The half-brother to Group
1-winning sire Hallowed Crown
(Street Sense) by Arrowfield
Stud’s shuttler Shalaa
(Invincible Spirit), the last lot to be offered
in Book 1 of the Magic Millions National
Yearling Sale, last night sold for $360,000
to put an exclamation mark on another
show of the industry’s ability to defy wider
economic factors.
The supplementary entry, the highlight of
the unreserved dispersal of the late Eduardo
Cojuangco’s bloodstock interests, was
purchased by Andrew Williams Bloodstock
on behalf of a client of Victorian trainer Matt
Laurie who relied on the Sydney agent’s
evaluation of the colt before committing to
purchasing him. Continued on page 2>>

Also a half-brother to the now Aquis
Farm-based stallion Needs Further (Encosta De Lago) as well as Twin
Hills’ Hallowed Crown, the colt is the tenth living foal out of Crowned
Glory (Danehill), the Group 3 winner who was narrowly beaten in the
Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m).
Williams, bidding from the back of the Magic Millions auditorium
for Laurie and fellow agent Justin Bahen, was in no doubt that the colt
deserves to lead the Magic Millions National Sale honour roll.
“He’s got a stallion’s pedigree. He’s a horse who is a half-brother to
Golden Rose-Randwick Guineas horse (Hallowed Crown) who is also
from the family of Zabeel and we
thought he might be a three-year-old
style of horse,” he said.
“However, given he’s a Shalaa,
he has a bit of Invincible Spirit blood
there as well and, first and foremost,
I thought he was a ripping sort with
lovely size and scope and comes from
one of the great nurseries in Australia.”
Williams is a fan of the Shalaas
who have sold strongly at the southern
hemisphere yearling sales this year.
He said: “This is the first horse (I’ve
bought for Laurie) but because
of Covid reasons he was stuck
and couldn’t get up here, so he
relied on my fantastic videoing
and pictures. Matty’s over the
moon.
“He’s definitely an Easter style of colt, so God knows what he could
have made at that level and we put him in that bracket, so it’s great to
secure a style of horse like him.
“He’s going to go straight down to (Laurie’s) and go through orientation
and learn a bit more in new surroundings and go from there.”
Gooree Park group of companies business manager Jeanette
Tioseco believes Cojuangco would have been pleased to see such strong
competition on the Gooree-bred horses at yesterday’s sale.
“(Mr Cojuangco) has always made an impression… he has always
emphasised the quest for excellence, so am sure he would have been very
happy with that result,” Tioseco said.
“The family will continue his legacy of breeding good-quality, strong
horses. I must admit, I had to make sure that the horses go to good quality
farms. I think he would be happy.
“The farm remains in the family and we still have a few broodmares
and racehorses as well weanlings which hopefully some will be sold here
(at Magic Millions) in January.”

Colourful Snitzel filly joins Legend brigadeA Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) filly, the last foal out of champion
South African mare National Colour (National Assembly), was also
hotly contested before making $300,000 in a bittersweet moment for
her breeders which brought to an end their association with a highly
successful family.
On a day where buyers gravitated towards the better-credentialed
new season two-year-olds in which vendors were prepared to meet the
market to achieve a clearance rate of 75 per cent, there were 37 six-figure
lots at an average of $53,866, it was prominent Hong Kong-based owner
Bon Ho who made a splash on the Gold Coast via the phone, continuing
his large-scale investment in young stock this year.
Under the banner of Legend Racing, Ho bought the two highest-
priced yearlings yesterday, the session-topping Snitzel filly and a
$270,000 son of Dundeel (High Chaparral), who were both consigned
by Arrowfield Stud.
Ho was also a big-spender at the Magic Millions in January, buying
yearlings up to $650,000, and at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale
he purchased nine horses for a total of $4.35 million including the So You
Think (High Chaparral) half-brother to his star sprinter Classique Legend
(Not A Single Doubt) for $1.1 million.
The Snitzel filly hails from one of the most potent South African
families of recent years, being a three-quarter sister to South African
Grade 1 winners Rafeef (Redoute’s Choice) and Mustaaqeem (Redoute’s
Choice).
She was catalogued as Lot 1276 by Arrowfield Stud who has nurtured
the family of South Africa’s 2005-06 champion older female sprinter
National Colour who died in November 2018.
Arrowfield Stud bloodstock manager Jon Freyer admitted that it was a
difficult decision for the breeders to part with the filly.

“She is owned by Klawervlei Stud in
South Africa who are friends and partners of ours in a number of mares
and National Colour was a great race mare for them. She was a champion
in South Africa and she competed really well at Group 1 level in England
and she’s done an amazing job at stud,” Freyer told ANZ Bloodstock News.
“She’s had two Group 1-winning colts who were both bought by Angus
Gold for Sheikh Hamdan, and Rafeef had his first yearlings go through
the sale only a few days ago (in South Africa) and everyone was super
impressed with those.
“Having a filly out of that mare I think will be a great investment by
Bon Ho for many years to come.”
The well-credentialed Snitzel filly was entered for the Australian
Easter Yearling Sale in April, but was withdrawn by Arrowfield Stud after
the auction house initially moved to an online selling format due to
government restrictions imposed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Freyer said: “(Klawervlei Stud) were quite reluctant to put her through
given she’s the last chance to retain some of the family but with Covid and
the way things are in South Africa, they were reluctantly forced to meet the
market and sell her.
“She’s a grand filly with great quality and balance. She’s got lovely
depth to her. She’ll be a star two-year-old, I think.”
At the time of National Colour’s death, Klawervlei Stud’s John Koster
paid tribute to the grey mare.
“It’s very sad news for us.
National Colour was a beacon of
hope and excellence for Chris and
Erich van Niekerk, Sean Tarry and
Klawervlei,” Koster said.
“We mourn her passing and
we celebrate her brilliance as a
racehorse and broodmare. May
she gallop freely in the greenest
pastures, into eternity.”
The second purchase by Ho
was another new season two-year-old offered by Arrowfield Stud by the
farm’s exciting stallion Dundeel from the family of Group 1 winner Irish
Lights (Fastnet Rock) and Group 2 winner Omei Sword (High Chaparral).
Also a withdrawal from the Easter auction, the colt is the second foal
out of the winning Aspen Summit (Fastnet Rock) whose first foal, the
three-year-old Solar Apex (Deep Impact), ran on strongly to finish third
on debut at Gosford on July 25 for trainer Chris Waller. Consigned by
Arrowfield Stud, he was catalogued as Lot 1402.
Ho’s decision to buy at the National sale continues the strong
international investment by a number of parties at the Gold Coast auction
which saw Coolmore and Yulong figure at the top of the broodmare
market last week.

