The Three Part Process

Of slaughtering

Shachita, Bedicha and Melicha

SHECHITA•Shechita is slaughtering the animal. •The slaughtering must be done with a squared knife called a “Chalaf.”•Not everyone can slaughter an animal. It has to be done by a special rabbi.•The slaughtering is done in a pacific way in order not to course any pain to the animal.

So we wash it away.•First, you salt it.•Then, you wash it.•Next, you salt it again to get rid of any remaining blood.•Finally, you wash it again to get rid of the salt.•As well as making the animal kosher it also makes the animal clean which is a bonus.
