Robinson¶s favorite part about the show is the humor that is in it. He stated, “These people were stuck together for two years, and there is no way you can survive that long without having something to laugh at.” The theater is no different than any sports team in the school. There¶s always those years where the program is in a state of rebuilding after the loss of many strong Seniors from the previous year. That was the case this year, and it proved to be the most difficult part of the production. Robinson stated, “I lost a lot of great talent last year. This year was about rebuilding, so I had to go back and teach a lot of things that I haven¶t had to teach for awhile.” The play took place on November 18th, 19th, and 20th. The average attendance for each of the days that weekend was about 100 per performance. That number was extremely disappointing to Mr. Robinson because of the lack of student attendance. “We had maybe 30 high school students total come to the show. It¶s unfortunate when students work hard and do a good job and they don¶t get the support they deserve.” The Red & White would like to encourage the student body to go out and support the students the next time they put on a production. It¶s guaranteed to be a good show when it¶s put on by the WHS Theater!

A Group to Rememberby Ashlie Hall

November 11... On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11thmonth of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation ofhostilities, was declared between the Allied nations andGermany in the First World War, then known as "theGreat War." Commemorated as Armistice Daybeginning the following year, November 11th became alegal federal holiday in the United States in 1938. Inthe aftermath of World War II and the Korean War,Armistice Day became Veterans Day, a holidaydedicated to American veterans of all wars.(www.history.com)

...A day to remember. On November 11, WHS welcomed Veterans, Ms.Joyce Parsons, the Family of Charles Adkins, andMelissa Stockwell. Melissa spoke on the loss of her leg, followed by Ms. Parsons beautiful singing and harpplaying. Charles Adkins mother then gave a beautifultribute to her son who lost his life serving our country.Overall, it was a touching assembly, and everyone tookto heart the sacrifices that were given for our freedoms.

In the United States, there are 100,000

patients waiting for some type of transplant ,andevery 18 minutes someone is added to the NationalTransplant waiting list. Furthermore, every day 18people die waiting for a transplant. Many peopledon’t know the facts about organ transplants andhow common and needed they are today. So, thisissue should not be ignored. One donor can provideorgans and tissues for more than 50 people. It isillegal to buy or sell any type of organ or tissue andthat’s why everybody must be a donor. Anybodyhas the potential to be a donor. Last year, therewere more than 6,000 transplants from livingdonors. This topic has caught the eye of one WHSstaff member. Mr. Tiffany has spoken up aboutOrgan donations and transplants.” I feel like it is aworthwhile program that young people should beexposed to,” says Mr. Tiffany. He goes on to say,“Organ and tissue donations can save lives. Tofoster humanitarian effects, we should do what wecan, when we can, to encourage them.” We shouldall support this cause and give support to thosewho do need transplants. So, when the day you get

your license comes, and that nice lady asks you,“Would you like to be an organ donor?” Make sureyou think about your decision. You never know, youmight be able to save a life.

Talking To Wallsby Caitlin Ackley

After the long, cold bus ride at 6:30 in the morning, all thestudents make their way into the foreign territory and find asection of the cafeteria to call their own. Everyone unloadshis or her things and settles down for a brief moment beforeleaving to find a wall to chat with for the next ten minutes. Then they migrate into an unfamiliar room with about 6 othernervous competitors and a judge that stares them down asthey sit in an open seat. After that they wait, shaking withnerves, for the judge to call their number.

The speech season has begun, once again, and the

team is starting out strong. They’re not crazy, just dedicated

Run Forest, Run!by Jacob Bray

State bound in 2011, Wauseon High School CrossCountry had a very good season. With the girls teammaking it all the way to the “Big Dance,” accompanied byFreshman Wade Hodges, success was in the cards for therunning Indians. Hodges, along with Freshman TaylorVernot, received All Ohio Honors. With the success of theyoung bucks on the team, Cross Country is poised fordominance in the near future. Wade Hodges had a very successful season in his firstyear on the varsity team. He was runner-up at leagues, 8thplace at districts, 8th place at regionals, and 73rd at state.

