Pursuing the HKUST MBA is a journey of personal transformation. I’ve always been inspired by HKUST faculty’s insight and my classmates’ creativity. The self-discovery Immersion Program, enabled me to appreciate the complexity and even beauty of management and leadership. I’ve also learned how to leverage my strengths and resources and adapt to different working environments. The MBA program represents a life-long partnership with HKUST and has led to priceless friendships with my classmates and alumni.
I decided to pursue the HKUST MBA as a complement to my professional assignment in China. Among the things I value the most is that every course on the well-designed curriculum has elements that I can apply directly to my new role, enhancing my skills both as a professional and leader. It is a transformational experience that broadens my horizons by exposing me to a very diverse class and alumni network, which in turn helps me to set new aspiring career goals to pursue in the future.

The program at HKUST is second to none. Most memorable for me was the Managerial Communications course. You can expect to be challenged, and to improve your skill set exponentially. In the second year, the options available (exchanges, events, short-term trips, electives...) are bewildering in their number. The sky is the limit, so don't let anything hold you back. Without any hesitation and in every respect, I can say that choosing HKUST was one of the best decisions of my life. If you're looking to take your career to the next level, this is the place for you. Do it. Jump!

Luxury Strategy It is a hands-on course that requires students to work in teams on a real-world marketing project with a luxury brand, which included Kenzo and CÉLINE in the past. The course addresses the unique properties, opportunities, and challenges of the luxury industry by studying issues relevant to the field in various aspects of the business. You will have the unique opportunity to interact with senior executives from the brand as they give you feedback on your research and recommendations, and guide you to understand their brand strategy and implementation.
Enhancing Professional Skills (EPS) To nurture our students as future business leaders, our professors with expertise in consulting, marketing, finance and management will deliver the winning secrets they have gained from writing effective executive summaries, making persuasive elevator pitches, presenting financial data logically and marketing business proposals. These are essential skill sets needed to excel in the MBA program.
Management ConsultingThis course is taught by a former consultant from McKinsey & Co with over 20 years of professional experience, and will provide you with the key skills that management consultants require to solve business problems. You will learn how to frame and structure problems, brainstorm solutions, decide on recommendations, and create a powerful story to communicate them.
Experiential LearningMindy LiIntake 2017Channel Sales LeaderGE Healthcare
At HKUST, you have many opportunities to study real-world business cases, and apply what you learn to solve those problems. The EPS course is one of the most impressive and profound experiences in the HKUST MBA program. You learn management consulting, marketing analysis, financial analysis and business presentation skills, all from the best professors. Students are divided into several groups in a one-week course that ends with a case competition. Such intensive learning improves strategic thinking and presentation skills which are highly relevant to real workplace environments and corporate interviews.
Global Business CompetitionsEach year, we invite our students to participate in Global Business Competitions to test their mettle against other top MBA students around the world. You will be asked to form your own team of diversified global talents in your class, and get inspirational feedback on your business ideas from seasoned investors and senior executives.
As the most popular course in the HKUST MBA program, Enhancing Professional Skills (EPS) is a truly unique experience that everyone should definitely try. To begin with, EPS has outstanding professors as course coordinators: Prof. Doran, Prof. Nason, Prof. Salvacruz and Prof. Franklin, among others. Students would learn how to analyze, project and present a case to an audience. I truly enjoyed the course and appreciate that its cases are applicable to the real business world.

Throughout our two decades of history, our innovative spirit has kept us ahead of the game.
A Success StoryWhile on an exchange to Duke University , Thomas discovered that about 10% of Americans bought insurance on the Internet each year. Thomas realized that the third-party online insurance channel in China has enormous potential. Thus, Thomas and his friend House Guang set up the Xiaoyusan Insurance Company.
The key entrepreneurial team of Xiaoyusan Insurance came from Tencent, with nearly a decade of experience in customer operations and electronic commerce. They cooperated with insurance companies under exclusive arrangements to create customized insurance policies. In 2015, Xiaoyusan Insurance Company launched a new sports insurance program with Ping An Insurance. A well-known insurance company in China that was voted into the rankings of the world's 250 most valuable financial technology companies by CB Insights.
Over the past three years, more than 400 customized Xiaoyusan Insurance products have been sold on its platform with nearly 10 million users and investment institutions such as Sequoia and Matrix which rank among the top investment institutions in China. Xiaoyusan Insurance also developed an insurance customization AI “Jingjing”, the “Woodpecker” risk control system and the AICS claim system. In the future, Xiaoyusan Insurance hopes to harness high technology to make even more changes in the insurance industry.
My journey at HKUST helped me set well-defined career targets. During my exchange at Duke University, I had the opportunity to research Fin-tech development in Asia. When I returned, I decided to start my adventure in the online insurance technology business, an open frontier in China. Thanks to HKUST’s amazing network of alumni, my business expanded rapidly and we are now the leading online insurance fin-tech company in China, with nearly 10 million users all around the country. If you are exploring the idea of an MBA, HKUST is definitely the best choice.

The HKUST MBA was the most important and best choice I made in 2018. The MBA experience boosted my confidence and improved my ability to confront life’s challenges. I realized that all of my classmates are striving for excellence, no matter how old or how busy they are. We all strive for success. I was encouraged to jump out of my comfort zone and pursue opportunities beyond my industry. My professional transition began when a career coach from the HKUST MBA career office helped me use design thinking methods to generate and evaluate multiple plans for what my next 5-10 years might look like. Such support not only comes from career coaching, but also comes from professional workshops and alumni networking activities. Furthermore, the comprehensive information on industries and market forecasts along with advice from the career office and from classmates in the same industry, help me to consider my opportunities more clearly and objectively. I am confident that the HKUST MBA resources will be there when I am ready to turn my vision into reality.
The exchange program offers students a wonderful opportunity to gain international exposure and maximize their experience at HKUST. The exchange experience in London Business School was definitely the highlight of my MBA. Those days in London greatly enhanced my international exposure. In class, I was exposed to the practical investment experiences shared by LBS professors. The interaction with brilliant candidates from other top MBA programs broadened my horizons and inspired me to consider a variety of life choices. The best part of the exchange experience was the opportunity to reexamine life from a new perspective. This remarkable experience filled me with passion and confidence in the future.

Thanks to HKUST’s world-class MBA program, I participated in an exchange with another top MBA school. This full-time program gave me the luxury of being immersed in campus life at the University of Virginia, making it possible for me to pursue my true passions. This was a time of high-quality courses, marketing seminars, stock pitches, consultancy training, and participation in various sports such as rafting and hiking. I enjoyed every minute at both HKUST and Berkeley Haas. I chose UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business from a long list of schools because of its Defining Leadership Principles which create an extremely inclusive and innovative culture.
My time at Haas allowed me to reflect on my values and motivations, practice the skills needed to drive change, and build a network that includes exceptionally talented professionals. Most importantly, the experience at Haas gave me a new perspective on personal and professional growth. Instead of asking "What job can I get?", I now ask "What impact can I make?" Instead of checking boxes, I want to create new boxes, and endeavor to make the world a better place.
