Billy Ray Cyrus

How is he represented as an artist in his hit single, ‘change my mind’?

I think that Billy Ray Cyrus has been represented as a traditional artist in the country-pop genre of

music. Although he has tattoo’s which doesn’t fit in with the ‘godly’ connotations of country music;

these shots from the music video portray him to be a traditional male in this in this genre.

Traditional Modern

-Cowboy hat (typical male accessory)-Sunglasses (not showing emotions)-Desert background (fitting to genre)

-Tattoos (not seen on many country pop artists, ‘bad boy’ connotations

Shania Twain

How is she represented as an artist in her hit single, ‘man I feel like a women’?

Traditional Modern

-Red lipstick (feminine)-Heavy eye makeup-Cleavage showing-Face covered with netting to seem mysterious

-Men wearing makeup-Men standing behind the female (she is the main focus)-Female wearing a male accessory (top hat could show a form of defence)

I think that Shania Twain has been represented in this music video as a modern female artist with in

the country-pop genre. Although she is still appealing to the male gaze by being ‘sexy’ I do think

that with the male band behind her and the male accessories she looks like a strong female figure .