When asked how it felt to be a Freshman and be sosuccessful, he replied, “It feels awesome, but it takes a lot ofhard work.” Hodges’ most memorable moment of theseason was going into the regional meet ranked 15th andplacing 8th. “I plan on running cross country throughout highschool, and my main goal is to win two state titles,” Wadesaid. The Red and White staff would like to wish Wadegood luck in his upcoming years at Wauseon High School. The other All Ohio selection from WHS was FreshmanTaylor Vernot. Vernot placed 12th in the state meet thisseason. When asked what she likes most about CrossCountry, she said, “We all have a lot of fun at practices, and Ilove how everyone on the team supports each other.” Shealso states that the team really bonded over the weekend atstate, and they had a blast running their last race as a team.Vernot loves the thrill of only being a Freshman and stillcompeting on an elite level against experiencedupperclassmen. “It makes all of those long miles and hardwork worth it.” We at the Red and White would like tocongratulate Taylor on a very successful season. Both teams would like to thank the town of Wauseonand their teammates for the exponential support throughoutthe season. The Red and White, as well as the rest of thestudent body, would like to congratulate the cross countryteams on a successful season and good luck in theupcoming years.

“Can” U Dig IT?!by Dugan Shadbolt

This was the third year that the “tradition” of

having a homecoming slide show for the study

hall students to watch. To see the show ,students

had to donate either a can of food or a small

amount of money. This food and money was then

sent to the primary school to later be given to the

food pantry. Over the past couple of years, this

has done very well, raising both cans and money,

as well as providing the students something they

like to see. This year’s video production class did

a great job making the slide show. “Everyone in

the class had something to do with it.” Mr. Wyse

added, “Brooke Gerken, Ben Crowell, Tre

Henricks, Donny Hayati, and Russell McClarren

did most of the work to make the show.” Mr.

Wyse also said that most all students who came

to show liked what they saw. He thought the class

did an excellent job. The Red & White also

asked if the class had any other similar activities

planned and the answer was yes, They are

working on a Christmas slide show as well. The

Homecoming slide show was great and the turn

out to watch it was even better. Thanks to all the

hard work of the video production class and a

thanks to Mr. Wyse for providing the information

for the article.

Saving The Worldby Alex Drummer

Of course, everyone thinks recycling is a good

thing, but how many people actually do it? Let

alone, how many would get up early on a Friday

morning to do it? My guess is not many of us.

However, two outstanding young ladies at WHS

do just that. Erica Precht and Nicole Whitmer

help out with the school recycling each Friday

morning. The girls come in between 7:00 and

7:30 a.m. to complete the task. Both helped out a

little last year with it and have now fully taken on

the task this school year. Erica chose to take on

the responsibility because she said, “I needed

NHS hours, and it wasn’t something that I would

mind to do.” Nicole was inspired to help by Elena

Stamm, who performed on the duty last year,

“with her ‘whitty’ ways and beautiful looks and

amazing talent,” Nicole says she did in “hopes to

be as awesome as she is one day.” Both think it’s

very important to recycle. Erica says it’s

important, “so things aren’t wasted

unnecessarily.” Nicole adds it “helps saves trees

and plastics so we don’t just waste materials.”

Good job ladies; keep up the good work!

Pinning The Lanesby Jose Chavez

There are many Winter sports in WauseonHigh School. While many people give attention tothe bigger sports, such as basketball and wrestling,we can’t forget to show support to all of our WHSsports. Bowling is an important sport to many WHSstudents. “There is potential for this upcomingyear,” says coach Pat Carr. With eight returningletter winners, which include Cole Lesinski, AdamWagner, Kevin Moden, Bryce Keller, Ashley King,Manda Martz, Chelsea Ward, and Courtney Fenton, this year’s team is looking very solid. They alsohave four Seniors that are looking to step up and bea threat. This Seniors are Michael Sager, BenMahan, Cole Lesinski, and Amanda Clark. Whenasked about their expectations for this season,Carrsimply said, “To do the best that we can do.” Withthis positive attitude, they’ll try to win a league title. As for their greatest rivals, Carr says, “All of ourmatches are rivals because you never know what toexpect,” This year’s bowling team has high hopesfor this season, and we wouldn’t expect anythingless from them. So, lets support our bowling teamthis year. Good luck guys!