“Bon Ho has obviously been a great
client to us this year,” Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said.
“He has a liking to the sale here and a liking to the product we are
selling, he is buying the right type of horse at the right end of the market
and we wish him the best of luck with them.”
The figures achieved at the Book 1 sale once again surprised many
vendors and not least Bowditch after 191 yearlings changed hands.
“We are seriously pleased with how today went, given what is going on
in the world and it’s the last yearling sale of the season and obviously not
being able to have any internationals here on the ground or Victorians or
Sydney people, it was mission impossible going into it,” he said.
“So, to pull it off and the fact it statistically matches up with (the 2019
sale) and a clearance rate that is up on last year and an average that is
comparable and a higher median - it is a fantastic result.
“Full credit to the agents and the Magic Millions team, who have gone
out and done their work on the catalogue and called a lot of people and
engaged with a lot of people who were not able to attend. You could see
today they were participating on a lot of horses, which was fantastic to see.
“You’ve only got to look at the results, there was a huge spread of
buyers, no one dominated the market. Having the drafts of Baramul and
Arrowfield as the headline act and it makes a good sale to market and we
are coming out with great results for our vendors.”
Ho was the leading buyer while New Zealand agent Bevan Smith was
also active, purchasing four horses for a total of $437,500.
Arrowfield Stud was the leading vendor, selling 15 yearlings (two-
year-olds) for a total of $1.72 million.
“This is an important sale for the industry as it is the last shot to sell these
horses as yearlings and for the buyers it is the last chance they have to buy
horses that are eligible to compete on Magic Millions day,” Bowditch said.
“But for the vendors that have stuck by us and to come out the other
side with a healthy market and kudos to them for meeting the market -
they have been realistic and I am pleased to have found home for a lot of
these horses.”

Neasham to train Baramul-bred I Am Invincible colt
Meanwhile, the training career of the Sydney-based Annabel
Neasham also received a boost yesterday with the purchase of an I Am
Invincible (Invincible Spirit) colt for $260,000.
Assistant trainer to Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Neasham last
month revealed her intention to take out her on licence and train from
a 40-box barn at Warwick Farm being leased by Aquis Farm at Warwick
Farm.
The bidding was handled by Aquis Farm managing director Shane
McGrath who signed for the Baramul Stud-bred and sold colt who was
catalogued as Lot 1330.
“We’re going to give Annabel every opportunity and it’s obviously
an exciting phase in her career and I think any trainer in the land would
be delighted to see a colt like that by I Am Invincible arrive in the yard,”
McGrath said.
“We’ll get him back into our system, get him broken in before he goes
to Annabel who has done a tremendous job over the past couple of years.
“The mare herself Serious Speed was a high-class galloper and I Am
Invincible is the best stallion she’s visited. He’s a lovely colt, he was well
found and we’ve had a bit of luck buying off Baramul in the past.
“We bought Kumasi at the sales here last year and he’s a horse
with Gerald Ryan we have high hopes for in the spring and we’re all
indebted to Gerry Harvey for his
contribution to the racing and
breeding industry, so it’s lovely
when you find a nice colt and
you’re able to purchase him.”
The I Am Invincible colt is
the seventh living foal out of
MRC Thousand Guineas (Gr 1,
1600m) winner Serious Speed
(Royal Academy), who has
produced two winners.
Neasham will also train
another Baramul Stud-bred and sold colt who made $150,000 yesterday
after initially being passed in.
Catalogued as Lot 1410, the colt is the fourth foal out of the six-time
New Zealand winner Bellapin (Pins), herself a daughter of the Listed
winner and Group 1-performed Dazzling Belle (Desert Sun) and a half-
sister to the Group 3 winner Magic Dancer (Rip Van Winkle).
“To get two colts like this by I Am Invincible and Snitzel coming into
my stable in my first year is the dream,” Neasham said.
“I am getting some good support from some great people, particularly
from Aquis. But these horses will be syndicated. As a new trainer you hope
to make a really strong start and I think you are

Updated daily, the information on each stallion includes; top performer, recent race &
auction results, upcoming race entries, sire statistics, hypothetical pedigrees with Truenicks
judged in your first couple of years and it
certainly helps if you’ve got well-bred stock in the stable. I have been so
lucky to work for Ciaron with bluebloods in Sydney in the last couple of
years and we have had great success.
“I have worked with a lot of Snitzels and Vinnies and there is a reason
why they are doing so well, they have got great temperaments and they
are very trainable and you can’t really go wrong buying them, particularly
if they are out of good mares, like these both are.”
Schweida takes shine to son of ShalaaSuccessful Brisbane trainer Kelly Schweida was happy to take heed
of the advice from leading breakers about the prospects of Shalaa by
securing a colt by the shuttler on day one of the National Yearling Sale for
$240,000.
“I tried to buy some in January and they were too dear. There’s been
good raps from the breakers about them and he is a nice horse,” said
Schweida who bought four lots yesterday.
“The owner who bought him will take him along slowly and we will
see how he goes.”
Offered by Valiant Stud on behalf of Fitzwood Pty Ltd, he is a half-sister
to two winners and the fourth foal out of Lonoree (Lonhro), a half-sister
to Listed winner Fleet (Dehere) and Negotiate (Red Ransom), herself the
dam of Group 1-winning sprinter Secret Agenda (Not A Single Doubt).
Also yesterday, a colt by Medaglia d’Oro (El Prado), the sire of this
year’s Hong Kong Derby (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Golden Sixty, will head to
the Asian racing hub after being secured for $230,000 early in the session.
The colt was bought by Cheung Shun Ching.
Consigned by KBL Thoroughbreds as Lot 1220, the colt is the third foal
out of the unraced Isstoora (High
Chaparral), a half-sister to the
stakes-placed Mujaan (Fastnet
Rock). He was an $80,000 Magic
Millions National Weanling Sale
by Victoria Peak Bloodstock from
the Kitchwin Hills draft.
The final National sale
session starts at 10am today with
the Book 2 yearlings followed
by the Gooree and racehorse
auctions which features a strong
draft from Godolphin.

