PROGRESSREPORTSANDREPORTCARDSParentswillreceivereportcardswithcumulativedataontheirchildren’sperformanceandprogressattheendofeachsemester.Itisrecommendedthatparentsreviewtheirchild’sreportcardsandtranscriptsinordertoassistwithmakingcertainthattheirstudentismakingadequateprogresstowardmeetingtheirgraduationrequirements.TextbooksandSuppliesWe will furnish textbooks and instructional materials that remain schoolproperty.Parentsmayberequiredtoreimbursetheschoolforlostordamagedbooks,beforenewbooksareissued.Studentsareaskedtofurnishsomeoftheirownsupplies.Pleasereferencetheschoolsupplylistfoundontheschoolwebsite.
Allstudentsmustbeinuniformandentertheschoolthroughtheintakeareaunlessaccompaniedbyaparentorstaff.Allstudentsbelongingswillbeplacedonthetableandstudentswillpassthroughthemetaldetectors.Studentswillnotbeallowedtocome

SchoolUniforms
Tohelpcreateanenvironmentconducivetolearning,studentsarerequiredtowearassigneduniformshirtswithpants.Toprovideanatmosphereforlearning,itisourbeliefthatstudentsshouldbedressedappropriatelyandingoodtaste.Students’dressandappearance,alongwithconduct,haveadefiniteinfluenceonclassdisciplineandachievement.Thispolicy isdesignedtopermitstudentstofocustheirattentionsonacademicsandonthoseaspectsoftheirpersonalitiesthataretrulyimportant.
Studentsaretopresentaneatappearanceandclothingmaynothaveholesortears.Alluniformitemsshouldbeanappropriatesizefortheindividual.Necklaces,braceletsorringsshouldnotbeadistractionandmayneedtoberemovedforsafetyduringsomeactivities.Theschoolisnotliableforanylosses.

Regularschoolattendanceisessential.Ateachercannotteachastudentwhoisnotpresent.Asageneralrule,absencesshouldoccuronlyasaresultofillnessorinjury.Doctor’sappointmentsshouldbescheduledoutsideoftheschoolday.Whenanabsenceisplanned,itishelpfuliftheteacherisinformedasfarinadvanceaspossible.Tardinesshasthesameimpactasanabsence.Itisalossofinstructionaltime.IFASTUDENTISABSENT,weaskthattheparentcalltheschoolbeforethesessionbegins.Awrittenexcusegivingthedateoftheabsenceandthereasonisrequiredafteranyabsenceortardinessifnophonecallisreceived.Absencesmustbeexcusedwithin48hoursortheyareconsideredunexcused.Ifanabsenceisnotexcusednomakeupworkwillbegivenbyanyteacher.Onlyexcusedabsencesarewarrantedingivingmakeupwork.
TARDINESS
InstructionatReginaldF.Lewisbeginspromptlyat8:00AM,anditiscriticalthatallstudentsbepreparedtobegininstructionontime.Therefore,studentsmustarriveatschoolbefore7:50a.m.Astudentwhoislatemissesvaluableinstructionaltimeandconveysanunacceptablelackofregardfortheschool.
Whenastudentarrivesafterthelatebell(7:59a.m.),thestudentwillbeconsideredtardyandtheincidentwillberecorded.Ifastudentistardyfourtimes,theproblemwillberegardedaschronic,anditwillbereported.Beingatschoolontimeinthemorningandstayinginschooluntiltheendoftheschooldayiscentraltoreceivingagoodeducation.
ABSENCES
Pleasesendawrittenexcusewheneverachildisgoingtobeabsenttotheteacherwhenthechildreturnstoschool.
Intheeventthatextraordinarycircumstancesrequirethatthestudentbeabsentfromschool,anAuthorizedAbsencePlanmaybedevelopedjointlybytheteacher,theadministration,andthestudent’sparentorlegalguardian.Theplanwilldefinethelengthoftheabsenceandthemeansbywhichthestudentwillmake-uptheworkheorshewillmiss.Theplanmustbeapprovedandsignedbyadministrationandtheparent/guardianpriortothestudent’sabsenceandthestudentwillnotbeallowedtomakeupmissedwork.

