Discovery Schools Academy Trust

Our TrustDiscovery was formed as a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) in 2012, through the formalisation of a long-standing voluntary partnership between Kibworth CE Primary School and Parkland Primary School. These are the founding schools of our Trust.

Additional schools have elected to join our Trust by their own choice through the learning partnerships we offer. Currently thirteen schools are full members of DSAT with a fourteenth school working with us in a deep collaborative partnership. In addition, another school has chosen to join us, bringing our total expected number of schools to 14 from Autumn Term 2018.

Schools in our Trust are at various stages in their journeys towards excellence. One has been judged to be ‘Outstanding’ in their latest Ofsted reports, and others have identified outstanding features. Two schools are working their way out of significant challenges and are awaiting further inspections to confirm the substantial progress shown in their self-evaluations since joining DSAT. Our remaining current schools are all judged to be ‘Good’ overall. New schools joining us this year have inspection outcomes of ‘Good’ or are rapidly improving from a previous inspection judgement of ‘Requires Improvement’.

In order to develop the services and support we need, DSAT has developed a number of subsidiary partnerships to provide resources and support for our schools. The first one that was created is Affinity Teaching School Alliance a cohort 1 teaching school partnership of 57 schools across Leicestershire, Leicester City, Northamptonshire and Rutland.

This provides support for our school in terms of research and innovation, CPD for all staff, Leadership development and school improvement capacity. We then developed our own School

Pupil wellbeing is central to our vision and to ensure we are meeting the needs of our pupil we have set up Educational Psychology in Communities (EPIC) a traded service to support schools with diagnostic and development of provision for pupils. This spans a 50 school partnership across Leicestershire meeting the needs of all its schools in a context of a declining support services from the LA.

EPIC Speech and Language Therapy Services is a school led partnership established to meet the speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) of local children, families and schools. We pride ourselves on delivering holistic and functional therapeutic input on a person-centred basis alongside delivering high quality, effective training to both parents of and professionals working with pre-school and primary aged children. Through our work, our service aims to improve the wellbeing of the children and families that we work with and safeguard children’s mental health.

In 2013 Discovery launched Inspiring Leaders Teacher training SCITT in partnership with another MAT in Nottinghamshire. Our SCITT trains over 50 Primary Teachers per year through our high quality, school led training route. We offer aspirant teachers both qualified teacher status (QTS) and Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) which ensures that teachers who train with us access the best of both school and University learning.

Discovery Schools Academy Trust are strategic partners of the Inspiring Leaders group who are licensed to deliver the National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) at middle leadership, senior leadership, headship and executive headship level. Core to the DSAT designate programmes is accessing the equivalent NPQ programme with Inspiring Leaders.

Living & Working in Leicestershire

Recognised as Britain’s first Environment City and holder of the title European Sustainable City, Leicester is rich in green space, compact and unassumingly bashful. With a strong local economy and a wave of new developments transforming the once dilapidated industrial structures that contributed to the growth and success of the city as a powerful economic force, Leicester is an exciting place to be.

However, as often befits many towns and cities in the Midlands, Leicester’s unobtrusive character often shrouds its attractiveness as a desirable, cosmopolitan and modern city in which to live and work.

Arguably one of the most desirable city centre locations will soon be the redeveloped waterfront area. With one-third of the 3,500 new home development already completed, the Waterfront will consist of a number of new apartments, penthouses and studio accommodation alongside a retail development of cafes, restaurants and bars.

But if city living isn’t your thing, Aylestone, Evington, Great Glen, Knighton and Little Stretton are popular suburban areas, although prices sometimes err on the more expensive side.

Fans of sport will find much to interest them in and around Leicester, here they experience the electric atmosphere of The King Power Stadium, home of Championship club Leicester City FC as well as the city’s Rugby Union team, the Leicester Tigers and Leicestershire County Cricket Club.

But for the more energetic sports lover, the city boasts a number of public leisure centres, health and fitness clubs including leading names like David Lloyd, Living Well and Canon’s among others. Whereas nearby Rutland Water is popular for a range of water sports