Victorian racing given green lightDespite Victoria going into stage four lockdown
restrictions, racing in the state has been given
the green light by the government to continue
under stricter biosecurity protocols. “It
continues because it's a very low risk activity,”
Victorian premier Daniel Andrews said. “There
are changes though, there will be no owners,
there will be no media, there will be only
broadcasters and direct participants involved
in that activity. There are some significant
animal welfare issues if you were to try to turn
that industry off. It’s a compromise, I am sure
some in that industry won’t be pleased it has
been scaled back further, but we think we have
struck the right balance there.’’
Melody set for Missile
Star New Zealand mare Melody Belle
(Commands) will make her return to the races
in Saturday’s Missile Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at
Rosehill. The nine-time Group 1 winner is the
highest-rated runner in the field but Jamie
Richards believes she is not yet at her peak
fitness. "I think she's going to run a nice race but
as she's gotten older, she's tended to need a run
so we want her to run well and come through
to make sure we're ready to do our very best
in the Winx Stakes second-up," Richards told
Racing.com. "She appears to be in good shape.
I was pleased with her trial the other day and
the exhibition gallop she had a couple of weeks
before that, so I believe she's forward enough to
run a nice race."
Snowdens' new-season 3YOs set to strikePeter and Paul Snowden are set to unveil the
first of their new-season three-year-olds when
stakes racing kicks off for the term at Rosehill on
the weekend. The Snowdens have nominated
Blue Diamond Prelude (Gr 3, 1100m) runner-
up Rulership (I Am Invincible) and Rule Of Law
(Snitzel) for Saturday's The Rosebud (Listed,
1100m), the first three-year-old stakes race
of the Sydney season. The stable is also set to
have a hand in the Missile Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m)
with Hightail (Written Tycoon) and Ramornie
Handicap (Listed, 1200m) winner Signore Fox
(Exceed And Excel) among the 16 entries. The pair

3, 1200m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Tagaloa wins Cranbourne jump-outReigning Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m)
winner Tagaloa (Lord Kanaloa) had his first
major hit-out as he prepares for the spring
yesterday, winning an 800-metre jump-out at
Cranbourne. The Trent Busuttin and Natalie
Young-trained three-year-old was quickly
away from an inside barrier and led the field
from point to post under a hard hold from Blue
Diamond-winning jockey Michael Walker.
Young indicated that Tagaloa would kick-off his
campaign in the McNeil Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at
Caulfield on August 29 and the stable will later
decided whether he then heads to the Golden
Rose Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) in Sydney or the
Caulfield Guineas Prelude (Gr 2, 1400m) before
his main target in the Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1,
1600m).
Rosehill hit-out for Nature StripChris Waller’s star sprinter Nature Strip
(Nicconi) is set for his first public appearance
ahead of the spring in a 900-metre trial at
Rosehill this morning. Also set to step out from
the Waller camp are spring Group 1 contenders
Funstar (Adelaide), Verry Elleegant (Zed),
Finche (Frankel) and Toffee Tongue (Tavistock)
among others. Click here to view the full fields
of today’s Rosehill trials.
Farnan on track for spring assignmentsGolden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner
Farnan (Not A Single Doubt) is on track for
his spring assignments. Aquis Farm managing
director Shane McGrath said the now three-
year-old is about a week away from trialling
and detailed what his spring program looks
like. "He'll probably go first-up in the Run To
The Rose, and that's Hugh Bowman's first day
back after suspension, and then his options
open up," McGrath told Racing.com. "After his
first-up run in the Run To The Rose, we'll have a
look at races like the Golden Rose (1400m), The
Everest (1200m) or later for the Coolmore (Stud
Stakes, 1200m). There are so many options
with those good horses. Hugh is adamant
that he'll get seven furlongs (1400m) and Gai
(Waterhouse) and Adrian (Bott) feel the same.
The way he ran through the line in the Slipper,
you'd think seven furlongs is no problem."