CHECK MATE!by Jacob Bray

There are many new things this year at

Wauseon High School. The newest craze to sweepthe halls of WHS is Chess Club. This neworganization is taking the school by storm withnearly 20 members a meeting. It’s a place to go andcheck some mates and have a good time whiledoing it. Now, many students think that Grand MasterTiffany started chess club on his own free will. Well, this statement is a false truth. A group of studentscame to Mr. Tiffany with the idea. “I was only happyto facilitate it’s development,” Tiffany said. Althoughthere are many “noobs” to chess club, Mr. Tiffanystates that the basics of chess are easy, whiledifferent strategies and special moves are moredifficult. According to Mr. Tiffany, a typical chessclub meeting is as follows; “We get together, breakout the chess boards, and play. As matches arecompleted, new matches start.” The chess club’sroad to existence was a fairly short one. “Officially,we are not a recognized club associated with theschool,” Tiffany states. Therefore they did not haveto get any approval from the administration, but theywere approached about it and felt it was a goodidea. Mr. Tiffany, as well as current members of thechess club, believe the chess club will stick aroundat WHS for years to come. “It is something differentthat provides a challenge for those who enjoy beingchallenged from a game point of view,” Tiffany

stated. Us at the Red and White staff would like to

wish the Chess club as well as grandmaster Tiffanygood luck in the years to come.

College Basketball Predictions

By: Colin Dietrich, Dugan Shadbolt, and Jacob Bray

Colin (14-3) Dugan(12-5) Jacob(12-5)

Arizona @

Florida

Florida is going to win. Youknow why? Because I picked

them.

Florida’s size gives theman upper hand and KennyBoynton is a great player.

I’ll take Florida all day,baby.

This has the potential to bea close one, but if one ofthe teams would to run

away with this one, it wouldbe Florida.

Ohio State @Kansas

Not a Buckeye fan. Matter offact, I hate Ohio State, but I

can’t pick against them.Sullinger and Craft find away to get it done on theroad. OSU wins by four.

I hope Ohio St. doesn’twin a game all year.

Kansas wins and hopefullyit’s not close

OSU is looking great thisyear with many returningstarters, but so is Kansas.Since I bleed Scarlet andGrey, I have Ohio State

pegged to get the W.

Iowa State @Michigan

Michigan is a young andvery talented group of men.Hardaway Jr. leads Michigan

to a victory.

Iowa state isn’t lookinggood. Going with Michigan

here.

Iowa State is off to a roughstart, so Michigan will get

the W.

ColoradoState @ Duke

Duke just has so manyweapons. It is unreal. Duke

wins big!

Duke is a very good teamthis year and Colorado

State is not. Duke by 20.

Dukey, Baby!!

Harvard @

Connecticut

Harvard is a legit basketballteam, and they have a lot of

talent, but not a chanceagaint the Huskies. UCONN

wins.

Uconn lost a lot from lastyear’s title team and

Harvard has some prettysmart guys I hear, but I’ll

go with Uconn.

Harvard is by far smarterthan the public school

UConn Huskies, but brainsdon’t win basketball games.

The Huskies get the win.

MichiganState @

Gonzaga

Yes, Michigan State startedout 0-2, but they battled agood North Carolina team

and also a good Duke team.MSU finds a way to get the

win.

These two programs havea long history for playingeach other tough. I think

Zaga gets this one.

State all the way, baby!

Boise State

@ LSU

I would much rather bewatching a LSU vs. Boise

State football game, but I willgo with LSU in a toss up.

LSU will chant ‘lets playfootball,’ as Boise State

pounds the Tigers.

Boise State pulls off theupset in Louisiana.

Kentucky @North

Carolina

Should be a dandy, but I’mgoing to go with Harrison

Barnes and the Tar Heels athome.

Harrison Barnes might bethe best guard in the

country. UNC gets theclose win here, behind anamazing game by Barnes.

Close one here in Durham, but I’m going to go with

Kentucky with the upset.

