CAVITE

CAVITE is a province of the Phillipines located on the southern

shores of Manila Bay in the CALABARZON region in Luzon, just 30 kilometers south in Manila.

It’s capital is the City of Trece Martires. Cavite is sorrounded by the provinces of Laguna to the east and Batangas to the south. The province has 4 component cities and 19 Municipalities

August 28, 1896 when the revolution against Spain broke out, Cavite became a bloody theater of war.

Page 6: Region 4-A

The province is known as the Historical Capital of the Philippines. It was the cradle of the Philippine Revolution, a renouncement of the Spanish colonial control for over 300 years, culminating with the declaration of independence on June 12, 1898 in Kawit, Cavite.

Filipinos launched their revolt against Spain. Three Filipino priests— Jose Burgos, Mariano Gomez and Jacinto Zamora—were implicated in the Cavite mutiny when 200 Filipinos staged a rebellion within Spanish garrisons

Geology

Cavite's land resources are categorized into two: forest lands and alienable and disposable lands. Forest lands are being maintained as they play a great role for the ecological balance of the province aside from the fact that they are home to numerous flora and fauna that needs to be protected and preserved. Correspondingly, the alienable and disposable lands are the built-up areas as well as production areas. These lands are intended for urban, economic and demographic developments.

• The kumintang is the name given to several distinct styles, techniques and forms in music and dance probably originating in the areas used by early Spanish cartographers and chronicles to denote a large province centering around what is known as Batangas. Early 19th-century travelers' accounts often mention the kumintang as a Tagalog "chant national", describing them as dance-songs performed by pairs of men and women, with texts concerning love and courtship.

HISTORICAL DATES AND EVENTS

In 1572, the town of Taal was founded and its convent and stone church were constructed later.

In 1581, the Spanish government abolished the Bonbon Province and created a new province which came to be known as Balayan Province. The new province was composed of the present provinces of Batangas, Mindoro, Marinduque, southeast Laguna and Camarines.

After the devastating eruption of Taal Volcano in 1754, the old town of Taal, present day San Nicolas, was buried. The capital was eventually transferred to Batangas (now a city) in fear of further eruptions where it has remained to date.

This industry has become so famous that an urban legend exists about every Batangueño carrying a balisong everywhere they go.

. This is also the reason why most Filipinos would warn never to mess with a Batangueño.
