Foreword
Introduction of ACS Seminar Organized
by the Association of Asian Classification
Societies (ACS) Today, Asian ship owners operate nearly half of the world’s merchant
fleet and Asian countries build about 90% of all new ships. As global
trade patterns have shifted eastwards and more and more decision-
making takes place in Asia, the Asian maritime community needs to
clearly express a stronger and more influential ”Asian voices” in the
international maritime arena.
To that end, ACS organizes regular technical seminars in the Asian
regions. ACS is an association of six classificiation socieites
headquartered in Asia namely BKI, CCS, ClassNK, IRS, KR and VR.
The ACS Seminar on Shipping and Shipbuilding 2014 in Indonesia will
focus on safety and environmental topics and recent International
regulatory developments bringing together members of the Asian
maritime community and regional maritime professionals.
Speakers from the member societies of ACS, including Chairman and
members of ACS Technical Managament Group (TMG) and Working
Groups (WG), and invited guest speakers will cover a wide range of