ReginaldF.Lewisisopentoallchildren,onaspace-availablebasis.Theschooldoesnotdiscriminateonthebasisofintellectualorathleticability,measuresofachievementoraptitude,disability,proficiencyinEnglish,oranyotherbasisprohibitedbylaw.
Onceallavailableslotsarefilled,applicantswillbeplacedonawaitlist.Studentswillbeadmittedfromthewaitlistasplacesbecomeavailable,intheorderthattheapplicationswerefiled.Preferenceisgiventosiblingsofadmittedstudents.
RE-ENROLLMENT
Studentswhoseenrollmenthasbeenterminated,orsuspendedforanyreasonmustre-enrollinordertobepermittedtoparticipateintheinstructionalday.Chronicunexcusedabsencescanbeacauseforyourchildtoberemovedfromtheroll/schoolroster.Ifthisoccurs,yourchildwillneedtobere-enrolledbackintotheschool.
TRANSFERS
Theschoolasksthatparentsprovideatleasttwo-weeknoticeifastudentmusttransferfromReginaldF.Lewisforanyreason.Suchnoticewillallowtheschooltoprocessthenecessarytransferpaperwork,includinghavingthestudent’srecordstransferred.Itwillalsoenabletheschooltofillthevacantseatwithanotherstudentfromthewaitlist.

AllstudentinformationisprotectedbytheFamilyEducationalRightstoPrivacyActforthepurposeofprotectingstudentconfidentiality

HealthandSafety
Students’ health and safety is the school’s foremost concern. The followinginformation describes the precautions taken to protect the well-being of allstudents. If your childhas any specifichealth, safety, or securityneedspleaseinform the school so that appropriate accommodations can bemade.We areregulated by the State Department of Health Services. All facility inspectionreportsareavailableuponrequest.
MEDICATION
The Administration and the student’s teacher must be informed of anyprescriptionmedicationthatastudentisrequiredtotakeatschool.Todispenseprescriptionmedicationtostudents,theschoolmustreceiveawrittenorderfromthe student’s doctor and a permission slip from the student’s parent. Allmedication must be brought to the school’s office in its original prescription

container,labeledwiththestudent’sname,thenameofthemedication,thedateofexpiration,andtheproperdosage.Ifmedicationneedstobeadministeredtothechild,aschoolnursewilladministerthemedication.
Non-prescriptionmedications: If, during the course of the school day, it isnecessary for a student to receive common,non-prescriptionmedication (e.g.,Tylenol),theparent/guardianmustfilloutapermissiontoadministeragreementwiththeschoolnurse.
Parents/guardiansmustinformtheschoolofanyallergiestoorrestrictionsonnon-prescriptionmedicationthattheirchildrenmighthave.Parents/guardiansarerequiredtonotifytheschoolinwritingifyourchildhasachronicillnessthatmayaffecthisorherperformanceatschool.

ACCIDENTS
Atrainedstaffmember/schoolnursewilladministerinitialtreatmentsofminorinjuries.Thestudent’semergencycontactwillbenotifiedimmediatelybyphoneand email whenever medical treatment is administered to a student, and anIncidentReportwillbekeptinthestudent’spermanentfile.Insuchcases,itisespeciallycrucialthattheschoolhasworkingphonenumbersforstudents’parentsandforalternatecontactsintheeventthataparentisunavailable.Pleasebediligentinkeepingtheschool’srecordsforyourchildup-to-date.
VISITORIDENTIFICATION
To help ensure a safe and secure learning environment for your children, allvisitorsarerequiredtosign-inthroughourvisitor’scomputerizedsysteminthemainofficeandprovidephotoidentification.
FIREDRILLS/EVACUATIONS
The schoolwill have at least five fire drills per school yearwithin the schoolhours. Specific signals and procedures have been established for all types ofdisaster drills, and safety areas have been designated. Teachers are equippedwithinstructions,andalldrillswillbepracticedwithstudents.Theentireschoolwillpracticeweatherandsecuritylockdowns.Duringthesedrills,noonewillbeallowedtoenterorleavetheschool.Pleasebepatientandunderstandingofthisimportantrule.Yourchild’ssafetyisournumberoneconcern.