Moody eyeing spring assaultPeter Moody might have only been back
among the training ranks for a short period
of time, but he has managed to add some
Group class horses to his team including
Makybe Diva Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) winner
Gatting (Hard Spun), multiple Perth Group
placegetter The Velvet King (Universal
Ruler) and Champagne Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m)
runner-up Glenfiddich (Fastnet Rock). "The
plan is, all being well, him (Gatting) and The
Velvet King, (to) probably run in the Memsie
(Stakes) and that will dictate their form from
there," Moody told Racing.com. "They will
run around in feature races because they're
110-raters." On Glenfiddich, Moody said:
“He's a lovely horse, a great type of horse.
He seems to be coming up nicely. We will
give him his chance to build on that last-start
Group 1 if his ability suggests to us that he
warrants it."
Corstens gives spring updateA tilt at the Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m)
could be on the cards for the twice-raced
Ranting (Zoustar) after he pleased connections
with a trial success at Flemington on Friday.
The colt finished third in the Breeders Stakes
(Gr 3, 1200m) back in April and co-trainer
Troy Corstens said: "He was excellent, he did a
fantastic job, he won his trial quite nicely and
he's ready to kick off in a maiden at Sale or
Geelong. A Caulfield Guineas might be up his
alley, it will be nice to try and find out over the
next two months." Spring targets are also on
the horizon for stablemate Swats That (Shamus
Award) following her trial success. “She was
excellent, she won her trial nicely with her head
on her chest," Corstens continued. "They didn't
run time, but the way she did it was quite good,
so it looks quite promising for her and she'll
trial again in two weeks. She's a filly that we'll
see go deep into the Spring.”
First foal for U S Navy FlagRiversdale Farm in the Hunter Valley
welcomed the first southern hemisphere foal
by three-time Group 1 winner U S Navy Flag
(War Front) yesterday morning, a colt out
of Parmalove (Snitzel). The Valachi Downs
shuttle stallion, who won the Middle Park
Stakes (Gr 1, 6f ) and the Dewhurst Stakes
(Gr 1, 7f ) as a two-year-old before adding the
July Cup (Gr 1, 6f ) against the older horses
at three, served 150 mares in his first season
in New Zealand in 2019. “The U S Navy
Flag – Parmalove foal born around 2.30am
this morning is a very nice foal,” Riversdale
owner Nick Hodges said. “He has good bone
and size. He was straight up and on the suck
quickly, which is what we like to see. We look
forward to seeing how he develops.”
Second Darwin Cup to IhtsahymnHardy veteran Ihtsahymn (Ihtiram) made
it two Darwin Cups (2050m) in consecutive
years after taking the Top End’s feature once
more yesterday. The ten-year-old, trained by
Rob Gulberti, took victory by a half-length
over Paghman (Ilovethiscity), with Ash Grey
(Wanted) the same margin away in third.
Seven years after winning the Kingston Town
Classic (Gr 1, 1800m) at Ascot as a three-year-
old, Ihtsahymn has become noted for his
longevity and his toughness. “He’s such a star,
the horse,” Gulberti told Sky Racing. “We were
really struggling to get him sound. We went
to the Metric Mile and got through and we’ve
been working on him since then – icing his feet
and doing everything we need to do. He just
lifted off the canvas and won today. He’s just an
amazing animal and he’s put himself into the
history books.”
Maiden win for ShotmakerShotmaker (Shooting To Win), runner-
up in the 2018 Blue Diamond Prelude (Gr
3, 1100m), finally broke through for his
first win when scoring over 1100 metres at
Wodonga yesterday. The now gelding had
not been seen at the races since a failed
Caulfield Guineas campaign last spring, but
his dominant two and three-quarter length
victory will now see him take on metropolitan
grade. "There's no real expectation, but he's
definitely a horse that will go to town now,"
co-trainer Michael Kent Jnr told Racing.
com. "He's got that kind of ability and class.
We won't be setting sight too high just yet.
The main thing was to get the maiden out of
the way today."
Tabcorp hit by coronavirusTabcorp yesterday revealed the impact of the
Covid-19 pandemic on its business with the
betting company predicting its net profit for
the financial year to tumble by more than 30
per cent to a figure of between $267 million
and $273 million. "Covid-19 has materially
impacted our wagering and media and gaming
services businesses," Tabcorp's managing
director and CEO, David Attenborough, said in
a statement. "We are facing into a challenging
and uncertain environment, and the current
operating conditions and those expected into
the future are relevant factors in assessing the
value of the goodwill in those businesses at this
time."
Sargent fined, Wagga Cup winner disqualifiedTrainer John Sargent was yesterday fined
$6,000 and House of Cartier (Alamosa)
disqualified from her win in the Wagga Cup
(Listed, 2000m) after a post-race sample from
the mare was found to contain a prohibited
substance. Racing NSW handed out the
punishments after a urine sample taken
following the race at Wagga Wagga on May 1
showed the presence of the muscle relaxant
4-hydroxy xylazine. The inquiry was unable
to establish the reasons for the detection of
the substance and Sargent pleaded not guilty
to the charge. He was however found guilty
by stewards of a breach of rule AR240(1)
which resulted in Maurus (Medicean) being
declared the new winner, with Master Of Arts
(Mastercraftsman) and High Opinion (Lord
Jim) filling the minor placings.
Baker and Schofield penalised for Covid breachesBjorn Baker and Glyn Schofield were both hit
with fines yesterday after posing for a post-race
selfie which breached Racing NSW's Covid-
related social distancing rules. Baker was fined
$4,000 and Schofield $2,000 after the winning
combination posed for a photo for the trainer’s
Twitter account with their arms around each
other’s shoulders following the win by Off Shaw
(Tobique) in the final race at Randwick on
Saturday.

NEW ZEALAND
Book full for Ocean ParkWaikato Stud’s Dewar Award winner Ocean Park
(Thorn Park) has the full house sign up with no
further bookings available for the 2012 Cox Plate
(Gr 1, 2040m) conqueror. Ocean Park is coming off
his best season to date, winning the Dewar Award
for champion New Zealand-based sire on total
progeny earnings in New Zealand and Australia
combined. He was represented by Group 1
winners Tofane, who took the All Aged Stakes (Gr
1, 1400m), and Kolding, whose Epsom Handicap
(Gr 1, 1600m) victory was eclipsed by his triumph
in the inaugural Golden Eagle (1500m). Ocean
Park also has Oceanex guaranteed a berth in the
Melbourne Cup through her win in the Andrew
Ramsden Stakes (Listed, 2800m) earlier this year.
Ocean Park had been available for NZ$20,000
(plus GST), having served 153 mares in 2019.
Vale Emma EvansEmma Evans didn’t get the send-off her long-
time trainer Wayne Hillis had hoped to provide
for her at Matamata on Saturday, but she will
be long remembered for her involvement in
the racing industry as a passionate owner and
breeder. Evans’ Group 2 winner Watch This
Space (Elusive City), who finished eighth on
Saturday, is one of the many horses she has
raced, tracing back to the family from which
she has been breeding from for 35 years. It all
began for Evans with Watch This Space’s third
dam, May Be Great (Crested Wave), whom
she inherited from her aunt, May Wilson,
when she died in 1985. Watch This Space’s
second dam Label Basher (Conquistarose)
was named Broodmare of the Year in 2008-09,
primarily for the exploits of Group 1 winner
Dezigna (Volksraad) - who gave Evans her
most memorable day when taking out the 2008
Captain Cook Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) - as well as
the Group 1-placed Izonit (Volksraad).
Sir Charles Road eyes Sydney featuresGroup 1-performed stayer Sir Charles Road was
back in action at the Te Rapa trials last week,
where he finished sixth in a 900-metre heat
under a quiet ride. The seven-year-old gelding
has performed well in Sydney previously and
finished third in both The Metropolitan (Gr 1,
2400m) and the ATC St Leger (2600m) and a
similar program will be followed this term. “He’ll
head back to Sydney and target the same sort of
races as last season, hopefully the Metropolitan,”
co-trainer Lance O’Sullivan said. “He looks great
and he is coming up really well. He did a fair bit of
pre-training at David Archer’s (owner) place and
we’re happy with him.”
Dragon Leap potentially a miler with Hong Kong on the radarTalented four-year-old Dragon Leap (Pierro)
will step out at the Rotorua trials on Thursday
and last season’s winner of both the Avondale
Guineas (Gr 2, 2100m) and Auckland Guineas
(Gr 2, 1600m) is likely to be aimed at races like
the Epsom Handicap and the Golden Eagle this
preparation, after having his stamina reserves
tested when fourth in the New Zealand Derby
(Gr 1, 2400m). “He is going to trial on Thursday
and he will just jog around and finish in the
second half of the field,” co-trainer Lance
O’Sullivan said. “He is developing but he has
still got a wee way to grow believe it or not. He is
still bum high but he is doing well. The owners
want to qualify him for Hong Kong under the
replacement permit of 85 and despite winning
the two Guineas races he hasn’t met that
rating. We have got him for his spring racing
and then after that we will reassess. They are
terrific owners to work for and they don’t put
any pressure on us and they let us decide the
program. They are very easy to train for.”
Auckland Racing Club announces season’s stakesThe Auckland Racing Club (ARC) has
announced that it will be increasing stakes
above minimum levels for this season by
contributing close to $1 million of its own
money. “It gives the Club great satisfaction to
be able to offer stakes top-ups for this season,”
ARC chief executive Paul Wilcox said. “First and
foremost, we are a racing club and everything
we do is with an eye on maximising our returns
to stakeholders. While we have topped-up
stakes to around this level for the past three
seasons, I am thrilled that we have been able
to achieve this again for the 2020-21 season,
particularly after the difficulties the last few
months have posed for us all. I seriously cannot
wait to get this new season off and racing at
Ellerslie and am delighted that our club has
been able to once again make this commitment
to industry participants.”

