An Introduction From Andrew Lewis
Although we hope our dogs live a long, healthy and trouble-free life, the fact is its very likely your dog (and mine) is going to have some health issues over its life.
They could be good, like pregnancy, or more likely something
not as pleasant like arthritis or allergies. In this book, we’ve chosen 13 different scenarios we believe
most typically to occur in the life of your dog, where she/he will have special needs.
Add this book to your first-aid kit for use when the time comes
because nutrition needs change when the condition of the body changes… the healing from these recipes, mixed with your love will bring your dog the comfort you so wish to provide when you see the pain and discomfort of suffering.
Being prepared like this is all part of the EDO (Excellent Dog
Owner) philosophy. May your dog have a long and happy life,
Andy

Special Note
Regarding fruits and vegetables used in the recipes:
Rule 1: Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly. Rule 2: Do not peel fruits and vegetables, as these contain vitamins and minerals. The exception is of course bananas. Rule 3: Boiling or steaming vegetables is important so that the nutrients can be absorbed. This is because dogs do not chew their food adequately. The exception is carrot, but it can be grated. Rule 4: Do not include onions as an alternative because onions are harmful to canine red blood cells and too much can cause anaemia.
Guidance Concerning Calories and Sodium Values
In respect of the calorie and sodium counts, please consider these as approximate values in selecting the recipe and deciding the portions. It is suggested that labels are read and values are calculated as ingredients are chosen and used. Ingredients used are somewhat generic and items used will probably not match exactly what is used in the recipe, for example: meats might be lean or fatty; with or without skin; different cuts of meat (with varying calorie content). In our counts we aim to stay within the average range, keep in mind, however, that minor discrepancies can total to a big difference on the waistline.

General Guidance for Feeding Dogs
The table below can only act as a guideline for the food requirements of your dog. The amount of food and therefore calories required will be dependent on the age of your dog, its activity levels and its metabolism. The healthy weight of your dog is dependent also on the breed of dog and you should be advised by your vet. The tables below can only serve as a guide—common sense must prevail. Size of Dog Pounds Weight of Dog Cups of Food Each Day
Min Max Toy 2 to 10 ½ 2 Small 10 to 35 2 5 Medium 35 to 60 5 7 Large 60 to 90 7 9 Extra Large 90 and above 9 14½ Another way of looking at this information is as follows:

Calorie Requirement Equation
*Calorie chart is for your dog’s ideal weight. If your dog is overweight, please calculate with his target weight in mind.
**Note: If Percentage of Daily Calorie Requirement Met is greater than 100%, then it is more than one day’s worth of food.

Puppy Vaccination & Worming Schedule This schedule follows what is recommended by mainstream
veterinary medicine, however holistic veterinarians believe that we should not vaccinate puppies until they are weaned and then most certainly vaccinate them less frequently than a mainstream vet recommends.
We suggest you consult a holistic vet or speak to your regular
vet and ask them about blood testing for antibodies to be sure regular immunizations are necessary, because it has been shown and is increasingly recognized that antibodies can remain in the blood for up to three years making yearly vaccinations unnecessary and damaging to the dog’s immune system.

We all know that just like us, our pets have different personalities, preferences, tastes, and inclinations. They have issues just like us too, and sometimes it’s simply a matter of adjusting their diet to help address those needs.
This is why we have come up with many new recipes to address some of our beloved pet’s special needs. For example, they may be grumpy from an upset stomach or overweight from too many calories in their food, or sluggish because they are anemic or diabetic. We’ve also include recipes for pregnant and lactating dogs or puppies, anti-cancer recipes, low-fat meals to prevent heart disease, and many more.
If your dog has cancer, we highly recommend that you take a look at our Canine Cancer Secrets products here.

1. For the 1st feeding, combine baby cereal and milk with enough water to make a medium thin gruel.
2. Introduce mixture to puppies individually, aiding them in tasting as necessary. A small amount can be given to each on a saucer.
3. The 2nd day, feed the morning meal the same way. 4. With the afternoon meal, puppies can be fed from a communal
saucer. 5. After two full days of cereal only, you can begin mixing in puppy
food. Blend kibble in a food processor or blender until completely ground.
6. Mix 1/2 cup of the ground kibble into the cereal concoction, with enough warm water to keep it a medium thin gruel.
7. With each successive feeding, add a little more puppy food and a little less cereal.
8. By the end of two days of this, you should be feeding all ground puppy food with the milk and water.
9. After a full day of this, use only the ground dog food and water, eliminating the milk.
10. After two full days of this, ease up on the grinding of the puppy food, so it is a little coarser.
11. Gradually increase the amount of the puppy food and water mixture until the puppies are leaving some leftover, then cut back a bit.
12. Also, continue to gradually decrease the grinding until the puppies are eating whole kibble. You can continue to mix with water to provide a ”gravy."