Eachmemberofourstaffcommunityhasaroletoplayincreatingasafe,orderlyenvironment that is conducive to learning. The various roles and theresponsibilitiesthataccompanyeachareoutlinedonthefollowingpages.
CLASSROOMTEACHERSandSupportStaff
The classroom teacher is the center of the school’s character education anddisciplinepolicy.
Therearethreebasicprinciplesofclassroomleadershipanddisciplinethatwillbeimplementedbyallteachers:
Atthebeginningoftheschoolyear,studentswillbegiventheinformationtheyneedtobehaveresponsiblyineachtypeofclassroomactivity,andtheireffortswillbereinforcedthroughouttheyear.
Teacherswillstrivetointeractfrequentlywitheachstudentwhenthestudentisbehavingappropriately.
Whenmisbehavioroccursteacherswillcalmlyandconsistentlyimplementmildclassroom consequences and corrective actions taken in response toinappropriatebehavior.Suchinstanceswillbeusedasteachingopportunities.
Thoughtheseprincipleswillserveasusefulguides,eachteacher,student,andsituationisunique.Teacherswilluseprofessionaldiscretiontoselectthespecificproceduresthatfitindividualstudentneedsandparticularsituations.
Teacherswillworkincollaborationwithotherstafftosolveproblemsthatarechronicorsevere.TechniquesthatmaybeusedbyteachersindealingwithminorbehaviorproblemsaswellasproceduresforrespondingtochronicmisbehavioraredescribedintheBCPSSCODEOFCONDUCT.
Administration
The role of the Administrator with regard to discipline is to guide staff andstudents in their efforts to ensure student success—the central mission ofReginaldF.LewisSchoolofBusinessandLaw.

TheAdministrator(s)willassiststaffinimplementingclassroomandschool-widemanagementprocedures.Workingwithappropriatestaff, theAdministrator(s)willprovidetrainingandcontinuedsupporttoteachersastheystrivetoteachstudentsthevalueoffollowingthetenetsoftheBCPSSCODEOFCONDUCT.
TheAdministrator(s)willassiststaffinrespondingtoseveremisbehavior,suchasinsubordinationandphysicallydangerousand/orillegalacts,aswellasanychronicorrecurringproblems.
In certain cases, appropriate staff will initiate student conferences, parentconferences, out-of-school suspensions, or other severe consequences. TheAdministrator(s)mayalsocontacttheappropriatelawenforcementauthorities,dependingonthenatureofincident.IfAdministrator(s)isunavailabletoassistwithacrisissituation,theschool’sadministrativeassistantwilldirectreferralstoanotherassignedstaffmember.
The Administrator(s) will lead the school’s Leadership Team and will beresponsibleforensuringthattheTeammeetsonaregularbasis.Inaddition,theAdministrator(s)willassistteacherswiththeimplementationoftheirclassroommanagement/leadershipplans,ifneeded.
SUPPORTSTAFF
The Reginald F. Lewis School of Business and Law staff includesAdministrative Assistant, Registrar, Para-Educators, Behavior Specialists, theClimateLead,Classroomteachers,SchoolPolice,andthecustodialstaff.
TheAdministrativeAssistantfortheschoolservesasthefirstpointofcontactfor parents, monitors parents’ concerns and supports the Principal andLeadershipTeamensuring compliancewith corporate, local, state and federalguidelinesandprocedures.
As amemberof theLeadershipTeam, theAttendanceMonitorservesas thecatalyst formaintainingandmonitoring theattendancerecordsof thestudentbody. The Registrar will be available to all parties to assist with enrollingstudents,withdrawingstudents,andrespondingtoquestionsorconcernsrelatedtomakingcertainthatastudentisactivelyenrolledintheschool’sprogramming.
The school has full-time Para-Educators to address the needs of studentsrequiringservices.Theyserveasaresourcetotheschool inassistingwiththeimplementationofIndividualEducationPlans(IEPs),specialeducationreferralprocesses,studentstudies,andstaffdevelopmentrelatedtostudentswithspecialneeds.

The school will contract with local providers for speech, language, andpsychologicalservices,occupationaltherapy,physicaltherapy,andotherrelatedservicesasidentifiedbystudents’IEPs.
ClassroomTeachers are responsible for presenting rigorous lessons to yourchild on a daily basis. They are available to assist each child during theinstructionalday,andwillbescheduledtohelpstudentsafterschoolhours(atleastonedayeachweekperteacher).Classroomteachersareoneofthemostimportantcomponentsoftheschoolstaff.
ClimateLead/BehaviorSpecialistpersonnelareavailabletoensurethesafetyandsecurityof thestudentswhoattendReginaldF.Lewis. Thepersonnelarebehavioral specialists responsible for gang intervention, hall monitoring,facilitating intervention groups, supporting teacher discipline incidents, andcommunicatinginformationtoschoolpolice.
