This new 15,000 square foot c lassroom bui lding accommodates a s taf f of 24 and up to 110 students part ic ipat ing in the Nexus Treatment Program. The school is a t ransi t ional ski l ls t raining center for t roubled adolescent males.

The electr ical design included a new f i re alarm system, and other secur i ty features including magnet ic door locks, and video survei l lance cameras. To help reduce false f i re alarms, an except ion for bui ldings spr inklered per NFPA 13 was ut i l ized to avoid placing pul l s tat ions at bui lding exi ts .

This project included the construct ion of a new elementary school for the Cl inton School Dis tr ic t . E lectr ical design included power, l ight ing, and electr ical sys tems design including a f i re alarm system, and Area of Rescue system. The new school includes one elevator wi th the necessary interconnect ions to the f i re alarm system.

This project includes addi t ions and renovat ions to both Eisenhower High School and MacArthur High School in Decatur, IL. E isenhower High School was completed in January 2013, and MacArthur High School is under construct ion. As part of this project , new f i re alarm systems wi l l be instal led in both schools.

The new f i re alarm systems include visual and audio annunciat ion in al l publ ic areas. They include f i re safety funct ions for new and exis t ing elevators. Both schools include cafeter ias, and the f i re alarm systems integrate the ki tchen hood f i re suppression system, along wi th automatic shutoff for appl iances and natural gas connect ions during a ki tchen f i re.

The f i re alarm systems also integrate tamper and f low swi tches from new bui lding wide spr inkler sys tems.

COUNTRYSIDE SCHOOLChampaign, I l l inois

Countrys ide is a 24,000 sf e lementary school faci l i ty located in a rural res ident ial area of Champaign.

The s iding and roof forms relate the school to i t ’s res ident ial surround-ings. The l inear plan provides for proposed future addi t ions to the faci l i ty .

The school includes unique f lex ible c lassrooms wi th volume cel ings and “lof t” mezzanines. A mult i -purpose gymnasium and admin-is trat ive and support faci l i t ies are also included.

FIRST SCHOOLManhattan, I l l inois

This project is a new elementary school wi th c lassrooms and faci l i t ies to support Preschool – 3rd Grade. The faci l i ty was designed to funct ion l ike a Daycare faci l i ty , wi th age groups segregated into var ious zones for ease of control and supervis ion.

Each classroom was designed wi th their own restroom faci l i t ies to help isolate, moni tor, and control the var i-ous ages at al l t imes.

We are also current ly working wi th the next family gen-erat ion to design a s imi lar daycare faci l i ty in Manhattan, I l l inois. Both faci l i t ies are bui l t as a one s tory wood and br ick veneered structure.

The Mahomet faci l i ty ’s s i te is mainly a res ident ial area, whi le the Manhattan faci l i ty is s i ted in an urban neigh-borhood wi th mixed resident ial and retai l/serv ices usage.

HOLY CROSS SCHOOLChampaign, I l l inois

This project consis ted of a new 3-story addi t ion to the exis t ing Holy Cross School. The project also included remodel ing of the exis t ing school, total window replacement, and tuck-point-ing of the exis t ing masonry veneers. The addi t ion included a new entry, s tairway, elevator, and 5 c lassrooms plus a Media Center.

The exter ior of the addi t ion ut i l izes matching face br ick and windows to blend wi th the exis t ing school.

HOPE ACADEMYDecatur, I l l inois

Hope Academy is a K-8 school that encompasses 116,800 square feet providing for occupancy of up to 500 students.

BLDD designed the school. Archi tectural Express ions was the MEP consul tant and spr inkler consul tant for the project .

P lumbing design included toi le t rooms, locker rooms, sc ience labs and a ful l serv ice ki tchen. HVAC design included variable f low chi l led water and hot water sys-tems. The hot water boi lers are 95% high ef f ic iency gas uni ts . Vent i lat ion is accomplished through several var i-able f low air handlers. Painted exposed spiral ductwork was used in many locat ions.

The electr ical design included an emergency generator, e levators, k i tchen, and computer room. L ight ing design included indirect l ight ing in the c lassrooms, pendants in exposed structure locat ions and s i te l ight ing. Other electr ical design systems included f i re alarm, phone/data, secur i ty , intercom and controls.

NEXT GENERATION SCHOOLGaller ia Off ice ParkChampaign, I l l inois

A newly constructed two-story 39,000 sf school faci l i ty for grades 3-8, this faci l i ty and the exis t-ing adjacent 7,500 sf K-2 school bui lding completes a “campus” for elementary and middle school educat ion.

The new school included 16 large c lassrooms and two special ty c lassrooms as wel l as a gymnasi-um with even seat ing, commercial k i tchen, and adminis trat ive and support faci l i t ies.

The bui lding is maximized wi th the rear of the bui lding backing up to an exis t ing pond which is edged wi th a retaining wal l and pat io. Dramatic colors br ighten the corr idors whi le more subdued accent wal ls create focus in the c lassrooms.

NEXT GENERATION DAYCAREChampaign, I l l inois

Since s tar t ing a daycare wi thin her home many years ago, Barb Sul l ivan has planned and bui l t a chi ldren’s daycare and addi t ion, as wel l as, a 7500 sf . K-12 school and a 39,000 sf . school faci l i ty for grades 3-8 which is part of one campus. Within this project , we are focused speci f ical ly on the chi ldren’s daycare addi t ion. This ad-di t ion doubles the area of the exis t ing daycare.

The addi t ion is connected by an internal l ink that pro-vides horizontal f i re separat ion and a f i re rated access between the two structures. The addi t ion provides c lass-rooms, conference areas, and a mult i use space. Exter ior access has been developed for bathrooms to the exter ior play grounds. The s i te is l imi ted and urban in nature. Considerat ion was given to pedestr ian, chi ld, and ve-hicular movement on s i te based upon the high volume arter ial s t reet (Windsor Road) and commercial develop-ment adjacent to the s i te.

ST. ANTHONY SCHOOLEff ingham, I l l inois

This two story addi t ion to and ex-is t ing grade school in Ef f ingham, I l l inois provided over ten new classrooms, a new l ibrary, a new music room and performance area, and a new adminis trat ive wing.

The addi t ion juxtaposes c lass i-cal forms wi th modern l ines to f i t wi th the exis t ing remaining school bui lding and church on the school “campus” and st i l l have a modern s ty le.

The new faci l i ty is f looded wi th natural l ight. The c lassrooms are equipped wi th cei l ing mounted projectors and wireless internet.
