How did we get in this Mess?

2006 HB 1

Property tax roll back.

Lower property taxes were suppose to be offset by new business and sin

taxes.

They were not.

HB 1 will only make things worse over time.

e.g. not tied to inflation

What does this mean for AISD?

AISD CUTS

• Turning Point Elementary Closed

• Student Affairs Department Dissolved

• Success Program Eliminated (K-6)

• Jr. High Assistant Principals Reduced

• Guidance Tech Position Eliminated

• Two Kindergarten Aids Eliminated

• Assign high school teachers one additional teaching period

• Eliminate teaming at the junior high level• Delay IB implementation at Martin and Seguin

high schools• Eliminate printing of the Annual Wall Calendar

and School Boundary Map• Eliminate the UTA stadium rental• Eliminate contract mowing from the plant

services budget

• Dissolve the safe and drug-free schools/parent relations department

• Eliminate Convocation

• Reduce the district’s monthly contribution toward health insurance by $25 for professional employees and $10 for all other employees

• Eliminate a receptionist position per secondary campus

Potential Cuts

• Eliminate all teachers with probationary contracts. Some positions might be hired back depending on need

• Eliminate two coaches at each high school• Eliminate one fine arts teacher at each high

school• Eliminate all cafeteria monitors at the

elementary level• Eliminate three attendance officers• Eliminate three intervention specialists

Potential Cuts

• Eliminate fifth- and sixth-grade orchestra and sixth-grade band:

• Close Kooken Education Center

• Close one junior high

• Reduce teachers in grades K through 4 if the state legislature changes the 22:1 student-teacher ratio

• Reduction in force: As needed