Bray Vs. Shadbolt

Jacob: Well, this is one of the

most heated topics of our highschool career, PlayStation orXbox.Dugan: Very true, this is a veryheated topic. I think manystudents have their opinion onthis topic. So to be fair, this willend all future arguments aboutthis topic.Jacob: With the amount of fightsin the school, which are obviouslyall over this topic, this willdefinitely put an end to thefighting. I’ll start by stating my civilopinion. PLAYSTATION 3!Dugan: I have only one thing tosay to that and it’s this; NO!Jacob: I see, Xboxer. Well that istruly a shame, and to think Ithought you were cool all thistime. It’s a real tragedy.Dugan: I think we all know thereal tragedy here is that peoplelike you have never experiencedreal online gaming. You have hadto settle for PSN.Jacob: Very valid point. PSN issketchy at best, but also for thoseof us who don’t play Call of Duty,

having mediocre online gamingisn’t that big of a deal. Also, themajority of PSN gamers havelearned to cope with and evenexcel in the online gaming world.Dugan: PSN is quite sketchy, butI guess you are getting what youpay for with the network beingfree. However, this a majordownfall to the system in myopinion. Even if you don’t playgames online you may want touse other

features like movies off the

internet, and with PSN thedownloading speed is slow to saythe least.Jacob: Downloading speedworks just fine on Playstation.Trust me. Besides, illegallydownloading movies and music iswrong. That’s why Netflix is easilyapplicable to any PSN systemincluding the PSP.Dugan: Well, I thought we weregrown up enough to know thatillegally downloading movies isbad. I was indeed referring toNetflix ,which is also available onXbox 360.Jacob: PS3 also has a fullinternet browser, in which youcan search any movie in theworld. You can also write reportsand research for reports on it.Playstation is used for much morethan gaming in everyday life. Plusthe PS3 has a built in blu-rayplayer, and if I do say so myself, itis quite fantastic.Dugan: While the blu-ray playeris a cool feature, there are manymore with an Xbox, such as Wi-Fibuilt in and media centers wereyou can get game demoes aswell as: movies, movie trailers, full length arcade video games, and music.Jacob: PS3 also has has built inWi-Fi and in the PS store you candownload movie trailers as wellas movies, demos, and themesfor the background of the system. Then add a full web browser anda blu-ray player and BOOM!What more would you

want?

Dugan: The Xbox has everythingyou just said except the blu-rayplayer which is not important atall if your a true online gamer. There is no other way to go butXbox.Jacob: True, until you realizethat PS3 games are blu-raydiscs! That fact adds a wholenew dimension on the aspect ofgaming. COD in blu-ray is quiteepic.Dugan: Blu-ray, shmo-ray. Noone cares. The online gaming iswhat it’s all about and the simplefacts are that PSN stinks, theplayers on PSN stink, and youstink. No really, I’m sitting rightnext to you and you stink.BAHAHAHA!Jacob: Well Bromigo, I showeredthis morning so it’s Drummer butPSN is free. I would rather havemediocre online gaming if myother option was paying $51.95per year for online gaming.Dugan: Well, I pay for goodgaming, and it’s only about fourbucks a month. PSN is free soyour getting what you pay for.Yes, I agree, Drummer may stinka little this morning.Jacob: I personally don’t playonline, so your argument doesn’taffect me. But you have changedmy mind, Xbox all the way!Dugan: No. You changed mymind PS3 is way better!Jacob: K

______________________________________________________________Black Rain: A Continuous Short Story

by Caitlin Ackley and Ashlie Hall

The air fell silent, a cold wind sending chills down my spine. Snowflakes solemnly float in the air, leaving the trees

coated in a thin layer of ice that seems to glisten in the minimal sunlight. The hard packed snow crunches underneath me as I

slowly slide my fingers along the bumpy surface.

