Sunday Night Football returns to Kansas City and Arrowhead Stadium this week for the fi rst time since the Chiefs hosted Buffalo (10/26/03). It will mark the second primetime game at Arrowhead Stadium after the team played San Diego (10/31) on Monday Night Football. Kansas City will be making its third primetime appearance of the season. Kansas City enters Sunday’s contest against Pittsburgh with a 4-6 record. Last week, the Chiefs fell 34-3 at New England (11/21) on Monday Night Football. Pittsburgh enjoyed a bye week last week, but registered a 24-17 victory at Cincinnati (11/13) in its last contest to improve its record to 7-3. QB Tyler Palko started his fi rst NFL contest Monday night at New England (11/21). He became only the 14th different quarterback to make his fi rst NFL start in a Chiefs uniform. The Chiefs defense has intercepted 13 passes to tie for third in the NFL. Kansas City is on pace for 25 pickoffs, the club’s highest total since getting 25 in 2003. Mike Tomlin was named the 16th head coach in Steelers history on Jan. 22, 2007. In his second campaign in 2008, Tomlin led Pittsburgh to a 12-4 record and a victory in Super Bowl XLIII. At 36 years, 323 days, he became the youngest coach in NFL history to win a Super Bowl. He led the Steelers to a 10-6 record and an AFC North title in 2007, making him the only Steelers coach in history to win divisional titles in each of his first two years as head coach.

Before moving to the head coaching role in Pittsburgh, Tomlin spent one season as defensive coordinator in Minnesota (2006) after coaching defensive backs in Tampa Bay (2001-05). He began his coaching career at the Virginia Military Institute (’95) before becoming a graduate assistant at Memphis (’96). He then coached the wide receivers (’97) and defensive backs (’98) at Arkansas State. Tomlin finished his collegiate coaching career overseeing the defensive backs at the University of Cincinnati (’99-00).

Born in Hampton, Va. on March 15, 1972, Tomlin was a wide receiver at William and Mary (’90-93), finishing his collegiate career with 101 receptions for 2,046 yards and a school-record 20 TDs. He was a first-team All-Yankee Conference selection in ’94.

Todd Haley was named the 11th head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 6, 2009 and is in his third year leading the Chiefs. Haley is in his 17th season in the NFL in 2011 and his 15th season as an NFL coach after beginning his career as a scouting assistant with the N.Y. Jets in ’95. Haley led the Chiefs to a 10-6 record in 2010 after posting a 4-12 mark in 2009 for the best single-season turnaround in franchise history. Kansas City won the AFC West Championship

as Haley was named the NFL Coach of the Year by the NFL Alumni Association and the AFC Coach of the Year by the Committee of 101. Haley joined the Chiefs after a two-year stint as Arizona’s offensive coordinator (2007-08), helping the Cardinals reach Super Bowl XLIII as the club won its first division title since ’75. He has made playoff appearances with five different NFL teams. He served as passing game coordinator/WRs coach under Bill Parcells with Dallas (2004-06) after beginning his career under Parcells with the N.Y. Jets (’97-00). He also served as WRs coach with Chicago (2001-03). Born on Feb. 28, 1967, Haley grew up in Upper St. Clair, Pa. He is the son of long-time NFL personnel executive Dick Haley, who helped build the Steelers Super Bowl teams of the ’70s. He was a ’91 graduate of the University of North Florida.

NFL COACHING CLASS OF 2009

• Of the nine head coaches hired in 2009, only Jim Caldwell (Colts) and Rex Ryan (Jets) own more victories in their fi rst three seasons than Todd Haley. The Chiefs are one of three teams to make a playoff appearance of the nine teams that made a head coaching change for the 2009 season.

Perhaps even more impressive is his streak of 10,775 consecutive snaps played. Wiegmann has opened 153 games in a Chiefs uniform, the fourth-highest total by an offensive lineman in Chiefs history. CB Brandon Carr has started 58 consecutive games to start his career. His streak dates back to a contest at New England (9/7/08) after the club opened in its nickel package. The Chiefs capped a dramatic comeback at Arrowhead with a 22-yard FG from rookie K Ryan Succop to register a 27-24 OT win vs. Pittsburgh. The game-winning score was set up by a 61-yard pass from QB Matt Cassel to WR Chris Chambers. Kansas City’s defense forced three takeaways, including two INTs from LB Andy Studebaker, who made his first NFL start for injured LB Mike Vrabel.

Pittsburgh won the overtime coin toss and was driving before QB Ben Roethlisberger was knocked out of the contest. QB Charlie Batch came in, but Pittsburgh’s drive was thwarted when LB Jovan Belcher dropped RB Mewelde Moore for a three-yard loss on third and two from the Kansas City 35-yard line. The Chiefs took over at their own 20-yard line to begin the game-winning scoring march.

RB Jamaal Charles returned the opening kickoff for a 97-yard TD to give Kansas City a 7-0 lead. Then the Steelers would register 17 unanswered points. CB Brandon Flowers forced Kansas City’s first takeaway of the game when he stripped Steelers WR Mike Wallace, but the Chiefs couldn’t capitalize.

