality, its customer focus, adequacy of its

resources, employee competence, process management (for production, service

delivery and relevant administrative and support processes), quality planning,

product design, review of incoming orders, purchasing, monitoring and

measurement of its processes and products, calibration of measuring equipment,

processes to resolve customer complaints, corrective/preventive actions and a

requirement to drive continual improvement of the QMS. Last but not least, there

Page 24: Reprot on Training

5/11/2018 Reprot on Training - slidepdf.com

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/reprot-on-training 24/36

is a requirement for your supplier to monitor customer perceptions about the

quality of the goods and services it provides.

ISO 9001:2000 does not specify requirements for the goods or services you are

purchasing. That is up to you to define, by making clear your own needs andexpectations for the product. You might, for example, refer to product

specifications, drawings, national or international product standards, supplier’s

catalogues or other documents as appropriate.

What does “Conformity to ISO 9001:2000” mean?

This means that your supplier has established a systematic approach to quality

management, and is managing its business to ensure that your needs are clearly

understood, agreed and fulfilled. A statement of conformity to ISO

9001:2000:2000 should not, however, be considered as a substitute for adeclaration or statement of product conformity.

How does ISO 9001:2000 help you in selecting a supplier?

ISO 9001:2000 provides some requirements for the purchasing process that

include you as the customer. These requirements address the following topics:

requirements regarding the purchasing information that should be provided so

that suppliers clearly understand their customers' needs

the ways in which supplied products can be verified as meeting the

requirements of the customer

Note that whenever ISO 9001:2000 refers to “products”, this also includes

intangible products like services, or software.

You have an important role to play, by specifying to your supplier what you

actually want. You may need to consult with your own internal technical staff (the

actual users) in this process. If you don’t do this, you might find that you receive a

product that meets all your stated requirements and the applicable regulatory

requirements, but which is absolutely wrong for your intended application. So,

first of all, you should concentrate on specifying your needs related to the

intended use of the product.

To help in this task you may consider the following:

Page 25: Reprot on Training

5/11/2018 Reprot on Training - slidepdf.com

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/reprot-on-training 25/36

What is the specific product (goods or service) you are buying?

What impact does this product have on your own business?

What are the risks to your business if you experience problems with this

 product?

How can you be sure that the product you receive will actually meet your

requirements?

What do you know about the reputation and historical performance of

your supplier?

What level of confidence do you need in your supplier’s ability to

provide you with conforming product on a consistent basis?

If you decide that conformity to ISO 9001:2000 is important, (based on

your assessment of the risks associated with the goods and services you are

buying) how can you be sure that your supplier does have a QMS that meets

ISO 9001:2000 requirements? Are the goods and services you require covered by your supplier’s

QMS? (You may need to ask for a copy of your supplier’s actual certificate or

declaration of conformity to find this out!)

How can you have confidence that your supplier meets ISO 9001:2000?

There are various ways in which your supplier can claim that its QMS meets the

requirements of ISO 9001:2000. These include:

‘Supplier’s declaration of conformity’: A declaration by your supplier itself

affirming that its QMS meets ISO 9001:2000 requirements, usually supported by

legally-binding signatures. This declaration can be based on your supplier’s

internal audit system, or on second party or third party audits;

Second party assessment: your supplier has been assessed directly by its

customer (for example by you, or by another customer, whose reputation you

respect) to check if its QMS meets ISO 9001:2000 requirements and your own

requirements - sometimes used in contractual “business-to-business”

transactions;

Third party assessment: (Often referred to as certification or registration):

your supplier hires an impartial third party (a certification body, or “registrar”)to conduct an assessment to verify conformity to ISO 9001:2000 requirements.

This third party then issues a certificate to your supplier describing the scope of

its QMS, and confirming that it conforms to ISO 9001:2000.

Additional confidence may be derived from the fact that some certification

bodies (“registrars”) are accredited by nationally or internationally recognized

accreditation bodies, who verify the certification body’s independence and

competence to carry out the certification process. Many accreditation bodies

Page 26: Reprot on Training

5/11/2018 Reprot on Training - slidepdf.com

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/reprot-on-training 26/36

have multi-lateral arrangements under the umbrella of the IAF (International

Accreditation Forum) to promote worldwide mutual recognitions in support of

WTO (World Trade Organization) free trade principles.

