Task What did you learn from this? How will you use this in your own construction task?

Trailer analyses From looking at a large variety of different horror trailers this has allowed me to look at the different generic conventions that are used within the horror genre and even more specifically what is within the horror trailers.

From looking at the different horror trailer this has made me think when making my horror trailer I thought of the different generic conventions within shots, sounds, mise-en-scene and editing to make sure that to a certain degree I am making sure that it fits in with the genre.

Titles analyses From looking at the different title that are used within my work I have learned that the titles are often placed central, along with the use of direct address towards the audience within the titles.

From looking at different titles I have used direct address within the titles along with placing them central so they can be seen.

Research into potential target audience From this I have learned that the male audience are the typical gender who are going to be interested in the horror genre. I have also come to the conclusion how the social class that would be interested within my horror genre would be classes C1 and bellow.

From the audience research I saw how I would have to make sure that my work applied to the typical audience in order for it to be successful. In order to make sure I gained the male audience I stuck to the stereotypical characters. To try and gain the other classes above C1 I have challenged some of the conventions in order to create mystery that they will want to try and figure out.

Questionnaire on storyboard I learned what my audience like about our ideas for the trailer, what they think either will or won’t work and what will need to be changed.

It highlighted the fact that what we had decided to do for our trailer was good as all of the questionnaires came out positive.

Risk Assessment What the different risks could be when doing out recording.

When recording we will use the risk assessment in order to make sure that we don’t harm ourselves in the recording process.

Conventional locations Many locations used within the typical horror genre are I used this within my work as we recorded allot of our

isolated areas, big houses, cabins and the woods. work within a woods and in isolated locations in order to fit the typical conventions.

Conventional props Use of murder weapons usually knifes. Masks in order to hide the identity the bad person.

I decided not to use the knife as I wanted to change some of the conventions and create a mystery. However I did use the mask as I wanted to hide the identity of the antagonist.

Conventional actors Male and female characters that usually oppose each other. Weak vs strong. Usually young characters.

I used the typical characters that I identified as the typical conventions as I didn’t want to break the generic convention.

Conventional costumes Antagonist- usually dark clothing that doesn’t give away anything about the character.

Protagonist- normal day time clothing.

Stuck to the convention as I wanted to make sure that my horror trailer was traditional.

Magazine analyses From look at a large amount of different types of magazines I was able to identify the typical conventions of layout/ page design along with the need for variety in texts and font size. I have also seen how images are used within a magazine along with the use of direct address.

To make sure that my magazine I used all the typical conventions that I identified within my analysis. When making my magazine I made sure that I placed the title at the top central in a large font to make sure that it easy to be seen. I also used a variety of different fonts as well as font’s sizes. With my main image I also made sure that I used direct address as well as making it big enough to show that it is the main feature of the magazine.

Film poster analyses From looking a range of different horror film posters I have be able to identify the typical conventions that are used within the poster. Such as layout/page design along with the use of images and text.

When making my own poster I will be using everything that I have learned from looking at all the different posters that I analysed. Within my poster I used a good main image that I then framed and edited on Photoshop in order to make it look realistic and good.