Standing up off the damp ground, I can see the sun starting to set off in the distance. The deep red sun is engulfed in

a mixture of pink and purple as it slowly falls beyond the horizon. Surrounded by glimmering trees, I slowly come back into

reality and realise I have no idea where I am. The cool air brushes across my bare arms, not protected by my thin T-shirt and

jeans that are just barely thick enough to entrap a minimal amount of heat. Standing alone in the middle of a forest, with

nothing but the clothes on my back, I look up into the dark blue sky and notice a flock of four or five birds flying overhead. Not

having any better ideas, I begin to walk in the same direction that they are traveling in, hoping they will take me somewhere.

I’m not sure how long I was walking, two, maybe three hours. The sun had completely vanished beyond the hills and

only a faint crescent moon now floated overhead. I stop, shivering in the cold, not able to feel my fingertips, and sit down on the

snow covered ground. I lay back and stare up at the stars and almost laugh slightly to myself. Of all the ways I thought I might

die, I never once thought it would end like this. Lost in the woods, not having any recognition of what happened in the last

twenty-four hours, the life slowly drained out of me as the hypothermia took over.

“This isn’t so bad,” I say to myself. “At least the stars are out.”

The wind blows, sending the birds in the tree tops into a wild panic. They all bolt out of the trees, like something is

after them, and their caws echo in my frost bitten ears. I attempt to follow them, but as the night falls I begin to lose sight of the

fluttering creatures. I keep in the direction they were traveling, hoping it will take me somewhere, anywhere. My feet ache at the

impact of the snow, thinking of a warm fire didn’t work to keep them warm anymore. Cold and alone didn’t give me any hope.

As I keep walking, my foot gets caught on a tree root causing me to fall. I try getting up, but I can’t. Giving into the cold, I pass

out on the snow.

A loud sound rings in my ears as I slowly open my eyes and am blinded by the flashing lights. Squinting, I look around

and through my blurred vision I see the red and blue lights, constantly flashing. As my eyes adjust, I am flooded with hope when

I realise that there is a road not too far away. Forcing my numb, frost bitten body up off the ground, I grab ahold of the tree next

to me for support. I try to scream, to yell for help, but my dried out throat stings with pain, as if I were choking on rocks and

couldn’t catch my breath.

I stumble and fall to my knees, but I don’t feel any pain because all the pain has left my legs. Leaving me feeling

lifeless and limp. The road can only be about ten feet away, and I know it’s my last chance of survival. I take a couple steps

and then fall again, but now I can make out the shape of the police car through the trees. One, no, two men stand next to the

car, but I can’t tell what’s going on. I manage a few more steps and lean all my weight against a tree to keep from falling over.

The lights are brighter now, and I see there is more than one police car. An ambulance sits off to the side of the road

and another man walks over to converse with the other two. I try to scream once more, but the taste of blood fills my mouth and

I quickly abandon that idea.

As I watch the men, I hear a voice off in the distance. All three of the men turn their heads in the direction of the voice

and a group of men comes up out of the ditch across the street. I stumble closer and catch a glimpse of the group of men.

They make their way over to the ambulance, and I watch as they haul a body bag up into it.

I glance across the road, where they came up from the ditch, and see a car. The hood is completely smashed in from

the fallen tree on top of it, piercing straight through the windshield and the shattered windows are stained with blood. Glass is

everywhere surrounding the car and the enormous amount of blood causes me to avert my eyes. Looking down the road, I see

a semi lying on its side. I can almost hear the brakes squealing and the sound of the metal scraping against the pavement as I

notice the black skid marks across the road... To be continued.

~ Poetry Corner ~by Ashlie Hall

I’m In Love With Youby Britzi Neuenschwander

I look away

Then I look back at

you

You tried to say

Things that you can’t

undo

If I had my way

I’d never get over you

When I come undone

You bring me back

again

Back under the stars

Back into your arms

And I don’t want to

fall to pieces

I just want to sit and

stare at you

I don’t want to talk

about it

And I don’t want a

conversation

I just want to cry in

front of you

I don’t want to talk

about it

‘Cuz I’m in love with

you<3

~ Famous Poem ~

Fire and Iceby Robert Frost

Some say the worldwill end in fire,Some say in ice.

From what I've tastedof desire

I hold with those whofavor fire.

But if it had to perishtwice,

I think I know enoughof hate

To say that fordestruction iceIs also great

And would suffice.