in a novice contest of seven furlongs at Haydock
yesterday. Group 1 winner Territories stands
at Darley’s Kelvinside property in the Hunter
Valley for a fee of $11,000 (inc GST) in 2020.
Eight for Sir PrancealotCornerstone Stud shuttler Sir Prancealot
(Tamayuz) sired his eighth individual stakes
winner when Miss Amulet (2 f ex Sheena’s
Dream by Oasis Dream) ran on to land the
Marwell Stakes (Listed, 5f ) at Naas yesterday.
The Ken Condon-trained filly overcame
trouble in running to post a second win in
five starts as she got the better of favourite
Frenetic (Kodiac) by a cosy three-quarters
of a length. Measure Of Magic (Kodi Bear)
was a further length and a quarter away in
third. Miss Amulet is the fourth foal out of
the winning Oasis Dream (Green Desert)
mare Sheena’s Dream, who herself is out of
a half-sister to Arlington Million (Gr 1, 10f )
winner Mill Native (Executive Native). Grade
1 winning sire Sir Prancealot will stand at

Melbourne Cup the aim for Get ShirtyFrench trainer Christophe Ferland in
considering a trip to Australia and a tilt at the
Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) with Get Shirty
(Teofilo) after the four-year-old landed his first
stakes win when taking out the Prix du Carrousel
(Listed, 3000m) at Deauville on Saturday. The
gelding has flourished since stepping up in trip,
with two victories sandwiching a third at Group
2 level behind leading Cup contender San
Huberto (Speightstown). "He is a lovely horse
- he's proved, over a long distance, he's really
good,” Ferland told At The Races. “We'll discuss
with Christophe (Soumillon, jockey) if he can
go further - but my idea, if Covid-19 lets us
travel, he's a horse I'd like to send to Australia
for the Melbourne Cup."
Tattersalls release catalogue for August SaleRichard Hannon and Cheveley Park Stud's

going through the ring between August 24
and 26 in a sale which features 541 colts and
geldings in/out of training, 214 fillies in/out
of training and 19 broodmares. Very similar
in format to July Sale, the new Tattersalls
August Sale has been introduced in response
to Covid-19 related circumstances which both
vendors and purchasers have encountered, and
has attracted significant consignments from
the likes of Ballydoyle Stables, Godolphin and
Juddmonte Farms.
Auction houses announce new steroid policyTattersalls and Goffs are to introduce new
restrictions relating to the use of corticosteroids
and bronchodilators, including Clenbuterol, for
all yearlings, and horses in and out of training
including Breeze Up two year olds, sold at sales
conducted by the two sales houses. The new
restrictions will be introduced with effect from
the start of the UK and Irish yearling sales season
beginning on September 1. The new conditions
of sale will allow buyers to have post-sale testing
for corticosteroids and bronchodilators, with a
positive test for undeclared use of corticosteroids,
or any trace of bronchodilators resulting in the
subject horse being returnable to the vendor at
the option of the purchaser. The new conditions
are in addition to long standing restrictions on the
use of anabolic steroids and non-steroidal anti-
inflammatories, as well as the ban on the use of
Bisphosphonates introduced in 2019.

If recent history is any guide, then
Western Australian galloper Gatting
faces a monumental task to repeat his
Eastern seaboard debut in the Group 1
Maybe Diva (Craiglee) Stakes win in tomorrow’s
Group 1 Underwood Stakes at Caulfield.
Not only does the son of Hard Spun have
to defy the usually huge odds against longshot
winners repeating, he’d become just the third
horse in 30 years to complete the double; 25
have tried and only Weekend Hussler (2008)
and Northerly (2002) have been successful.
Furthermore, none the past ten Craiglee
Stakes winners has managed to win another race
during the spring which is verily dumbfounding
and must cast some doubt over its Group 1 status
in a Melbourne carnival which, ridiculously, has
six Group 1 races from 1600 metres to 2040 metres
in about as many weeks.
In contrast, the Group 2 Feehan Stakes
— won this year by Homesman — has been a
much better portent of things to come through
the balance of the spring carnival.
Six of the past ten Feehan winners have
won again in the coming weeks. The exceptions
include Rekindled Interest and Whobegotyou,
who were later placed in Cox Plates, and Magic
Consol who didn’t race again that year.
Four of the past five Underwood Stakes
winners have come via the Feehan including,
of course, Homesman who won last year after
finishing second in the Moonee Valley race and
he looks a superior horse in 2019.
Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman won
the 2017 Underwood with four-year-old mare
Bonneval [who’d won the Feehan] and they
saddle another four-year-old, this time male,
in The Chosen One — who looks the principal
danger to Homesman.
The follow-up form of major race winners
is something of a fascination and generally less
impressive than you might think. Examining
the two major races at Caulfield last Saturday is
interesting.
Begood Toya Mother was a fast and
spectacular winner of the Rupert Clarke Stakes
albeit with a “fired up” Iconoclasm providing
him with some unexpected cover.
Begood Toya Mother is now expected to be
spelled. Moment Of Change, a low weighted
Rupert Clarke winner like Begood Toya Mother,
is the only victor in recent memory [certainly in
the past ten years] to have had an immediate
break and he returned to run second to Black
Caviar in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes and then
went on to win a brace of Group 1 races.
Trust In A Gust and Stratum Star are the
only Rupert Clarke winners, in the past ten
years, to score again that spring - taking the
Group 1 Toorak Handicap and Group 3 Coongy
Handicap respectively.
Similarly, last weekend’s Group 3
Naturalism Stakes has produced just two
subsequent springtime winners in the past
decade; Jameka who went on to win the Group
1 Caulfield Cup and December Draw who won
the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes before failing in
the Caulfield Cup.

