Our vision is to become the most preferred black owned company in matters of construction and maintenance, and try to reduce the unemployment among the economically disadvantaged people.

BACKGROUND

Thamandla Construction and Maintenance is an emerging black owned enterprise which was established by two innovative and ambitious young black men. The challenge was the gap in the rural areas that the members identified, since one of the members grew up in the local community and most of the local people are running away from the rural areas and they forget about where they come from.

Initially, the challenge was to choose an industry of focus, and we thought of going for as diverse a field of options as possible. This was thought to be a fisherman concept of casting the net wide. Inten-sive marketing, networking and prospecting has however landed the Close Corporation into civil engineering and general building which has now became the entity’s main business focus.

While concentrating on that in the meanwhile, opportunities from other sectors of the economy are not ignored.

Thamandla Construction and Maintenance is aimed athelping improve, among other things:• The supply of water in rural communities• The employment of previously disadvantaged people in the communities• Improving infrastructure of South Africa (road and building maintenance)
