This was important for the owners, as it made the monitoring of the PV system cost-efficient and easy.At 93kWp, the Landwirtschaftliche Dienstleistungs GbR system is much larger than the typical German farm PV installation size of between 30 and 60 kW in Northern Germany.

The system is expected to generate 78 MW of electric-ity annually. Given the high output of the REC modules and the overall success of this system, the owners have begun an assessment for a second system on an-other building on the farm.

REC modules proved to be a smart investment for a German farm, now fully benefitting from the financial and tax advantages.

THIS FARM in a remote area of Northern Germany is equipped with a semi-automated PV surveillance system. In early 2008, the farm’s owners decided to install a photovoltaic solar system on one of the rooftops at the facility. Their aim was to generate a profit from the system, based on the available bank credits for stable investments, advantageous German feed-in tariff and tax benefits for PV sys-tems and the amounts of sunlight in the local area. In a challenging financial context, a safe return on investment was crucial for the decision to purchase a PV-plant. Working with installers from EWS GmbH & Co. KG, Landwirtschaftli-che Dienstleistungs GbR chose to develop a rooftop system with a package featuring 434 REC 215AE modules.

The system was installed on a 66m long rooftop. It is designed to be low-maintenance and managed remotely, with loggers installed to collect data from the inverters. The data loggers can be triggered via mobile phone and the data downloaded to a remote computer.

REC is a leading vertically integrated player in the solar energy industry. REC is among the world’s largest producers of polysilicon and wafers for solar applications, and a rapidly growing manufacturer of solar cells and modules. REC isalso engaged in project development activities in selected PV segments. Founded in Norway, REC is an international solar company, employing more than 4,200 people worldwide. REC had revenues close to NOK 14 billion in 2010.

“REC-Modules provide us with consistently high output. We are very happy about the decision to invest in REC modules and we are thinking about expansion.” BURKHARD LÜTH, CO-OWNER
