SPECIAL AREAS

TECH2PLAY ACTIVITY AREA

For the first time, the Spielwarenmesse® brought together innovations and highlights from the tech toy arena in the newly created, compact Tech2Play activity area in Hall 4A. Over some 400 m2, manufacturers showcased more than 45 products, divided into the five categories of Robot Toys, Electronic Pets, RC Drones, Virtual Play and 3D Printing.

Dedicated islands in the modern-style area were used to stage each category. Being an “activity area”, getting involved was key. Visitors could test RC drones in the flight cage or have various products battle it out on the robot racing course.

“We were delighted with how easy it was to

encourage buyers to try out the products there

and then.”

BABY AND INFANT ARTICLES SPECIAL AREA

Products for the very small made a big splash at the 68th Spielwarenmesse®. The comprehensive offering in the Baby and Infant Articles product group was reflected in the special area of the same name between Halls 2 and 3.

Visitors to the special area got a quick overview of the variety of products for the very young represented throughout the exhibition grounds across these six zones:

• Baby Toys

• Baby Textile

• Travel Systems

• Food & Care

• Home & Safety

• Licence Articles

With its foresighted approach to this special area, the Spielwarenmesse® is recognising the rising demand for this attractive additional range.

TOYAWARDThe gold medal for toys

The Spielwarenmesse® is a platform for around 100,000 inno-vations among more than one million products each year. This can pose a particular challenge for retailers and buyers looking for innovations and new business opportunities. Through the TrendGallery, the Spielwarenmesse provides a good overview over some 1,000 m2, combining expertise, innovations and industry trends in one location. To identify these trends, the ten-member TrendCommittee of the Spielwarenmesse® went looking all over the world and came across three big trends.

For more information and a virtual tour of the TrendGallery, go www.spielwarenmesse.de/trendgallery

The winners of the ToyAward 2017

Exhibitor

The ToyAwards recognising particularly innovative product ideas in four categories for specific age groups were awarded during the official opening ceremony. This was the 14th year of the ToyAward, considered one of the most prestigious awards in the toy industry. An 11-member jury selected from the 635 products submitted this year. Criteria such as play fun, originality, safety, workmanship and quality, as well as the prospect of retail success, played a key role in the selection process.

Body and Mind – achieving an equilibrium

Children’s days are often packed with school and leisure activities. Stress is the order of the day. The Body and Mind trend is concerned with promoting an equilibrium. Products which help children achieve physical and mental relaxation through play, leading with fitness and exercise to good balance in their everyday lives, are to the fore.

Girl Power – fostering girls’ interests

Girls should be strong, confident and independent in how they pursue their interests and goals. More and more toys help them believe in their dreams. They give the girls the “tools” they need to test themselves, paving the way for their dream career.

Swap & Collect – rediscover the fun of collecting

Collecting is a hobby that appeals to both the young and old. Swapping is a closely related aspect. It fosters social skills. After all, you need to negotiate well to complete a collection when something is missing. Collecting and swapping bring joy over a long period of time and there are always new surprises. Licences provide additional incentives for this classic pastime.

INNOVATION MADE IN GERMANYThe Spielwarenmesse® and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) again helped young innovative German companies participate in the trade fair. 25 young German companies showcased their original product ideas – from mobile robots and traditional wooden toys through to designer products – to buyers over 240 m2 in Hall 3A, tapping into potential international business.