Lindsey Smith has pulled off
a remarkable training feat by
managing to rejuvenate the
once retired Black Heart Bart
(Blackfriars) to win his sixth Group 1 race and
second Underwood Stakes (1800m) - three
years on from his first victory in the Caulfield
feature.
Western Australian Smith took over the
Warrnambool stables once owned by Black
Heart Bart’s disqualified trainer Darren Weir
and was asked by the horse’s owners to attempt
to resurrect the nine-year-old gelding’s career.
Smith conceded that he was not overly
confident that Black Heart Bart would make
it back to the races until an encouraging
Cranbourne barrier trial effort last month.
"Before he trialled I started to doubt, but
then he trialled well," Smith said.
"His first race was good and then his second
run was plain, but we thought getting him up to
the 1800 metres would be good as he wouldn't
be chasing all the time.
"It's a good result." Continued on page 2>>

MORNING BRIEFING
Dunn gets job doneon RenewalWayne Hawkes believes the key to Renewal’s
Listed win was Dwayne Dunn not panicking
despite being last and a long way off the leader
Zoustyle. "He had a terrible run in transit but
the biggest thing was Dwayne didn't panic,"
Hawkes said. "He just saved it to the last little
bit and he hit the line well." Zoustyle’s trainer
Tony Gollan was ruing the fact that his smart
sprinter missed the stakes win by such a narrow
margin. "It's a big learning curve for him. It's his
first trip away and this was his first time racing
the Melbourne way of going,” Gollan said. "I
think it's important if I can just keep him in his
right grade I can keep him progressing along.
We won't aim too high I don't think at this
stage. And I think if we come back this time
next year we're going to have a bona fide Group

Black Heart Bart ($101) held off last
year's winner, the $2.50 favourite Homesman (War Front), to win by a
short neck.
Fellow Warrnambool-trained veteran Gailo Chop (Deporvito) ($26)
was one and a half lengths away in third.
The Blackfriars (Danehill) gelding ran eighth first-up in the Memsie
Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) behind his new stablemate Scales Of Justice (Not A
Single Doubt), before running 11th in last week’s Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes
(Gr 1, 1400m) behind Begood Toya Mother (Myboycharlie).
"Even though those two runs might have looked a bit plain, he was
warming up and I've been happy with him," jockey Brad Rawiller said.
"Today, the whole way through the run I was thinking 'geez, we're
going to be in this'."
It was Black Heart Bart’s first win since the 2017 Futurity Stakes (Gr
1, 1400m). He was retired by Weir and his owners almost 12 months ago
after finishing well back in last year’s Toorak Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m).
An emotional Rawiller, the long-time rider of Black Heart Bart, was
delighted to see the gelding return to Group 1 winning form.
It also capped Rawiller’s own comeback from a broken neck which
almost ended his career, having been kept on the sidelines for nearly six
months after being seriously injured last October.
"I've won a Golden Slipper and a Caulfield Cup and I never looked like
getting teary, and I'm nearly in tears," he said.
"It's just amazing. I can't put it into words. Since coming back from my
broken neck it's been a long road.
"At the end of the day I haven't had much to look forward to as far as
rides for the spring and Black Heart Bart was always just my sole focus.
"I've been really happy with how he has been coming along.
"Last week after the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes when I was asked about
him, I said 'he lit the fire today'. But you've still got to see it.
"I'm still overwhelmed myself, to be honest, even though I thought he
could win today."

Everest-bound filly Sunlight (Zoustar)
closed strongly late to finish the same distance away in third with Ian
McEwen Stakes winner Faatinah (Nicconi) another short-head further
back in fourth.
Waller admitted after the race that the horse gets a lot of negative
attention, but this win might put a stop to the bad press.
"He's a popular horse," Waller joked. "We seem to get more criticism
with him than we ever got with
another certain horse [Winx]
who was probably our last Group
1 winner here.
"That's racing, everyone has
got their opinions. He's a good
horse and today he stepped away
well. James didn't panic he just
got there gradually and it was a
good race.
"You think punters get
frustrated, well owning a horse
and training a horse when you're
running in these types of races,
it's a bitter pill to take when you
don't quite get it right.
"So I think it's a good reward to everybody and I hope the punters had
something on as well and got a bit back from last start when apparently I
did everything wrong."
Waller hopes Nature Strip secures a spot in the $14 million Everest at
Randwick on October 19 and the gelding will now head to the Schillaci
Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) at Caulfield on October 12 - the winner of that race
will represent the Melbourne Racing Club in the $14 million sprint a week
later.
"I don't think 1200 metres is a problem," Waller said. "I'd say we'll just
see what unfolds in the next few days. If he doesn't get an invite for The
Everest I guess the Schillaci Stakes is the logical choice."
Meanwhile, trainer Shaun Dwyer said Miss Leonidas ran a great race
while Sunlight's co-trainer Tony McEvoy could not hide his delight over
the mare's performance.
McEvoy said he would run Sunlight the Gilgai Stakes at Flemington,
two weeks before The Everest at Randwick.
"I'm pumped," McEvoy said. "I feel like I've won the race.
"The risk was the 1000 meters tonight and that's all that cost her the
race."
Passed in for $90,000 (reserve $120,000) at the 2016 Inglis Melbourne
Premier Yearling Sale, Nature Strip (5 g Nicconi - Strikeline by Desert Sun)
took his record to 11 wins and two placings from 18 starts for prize-money
of $1,879,285.

