Our Staff PreceptorshipWithin RRCV we offer an organised programme of study days and supported assessments led by our Education and Practice Development specialist nurses. Of course there is also always the 1:1 support system from a nominated senior member of qualified staff (preceptor) to make the transition to qualifying as a staff nurse as smooth as possible. Nursing Team PhilosophyWe have a wide range of specialist nurse positions and RRCV actively encourages positive staff advancement by focusing on speciality specific education and development. We are also implementing new roles such as Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Associate Nurses. We treat our staff how we would like to be treated and have an established reputation for being a friendly, supportive team.

Listening into Action (LiA)Our Chief Executive John Adler, has introduced the LiA approach – this gives all staff the opportunity to put forward ideas and take action to improve the services they provide to our patients or make improvements for staff benefit. The trust has continued to develop this approach and this has led to the Nursing into Action (NiA) approach, which is an initiative to improve ward leadership and teamwork. As a trust we are always looking to develop innovative ways of

working and nursing teams are at the forefront of this. International Nurse RecruitmentAs part of our wide campaign we have recruited a number of nurses from Spain, Portugal, Italy, India and the Philippine Islands, who have embraced the opportunities offered in Leicester. Their enthusiasm is infectious and they have positively contributed to the nursing culture as well as patient care within UHL. We have attracted many international nurses to date and to support more in the future our education team run a successful NMC OSCE preparation programme from the UHL academy which is based at Glenfield Hospital. Return to Practice As part of a group led by Health Education East Midlands we are now offering a re- turn to practice contract which supports nurses who have left the NMC register to work as a Health Care Assistant and gain experience in their chosen area whilst completing their RTP course, after which they are automatically transferred to a Nurse post.
