Campus, Durgapur on Monday, 06th November 2016 comprising 35 nos. of
ECE students (both 2nd
. and 3rd
yr.) and 3 faculties. Kolaghat Thermal Power
Station involves a total installed capacity of 1260 MW. There are Bakreshwar
Thermal Power Plant having capacity of 1050MW, & Sagardighi Thermal
Power Project having capacity of 600MW, Bandel Thermal Power Plant and
Santaldihi Thermal Power Plant undertaken by WBP DCL.
On 6th
November 2017 early in the morning at 5 am faculties reached at
college campus and students reported at 5.20am. Then at 5.30 am we started
journey by bus and we reached Shaktigarh halt stoppage at 7 am where
students’ took their breakfast and then again bus started at 7.30am. At 10.15 am
we reached at KTPS Thermal Power Plant. After completed some formalities
and submitting official documents in the Admin Block we entered inside the
power plant which is subdivided into two section one is generation section from
where power is generated and another one distribution section from where
power is distributed. We first visited the mechanical operation/thermal power
generation/GM Building in the 1st. session which was from 11am to 1.30pm.
and interacted with the Technical coordinator persons. The Technical
coordinator divided our students into two subgroups of 2nd
year and 3rd
year
along with event coordinator Mr. Saptarshi Hazra and Mr. Sanjeev Chakraborty.
The Technical coordinators of KTPS conducted very informative session for the
students and also he explained the function of each section/system from where
power is generated. He also guided the students and showed all the section and
the importance in the current work of KTPS. Finally the session was concluded
with question-answer/doubt/query clearance session. Many of the students
asked different questions to the Technical Head on current demanding
technologies, market scenarios etc. and he cleared all the doubts and myths
which were in students mind about the power plant.
After completed the 1st session we went for the lunch at 2:00 p.m. to
Hotel Park Point in Mecheda and then again we returned back and started 2nd
session which was from 3pm. to 5pm. at ECR (Electrical Control Room) block
of KTPS. In ECR block there is a control room from where generated power is
controlled. The technical coordinator again explained how to power is
distributed and transmitted to all over west Bengal and other area in India.
After that theoretical session they took students in the field area to show the
transmission line area from where power is transmitted through Feeder. The
technical coordinator explained everything and again there is a question- answer
session. The students were satisfied after the session. The visit came to an end at
5.30 p.m. Finally, we left the KTPS premises at 5.30 p.m. It was an informative,
interesting and a successful visit. As students of ECE, they understand a live
importance of a power plant like KTPS we express our thanks and gratitude to
the Technical Head, General Manager and all team members of KTPS who
spent their valuable time for us directly and indirectly. We also thank to our
respected Director and HOD who motivate us to arrange such an informative
program. Lately we request you to arrange more industrial visit in the future for
the students which will be beneficial for the students to train them towards
Core/Technical/Industry sector.
