Dear Parents,
As we head into the home straight for 2017, I find school to be an interesting mix of
completion of goals and directions set for 2017 and planning for 2018. It’s a time that we can
reflect and review our processes, our successes, our learnings and how we have grown both
personally and collectively as a sch1ool. It is also a timely reminder for us all to care for our
kids as they face change of the familiar to the unknown of next year. It’s a reminder for
parents and teachers to build in care for ourselves as we become tired and have our buttons
pushed (whether that be for a work deadline, a parental demand from our children or a
relationship challenge…) It’s also a reminder for us all to continue to come from a place of
abundance and gratitude for what we each have in our lives – the people, the opportunity
the resources and to continue to create our reality based in a positive perception rather than
lack.
Staffing Update: We are coming close to finalising staff for 2018. We wish the following staff
many blessings and thanks as they take up positions in other schools next year: Mr Paul
Rees, Mrs Joanna Lomas and Ms Kate Doohan. We will be welcoming back Mrs Carissa
Hobbs (Job share arrangement Term 2) Mrs Rae McGuire (Sem 2). We welcome Mrs Carol
Lombard, a highly experienced teacher to our school from the beginning of the year. Once
the final staff members have been appointed we will let the community know class teachers
for 2018. Students will take part in a transition session in the last week of school to get to
know their teacher.

Well Being Week will focus on gratitude. It’s an important well being skill to have as it allows us to celebrate the
moment and build positive emotions. It contributes to our overall sense of wellbeing and happiness. It builds empathy;
the ability to relate to others feelings. This link takes you to an article with some useful methods for encouraging an
attitude of gratitude with our children.

end of Year Christmas Concert. We ask children to be at school

At last night’s P&F Meeting we had the chance to reflect and give thanks for the wonderful year that St Peter’s has
had. Presented below is a summary of my report.
We recapped the events since the last P&F meeting: Prep Orientation Night and Morning, Cultural Night, Camps and
Sleepovers, Remarkable Moments Day, Carolyn’s Farewell, Trivia Night and World Teachers Day. Schools really are
busy places that allow many expressions of learning and community.
We looked to the final events for 2017: Christmas Concert, Piano Concert, End of Year Yr 6 Graduation events and
Retreat Days, Final Day Mass, Transitions, Volunteers’ Assembly, Wellbeing Week and Excursions.
We shared a summary of the success of 2017 from our annual goal setting

We shared some broad ideas about the What Next.. RE – alignment of St Mary MacKillop and community of learning for 2018, Mass and liturgy meaning making with students, continued excellent learning and teaching goals with Reading with data gathering about numeracy, School Behaviour Policy - PB4L (calm classrooms and transitions), Technology in the classrooms and planning for refurbishment of
classroom spaces. This goal setting cycle will be finalised over the coming weeks and early in to term 1, 2018. It’s a time of analyzing data and feedback and determining the next steps that will make a difference to our children and our community.
We gave thanks: On behalf of the school community I wish to thank our outgoing P&F executive. Michael, Christian, Daniella and Mark – as a parent group you each have contributed much to the feel and life of St Peter’s School – from working bees, involvement and organization in social events, BBQs, raffles, advice and feedback, positivity and willingness to do what was needed was no small feat. In my first year as principal here I have greatly valued the
contribution to our school. To Ainsley (Tuckshop) and Janine (Uniform shop) for the professional way that you go about providing quality service for the kids and families of St Peters. To the parents and community members that helped with organizing the various year level events, Mother’s Day stalls, market nights, trivia night, Father’s Day BBQ, Discos as well as involvement in class help and the tuckshop - I too wish to thank you for the contribution you made.
We welcomed the new P&F Executive team: Welcome Michael (continuing in his role as President, Sarah (new Vice President) Allan (Treasurer) and Daniella (continuing in role as secretary) As a parent leadership team we look forward to planning the 2018 year together to continue to be positive role models to our children and to build a community that grows closer to be a community of lived faith, excellent learning and active peace makers.
Wishing you all a peaceful week ahead!

News from Primary Learning Leader
Reporting at St. Peter’s
Over the course of this semester teachers at St. Peter’s have been using a range of assessment tools with your child to determine their level of achievement within all curriculum areas. These judgements provide the framework for reporting to you about your child’s progress on their formal report card for Semester Two.
In the final week of this term you will receive your child’s report card. This semester this report will only be able to be accessed via the parent portal. If you did not have access to the internet could you please contact the office so that a printed copy can be organised. You will also receive a folio of work which will provide you with samples of your child’s progress across all curriculum areas.
As per Semester One, report card judgements are made on a folio of evidence collected. When providing twice yearly written reports, teachers:
• compare the student work with the achievement standard and make a judgement about whether the evidence in the folio reflects the knowledge, understanding and skills in the achievement standard.
• make a professional judgement about the quality of the evidence using a 5 point scale i.e. Does the evidence show a depth of understanding, sophistication of skill and/or application of knowledge that goes beyond that described in the standard?