The first four races taken out in
quick succession by the same
owner and trainer combination
would be unheard of at Kranji, but
to have the first two ringing up the trainer’s
600-win milestone makes the feat even more
remarkable.
Pun fully intended, Mark Walker, the trainer
in question, was helped towards that new
landmark by the Remarkable Stable, who race
the winning quartet What You Like (Savabeel),
I Am Sacred (I Am Invincible), Sacred Don
(Fastnet Rock) and Savvy Command (Savabeel).
The rampant combination went on to
make it an amazing fifth win on the board four
races later with the aptly-named $21 favourite
Amazing Choice (Shocking) in the $30,000
Class 5 Division 2 race over 1200 metres.
The exploit may have not have felt as
momentous as Walker’s 500th Singapore
winner in November, 2018 when he landed his
first Singapore Gold Cup (Listed, 2000m) win
with Elite Invincible (Archarcharch), but the
Kiwi trainer was just as proud, especially after
the middle pin I Am Sacred brought up the next
century on Sunday.
“It’s a great result, but what you really need
to get where we are now is good staff behind
you and nobody’s better than (assistant trainer)
Gus Clutterbuck,” said Walker, who won his
third Singapore champion trainer title last year.
“The Remarkable Stable is made up of New
Zealand friends. I set it up early when I came to
Singapore and my children Xavier and Alexis even
designed the black and white checked colours.
“They never really got used until the
Remarkable Stable came back into play when I
leased the Raffles Racing Stable horses to them.”
Longshot What You Like (formerly known
as Atlantic Fox) was the first to begin the
Walker-Remarkable onslaught when he sprang
a $119 surprise in the opener, the $30,000 Class
5 Division race over 1200 metres. The seven-
year-old was finally opening his Singapore
account at his 22nd start after coming up as a
two-time winner in Australia.
With What You Like full of running and
nowhere to go at the 200 metres, Walker’s
apprentice jockey Ng Choon Kiat had to duck
his mount sharply to the inside fence for his
run, railing through to cruelly deny trainer
Saimee Jumaat of a first 2020 win by defeating
Stardice (O’Reilly) by a neck, with From The
Navy (Hinchinbrook) third another half-length
away. The winning time was 1min 12.6secs for
the 1200 metres on the Polytrack.
“This horse is a bit of an enigma. Maybe the
break after his bleeding has done him a world
of good, but he’s not a horse you would play
cards with,” said Walker.
On 599 wins, Walker had three cards to hit
the target in the next race, the $75,000 Restricted
Maiden race over 1200 metres on turf – all three
debutants, and it was again the chessboard silks
of Remarkable Stable who checkmated through
$17 shot I Am Sacred.
Sent straight to the lead by Juan Paul van der
Merwe from his low draw, the four-year-old had
the favourite Commodore (Per Incanto) and
stablemate Entertainer (Zoustar) for company
for most of the way, before detaching himself in
the home straight to go and beat Commodore
by three and a quarter lengths, with Entertainer
third, another length away. The winning time
was 1min 10.62secs for the 1200 metres.
“The inside gate helps a lot if you’re a horse
who goes on the speed and you’re on the Short
Course A,” said Walker.
“He’s a horse who had good form in Sydney
(Newcastle) with a second and third and has
done well since he came to us.
“I was worried with his barrier manners,
but he was very good. It was Speedy Missile
who reared up and proved difficult, he was
at the rear, but he ran on late (seventh), and
Entertainer ran well, too.”
Then came the two unexpected cherries on
the top, Sacred Don ($51) in the $50,000 Class
4 Division 1 race over 1200 metres on Polytrack

and another newcomer Savvy Command ($39)
in the $75,000 Restricted Maiden Division 2
race over 1200 metres.
Both had to contend with plenty of pressure
as they went vying for the lead, especially Sacred
Don who had to work overtime from his wide
alley, but to their credit, they defied all the odds to
finish at the thicker end of the prize-money.
Instead of wilting, as he would have been
entitled to after his torrid run out wide, Sacred
Don shot clear once he straightened up, was
pegged back late, but the six-year-old hung
in there for his fourth career win by a neck
from Street Party (Congrats), with Quadcopter
(Zoustar) third another half-length away.
Sacred Don ran the 1200m on Polytrack in 1min
11.84secs.
As for Savvy Command, ridden by Benny
Woodworth, he was up against well-tried
opponents like favourite Maceo (Showcasing)
and Lee Freedman’s newcomer, the colourfully-
named The Mareeba Mango (Snitzel), but the
four-year-old absorbed the pressure from the two
throughout the race before raising another gallop
at the 200 metres to hold The Mareeba Mango
at bay by a length and a quarter, with former
Malaysian galloper Alfares (Sacred Falls) rushing
home late for third place, another length away.
“Sacred Don was really well-ridden. He was
rated to perfection,” said Walker.
“Savvy Command has had quiet trials. He
has qualities, we knew he could gallop, but he
is highly-strung.
“It was a clever ride by Benny. It looked like
he had nothing left, but he had actually just
nursed and nursed the horse.
“The other two horses went a lot earlier and
he was headed, but he had a bit up his sleeve.”
From sitting one behind leading trainer
Michael Clements going into Sunday’s meeting,
Walker reclaimed a place he is familiar with
by going three clear at the top on 28 winners
thanks to his ‘Remarkable’ four-from-four at
the top of the programme.
Clements got one back with So Hi Class
(Dark Angel) winning the fifth race, the $50,000
Class 4 race over the mile, but Walker brought
the lead back to three winners with Amazing
Choice.

Bargain buy Pearl Green (Fastnet
Rock) made it win number 13 in
Macau with a convincing victory
under apprentice Eric Cheung
in Sunday’s Class 1 & 2 Handicap over 1500
metres, taking his prize-money to over HKD$5.8
million (approx A$1.05 million).
Given a perfect ride in the very testing heavy
conditions by the five-pound claimer Cheung,
Pearl Green was always in a handy spot in the
run before being pumped by Cheung at the
top of the straight. The good-looking seven-
year-old soon after hit the front to race away for
another fine win.
Pearl Green has been a real bargain
buy for his owner, long-time Macau Jockey
Club (MJC) supporter Chan Ming Wing,
who purchased the gelding on the advice of
trainer K H Leong.
Leong was given a video of Pearl Green’s
two barrier trials as a colt at Randwick - which,
on the surface, did not look flash, finishing
seventh of nine and eighth of nine in two two-
year-old maiden trials at Randwick.
However, in his first trial, he was only five
lengths away from Capitalist (Written Tycoon),
who within a couple of months had won the
2015 Breeders Plate (Listed, 1000m) and then
followed up with the 2016 Magic Millions 2YO
Classic (RL, 1200m) and the Golden Slipper
Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) of that year.
By this time the horse - known in Australia
as Meadow Lane and who was originally
an A$460,000 purchase at the 2015 Magic
Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale - had been
gelded and was on the market. K H Leong
liked him as a type and picked up the bay for
A$50,000, a far cry from his original purchase
price.
Right from day one in Macau, Pearl
Green showed talent, placing in two of his
first three starts before going on to win
five races straight. In one of those wins, he
clipped heels at the top of the straight with
Brazilian rider Ruan Maia lucky to stay in the
saddle. Maia picked the gelding up and in a
miraculous bit of horsemanship weaved a
passage between runners to race away for a
three-length victory.
The following season, the Derby Trial
(Listed, 1500m), the Macau Guineas (Listed,
1500m) and the Macau Derby (Listed,
1800m) - Macau’s Triple Crown - all fell to
Pearl Green, who was then being partnered
by another Brazilian in Manoel Nunes. His
Derby win had all the hallmarks of a top-class
racehorse after he struck bad interference
in a rough run affair, before taking off deep
under Nunes to avoid the traffic and pinch a
winning break to win by a neck from Royal
Garden (Remind).
Pearl Green’s record now stands at 13 wins
and 18 placings from 38 starts with 37 of those
in Macau, only finishing out of a place on six
occasions at Taipa and once when fourth in the
Hong Kong Macau Trophy (1400m) at Sha Tin.
He is the perfect racehorse that handles sand
and turf and both good and heavy tracks; in
fact, his wet track record reads four wins and six
placings from 10 starts, never out of a top three
spot.