The Steelers marched to the KC 34-yard line where they converted a key fourth and one before eventually settling for a 36-yard K Jeff Reed FG to narrow the Chiefs lead to 7-3. After a Kansas City punt, Roethlisberger capped a 95-yard scoring drive with an eight-yard TD pass to WR Hines Ward giving the Steelers a 10-7 lead with 5:32 left in the first half.

The Chiefs punted again on their next possession and Roethlisberger promptly answered. A 10-yard TD pass to TE Heath Miller gave the Steelers a 17-7 lead heading into halftime. Pittsburgh got the ball to start the second half, but a Roethlisberger pass was picked off by Studebaker, giving the Chiefs possession at their own 38-yard line. Cassel then led a seven-play drive that culminated with a 21-yard TD to a wide open TE Leonard Pope to close the gap to 17-14.

With Pittsburgh poised at the Chiefs 10-yard line, Studebaker recorded his second interception of the day as he picked off a Roethlisberger pass two yards deep in the end zone and returned it 94 yards to the Pittsburgh eight-yard line. That set up a 27-yard FG from Succop to knot the score at 17-17 with 0:09 left in the third quarter.

After a Steelers punt, Cassel was sacked by LB Lawrence Timmons and lost the ball. LB James Harrison recovered the fumble at the Kansas City 32-yard line. Roethlisberger then connected on an eight-yard pass to RB Rashard Mendenhall, giving Pittsburgh a 24-17 lead with 8:35 left in regulation.

On Kansas City’s next possession, Cassel hooked up with WR Lance Long for a 30-yard gain and followed that with a 47-yard pass to Chambers, moving the ball to the Pittsburgh 13-yard line. Charles rushed for a first down to the Steelers two-yard line and then grabbed a two-yard pass from Cassel on the next play to tie the score at 24-24 with 4:54 left to play.

After exchanging punts, the Chiefs got the ball back with 0:22 remaining in regulation and ultimately opted to take their chances in the extra session.

Pittsburgh won the overtime toss and began moving downfield before Roethlisberger exited the game. The Steelers eschewed a 53-yard FG attempt and punted, setting the stage of Kansas City’s game- winning drive in OT.

GAME NOTES• RB Jamaal Charles returned the opening kickoff for a 97-yard TD, tying for the fifth-longest kickoff return in franchise history.• LB Andy Studebaker registered his first two career INTs, including one that he returned 94 yards, the fifth-longest INT return in Chiefs history.

LB Andy Studebaker records two INTs off Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger

The New England Patriots scored 34 unanswered points in the final three quarters of the game to take a 34-3 victory over the Chiefs on Monday Night Football at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots held advantages in all offensive categories, outgaining the Chiefs in total net yards (380 to 334), rushing (157 to 119) and passing (223 to 215). The Chiefs defense held QB Tom Brady to 234 yards passing, but allowed two touchdowns. TE Rob Gronkowski recorded four receptions for 96 yards with two touchdowns to pace New England’s offense. RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis rushed 20 times for 81 yards. QB Tyler Palko completed 25 of 38 passes for 236 yards but was intercepted three times in the contest. RB Thomas Jones had eight rushes for 48 yards and WR Dwayne Bowe recorded seven catches for 87 yards in the game. Both teams opened their first two possessions of the game with punts. The Kansas City offense found rhythm after CB Javier Arenas registered a 25-yard punt return to put the Chiefs near midfield. RB Thomas Jones reeled off his longest run of the year, a 26-yard scamper to move the Chiefs to the Patriots five-yard line. K Ryan Succop would eventually connect on a 26-yard field goal to go up 3-0 with 2:30 left to play in the first quarter. The Chiefs drive covered 45 yards in nine plays. After the Chiefs field goal, Kansas City attempted an onside kick to catch New England off guard. An illegal touching penalty before the ball went 10 yards gave New England possession at the Kansas City 44-yard line. After New England moved the ball to the Kansas City 30-yard line, DE Wallace Gilberry sacked Brady and forced a fumble. DL Allen Bailey recovered the fumble, ending the Patriots drive. New England was first to reach the end zone when Brady found Gronkowski in open space for a 52-yard touchdown to put the Patriots up 7-3 with 4:18 left in the first half. A Kansas City INT then turned into a New England field goal. K Stephen Gostkowski’s 21-yard field goal split the uprights, giving New England the 10-3 lead with 0:10 left in the first half. New England received the opening kickoff and Brady again found Gronkowski for 19 yards up the right sideline, putting New England up 17-3 with 10:27 left in the third quarter. Following the Patriots score, Kansas City went three and out. New England WR Julian Edelman returned Colquitt’s punt 72 yards for a touchdown to put the Patriots up 24-3 with 9:24 left in the third quarter. Another Chiefs INT resulted in Gostkowski's second field goal of the night as he booted a 19-yarder to put the Patriots up 27-3. New England's final score came when the offense moved the ball to the Kansas City four-yard line. Facing fourth and goal with 1:01 left in the game, the Patriots added one more touchdown as RB Shane Vereen found the end zone, making the final score 34-3.
