What are 2 ways to deal with solid waste?

• Waste management = control the outputs of the life cycle of a product by recycling and reusing

• Waste reduction = control the inputs of the life cycle of a product, by using less.

Where does out waste go?

• 54% = landfills• 13% = incinerated• 25% = recycled• 8% = composted

Where does Electronic waste usually go?

• Undeveloped countries = countries will less money and industry. – i.e. Undeveloped parts of China

Why do countries lie about recycling?

• Because they can make money from a small amount of valuable materials. • Workers recover a small amount of valuable metals from

the waste and the remainder is burned and dumped in landfills releasing toxic pollutants.

Which Law is supposed to prevent countries from sending waste dangerous waste to other countries?

• The international Basal Convention Law