Figure 1 explains this in simple schematic terms.

Figure 1 – Some ways of demonstrating conformity to ISO 9001:2000

Can suppliers claim that their goods or services meet ISO 9001:2000?

No. The reference to ISO 9001:2000 indicates that the supplier has a quality

management system that meets the requirements of ISO 9001:2000. As mentioned

earlier, this should provide you with confidence in your supplier’s ability to

provide consistent, conforming goods or services. ISO 9001:2000 requires your

supplier to monitor the levels of satisfaction of its customers (this includes you!),

Page 27: Reprot on Training

5/11/2018 Reprot on Training - slidepdf.com

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/reprot-on-training 27/36

and to feed back this information in order to improve the effectiveness of its

QMS.

What to do if things go wrong?

In the event you are not happy with specific goods or services you receive, you

should first of all bring this to your supplier’s attention. You will typically do this

via the normal technical and/or commercial communication channels that have

been established. Your supplier is obliged to investigate your complaint, and

should take appropriate actions to avoid or reduce the chances of it happening

again.

If, however, you are dissatisfied with the overall performance of your supplier,(for example if they continue to provide non-conforming products, do not address

your complaints, or are not taking appropriate corrective actions) then this is an

indication of problems in their quality management system. Depending on the

responses you receive, you should be aware that you can escalate your complaint

as follows:

If your supplier has a QMS that meets ISO 9001:2000 requirements, they are

required to have nominated a person (the “management representative”) to have

the responsibility and authority to ensure the system is working properly. You

should find out who this is, and make a formal complaint. If you are still not satisfied with the response from your supplier, and if they are

certified by an independent (third party) certification body (“registrar”), you

should bring the matter to the certification body’s attention. You can find the

certification body’s name by looking at your supplier’s certificate. The

certification body will investigate the problems during their surveillance audits

of your supplier’s QMS, or, in critical cases, may decide to carry out an

additional specific investigation.

If you do not receive a satisfactory response from the certification body, and if

it is accredited (see Figure 1), you should complain to the relevant accreditation

body. Details of any such accreditation will appear on your supplier’s ISO9001:2000 certificates. If you have difficulty in getting this information, you can

consult the list of accreditation bodies who are members of the International

Accreditation Forum on the IAF website (http://www.iaf.nu).

If you feel that you have not received a satisfactory response from the

accreditation body, and if it is a member of the International Accreditation

Forum (see Figure 1), you can complain to the IAF (http://www.iaf.nu).

Page 28: Reprot on Training

5/11/2018 Reprot on Training - slidepdf.com

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/reprot-on-training 28/36

Remember that none of the above will affect your statutory rights as a purchaser,

and it may be appropriate to take legal action against your supplier instead of, or

in parallel with the above channels. The way in which you do this may vary from

one country to another.

To summarize…..

ISO 9001:2000 is a useful basis for organizations to be able to demonstrate that

they are managing their business so as to achieve consistent (good!) quality goods

and services.

There are several ways in which your suppliers can claim conformity to ISO

9001:2000, and you need to ensure that the method chosen by your supplier

provides you with the necessary degree of confidence.

If you are not satisfied with the performance of your supplier, you must provide

them with the appropriate feedback. Learning from complaints helps

organizations to improve their future performance – that is what ISO 9001:2000 is

about.

Some additional helpful information about ISO and the ISO 9000 family of

standards can be obtained from www.iso.org, or by consulting your national

standards body.

Recommendation

We have been trained up about two weeks. Within short period of times we are not ableto comments exactly. For our point of view we found following limitations of this

company.

To build up a better HR policy.

To give more concentration on promotion activities to build up brand image.

Conclusion

Both of us joined in this company as a Marketing executive. Since we are new in this

track, company provides us a training to understand about lubricants and its marketing. It’s a great thinking of our honorable Managing Director; we find a proper guideline from

General Manager and extreme cooperation from entire employee. We enjoyed it so much

and learned so many things that will be helpful for the further advancement.
