Volvo Wheel Loaders AB assumes that work with ourmachines follows the safety and work instructionsincluded in the Service manual and Operators manualfor the model in question.

Dismantling and recycling of machines shall be per-formed by personnel with sufficient knowledge, and ina professional manner in order to avoid personal injuryand environmental damage.

When national legislation is in place governing dismant-ling of machines, it is primarily this legislation that shallbe followed. This Recycling manual is only a supplementto the valid Service manual and Operators manual for

Volvo L150E, L180E and L220E, in order to be able totechnically sort different materials mainly included in themachines.

A Volvo wheel loader consists of metals to approx.80%. In general, metals are suitable for recycling. However, in certain cases the components design andinstallation may make recycling impossible, bothpractically and economically, despite the included the

    materials being recyclable by themselves.

One can distinguish 5 stepwhere one shall attempt tohigh up as possible.

There is a number of thought fractions in which to sortthe material. Examples of these may be according tothat below. Handling of these fractions is governed bynational legislation and local regulations, which shall befollowed.

Materials and components that can be reusedascomponents in old and/or new machines. These maybe in need of repairing or upgrading in order to fulfillquality requirements. For example, this may be engine, axles, transmission and hydraulic cylinders.

Materials that can be material recycled with or withoutloss of quality. Examples of material recyclingwithout

loss of quality are metals and certain plastics. Loss ofquality refers to, e.g., plastics that only can be given adark colour when material recycled.

Materials for energy extractionare, among others, unsorted plastics and oils.

Materials that have to be deposited come mainly fromfragmented and unsorted materials.

    Identifying the machines

This manual is only valid for the indicated models,Volvo L150E, L180E and L220E, see illustration belowfor identification marking. The machines have beenmanufactured in Sweden by Volvo Wheel Loaders AB

from the year 2000. The principal colour is yellow.

    Marking Standard

Using a marking system where all plastic parts aremarked with a material code, the materials are easy toidentify. Many materials can granulated and reused, while other plastics are used for energy extraction.

Certain plastics must be taken care of in a special wayor destroyed, through some form of pretreatment.

The Volvo standards that aremachine are: Std 5052,41 Identifica

    parts Std 5052,411 Symbols

The following are a few examples of what the marking may look like:>ABS< Part consisting of one material, in this case ABS-plastic

    >ABS+PC< Part consisting of a mix of two materials

    >PVC, PUR, ABS< Part consisting of 3 materials where PVC is the visible (coating)and PUR with inclusion of ABS. ABS is biggest by weight, underli

    Draining fluids

It is important that fluids are handled in a safe andcorrect manner, with regards to national legislation aswell as local regulations.Follow the instructions given in the Service manual and

The machines have three so-called ECUs (ElectronicControl Unit). Two are located in the cab, one on itsrear wall (1) and one in the instrument panel (3). Thethird one is located on the engine.

In the cab there is also a circuit board, an electricaldistribution box (2) with a number of relays and fuses.
