I would like to alert parents to pay particular attention to suspected hearing loss, issues with eye sight and speech difficulties. Our Annual School Report is complete for 2013. The ASR can be found on the school website or you can request a copy from the office. What a sense of achievement I felt flipping through the final report. Margaret Turner our Director sent a heartfelt comment when she read it – “an outstanding effort by you, staff and parents. I would like to alert parents to pay particular attention to suspected hearing loss, issues with eye sight and speech difficulties. Year Two Sleepover

Changes to Soccer and League Balls in the Playground

We do not want students bringing their own soccer or league balls to school as they are causing arguments and accidents in the playground. We will supply balls for students to play with on a daily basis. Students can still bring their own hand balls.

A Snippet of the Happenings in Year 4.

A major focus in the classroom this year has been, and will be on comprehension. The ability to think about, understand, take information and form an opinion on what is read is very important. We have begun the ‘Making Connections’ program this term and will continue it throughout the year. This program was very successful in year 4 last year. There are numerous reading skills and strategies to learn such as: sequencing, finding the main idea, how to compare and contrast information, sort out fact from opinion and identify cause and effect. Also, most of the texts have a moral in the story to discuss and apply to real life situations. Barry Luckman Oakdale Public School Sporting News Cricket Gala Day The year’s first Gala Day is being held on Friday 4th April (Week 10) at Tahmoor Sports Ground. It is primarily a cricket skills day for inexperienced students in Years 5 & 6 who have not had an opportunity to attend previously. There is a development program in the morning with some games in the afternoon. The organisation and the running of the day will be through Cricket NSW. Mrs Fuller will be supervising the day. Notes will be handed out shortly. Sporting Representation There have been numerous trials for Razorback and Sydney South West selection throughout the first term. Trials in basketball, soccer, touch football, tennis and rugby league have been conducted with hockey, netball, softball and rugby union still to come. Emmitt Carlile continues to impress in the sporting arena with selection in the Razorback 11s Rugby League side, continuing a fine tradition for Oakdale students

over the past few years. Emmitt will have a busy end of term coming up with the Regional Swimming Championships being held today. Good luck Emmitt! A special mention goes to James Roberts for his efforts at the Sydney South West tennis trials at Campbelltown recently. James made it through to the final cut, missing out by one spot from making the team of 5. This is a brilliant effort from James as he is only in Year 5, so it augurs well for next year. Congratulations to all those students who have tried out for zone teams so far this year. You have represented your school with pride. Cross Country Carnival Just when the swimming season is winding up the school’s Cross Country Carnival is creeping over the horizon. The carnival is due to be held on Tuesday 8th April (Week 11 – last week of term), with back up days the following 2 days. As usual the carnival will be held at Willis Park. Mr Luckman is organising the carnival and permission notes will be sent home shortly. Please see Mr Luckman if you can help on the day. Active After School Communities Program The Australian Sports Commission and the Active After-school Communities program (we’re holding it during school) is in full swing for Years 3-6, with everyone having a great time. This term Martial Arts are being taught, with Sensei Luckman running the Years 3 & 4 program and an outside coach conducting the Years 5 & 6 program. The children have certainly enjoyed something a little different for sport this term. At the end of the session, all the children receive a healthy snack as part of the program. The AASC program aims to provide primary school children with a positive and fun atmosphere, which motivates them to be active for life and is run free of charge. Mr Barr