Pearl Green MJC
Bargain buy a real ‘Pearl’
Eric Cheung MJC
K H Leong MJC
As the gelding enters his seventh year,
it’s not over yet with plenty more to come
evidenced by Sunday’s win.
Pearl Green has not been the only bargain
buy by K H Leong for Chan Ming Wing. In 2010
Leong paid A$50,000 for a Darley castoff that
had won a maiden at Mornington in six runs
in Victoria. Originally a A$700,000 purchase
by Sheikh Mohammed at the 2008 Inglis
Australian Easter Yearling Sale, the horse -
named Gauteng (More Than Ready) - went on
to win 18 races in Macau. He was successful
at his Macau swansong as a 12-year-old, he
placed on 42 occasions and he picked up close
to HKD$5 million in prize-money.
The win on Pearl Green gave apprentice
Eric Cheung his 16th victory for the season
after returning late from injury. Cheung was
a late starter in the business, beginning as a
trainee apprentice with the Hong Kong Jockey
Club’s Apprentice School in 2006, alongside the
likes of Hong Kong riders Matthew Chadwick,
Vincent Ho and Alvin Ng.
Once he completed his time, he
was unfortunately not able to secure an
apprenticeship there; after five years as a track
rider in Hong Kong, Cheung still harboured a
burning desire to become a jockey.
He travelled to Australia and after a spell
with Toby Edmonds at the Gold Coast and a
short stint at Warwick Farm, both as a work
rider, he landed an apprenticeship with Gordon
Yorke at Gosford.
Cheung got off to a dream start, winning
on his first race ride when Radiologist (Nuclear
Freeze) scored at Coffs Harbour in June, 2016.
After 100 rides in NSW and 17 winners he
encountered visa problems in Australia and
returned home to his family in Hong Kong.
After a year away from racing, Cheung
was enticed back into the game by former
Champion jockey and trainer Stanley Chin and
he joined the stable as an apprentice in 2018.
With time off through injury, Cheung has
only really had a little over two years of race
riding experience, however he rides with a
maturity beyond his years. He is quite tall for a
jockey at 170 centimetres, but is reed-thin going
to scale at 110 pounds.
Due to his age of 29, Cheung has been
granted a freelance jockey license for next
season, but will still ride out his claim. This
makes him good value as he still has a five
pound-allowance until he reaches 75 winners;
his tally at present is 63 wins overall.
Comeback rider Peter Lao is earning the
tag as the longshot king after booting home
another long-priced winner on Sunday.
Lao was seen to advantage on the $319 pop
Numberone Mingxuan (Bullbars) in the Class
4 over 1500 metres for trainer Sio Cheong. To
make it even more remarkable, Numberone
Mingxuan is Macau’s smallest horse at 864
pounds, yet had no trouble romping home
through the testing wet conditions.
The week prior, Lao kicked home Military
Star (Dragon Pulse) at odds of $1294 for the
win for trainer Tony Fung in the Class 4 over
1350 metres on the sand. Even his first winner
back, Infinite Treasure (Captain Rio), paid a
whopping $745 dollars for the win.
Nowadays, Lao’s rides are not the heavily-
bet favorites that were commonplace for him
to ride in his heyday back in the late 1990s
and early 2000s, as a two-time Champion
apprentice and one of Macau top riders.
He even rode successfully in Singapore for
Charles Leck for a number of years, winning a
Queen Elizabeth II Cup (Listed, 2000m) and a
Raffles Cup (Listed, 1600m) on Emerald Isles
(Shaadi) and a Kranji Mile (1600m) aboard
Pacific Prince (Sky Filou).
The high-end rides may not be coming Lao’s
way at the moment, but of late he is looking as
good as ever and, as evidenced by his recent
performances, he is riding with all the flair of
the old days.

brought up his 159th
stakes winner when
Katara (3 f ex Asyad
by New Approach)

Chalice Stakes (Listed,
1m 4f) at Newmarket

Ravi. Having finished second in the prestigious
Coventry Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at Royal Ascot at two,
Elzaam was subsequently retired to Ballyhane

Kendargent stood at Haras de Colleville in
France for €15,000 (approx AUD$24,750) in
2020.
Maxios - German bred and trained filly
Liberty London (4 f ex Ledicea by Medicean)

Group 1 winner Maxios stands for a fee of
€6,000 (approx AUD$9,900) at Castlehyde Stud
in Ireland.
Mesnil Des Aigles - Air De Valse (4 f ex
Air Bag by Poliglote) gamely held off the late
challenge of the desperately unlucky Rocket
Action (Toronado) to land the Prix du Cercle
(Listed, 1000m) at Deauville with Wayatos
(Maxios) back in third. Air De Valse became
the first stakes winner for her sire, Mesnil Des
Aigles (Neverneyev), a half-brother to the
world-class Cirrus Des Aigles (Even Top).
Teofilo - Get Shirty (4 g ex Soccer Mom
by Monsun) provided his sire Teofilo (Galileo)
with his 93rd international stakes winner when
taking the Prix du Carrousel (Listed, 3000m)
at Deauville. Former shuttler Teofilo, the sire
of Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) hero Cross
Counter, stands at Darley’s Kildangan Stud in
