Q: Is it an accelerator or an add-on? A: While it is similar to those, rapid-deployment solutions provide best practices for using SAP software and configuration templates that are offered with supporting consulting services. You aren’t getting a toolkit, you are getting a solution! Q: Is the content really free? A: Rapid-deployment solutions provide free content as an added value for our licensed customers to drive down implementation costs, accelerate deployment, and add benefit to their investment in SAP products. Q: Can I combine packages? A: Rapid deployment solutions use the concept of Assemble to Order (A2O). A2O means you can create one project from multiple SAP rapid-deployment solutions to better address your business challenges.

Q: Are these just ‘one-off’ solutions? A: No, many of the solutions are designed to integrate with each other. Because these solutions are integrated with your SAP technical landscape, they extend your current investment and make it easier to innovate and extend your technology’s ability to deliver on needed business solutions, provide a mobile user experience, or jump to the cloud. Q: What exactly are configuration templates? A: Configuration templates provide customized settings. The exact contents of the configuration templates depend on the solution. Examples of customized settings are: master data that can be deployed automatically, SAP HANA data models, jump starts for mobile, best practices forms, visualizations of data, and so on.

For more information about SAP Rapid Deployment solutions, see the SAP Rapid Deployment Solutions (RDS) area on the SAP Service Marketplace.

Description of solution documentation Project Schedule: A spreadsheet providing the lists of tasks, aggregated durations, and lists the required skills to be used to organize your project. Software and Delivery Requirements: A document that provides all the requirements that must be in place before deployment can start. These requirements include those for systems, content, and tools. The guide also includes some project prerequisites. Configuration Guides: – Building Blocks Each solution has detailed configuration guides to describe deployment, implementation, and settings for underlying applications. Prerequisites Matrix: A spreadsheet showing the exact order for implementing configuration guides for each scope item. Content Library: A web page describing and linking to the documentation for the solution. You can filter by scope items or scope item groups to display associated building block configuration guides. Test Scripts: Business process documentation that also provides scripted scenarios to use when creating test scripts for your implementation.

SAP Note: An SAP Note is created for each solution. This note provides general information and recommendations. The note will often refer to other SAP Notes with information to apply to implementation or operation. Attached to the SAP Note is a Configuration Guide – Getting Started. For solutions providing non-ABAP content, the guide provides a high-level overview of the steps to implementation. For solutions providing ABAP content, the guide provides deployment instructions using SAP Solution Manager. Master Data Overview, Organizational data overview: These documents describe SAP ERP sample master data included with the solution and a table to understand the organization model data shipped with a package and its relation to underlying software (only provided for packages with ABAP /SAP ERP content) Simulations: A presentation that demonstrates all, or a selected, scope item that is a business process within an application area of the rapid-deployment solution. Package Fact Sheet: A summary of the business scope and main technical characteristics of a package. Process Diagrams: A graphical representation of the process steps for a scope item.

Questions about documents and content Q: Where are the configuration templates for my solution? A: Rapid-deployment solutions provide content and documentation through the Software Download Center (SWDC) on the SAP Support Portal. For Best Practices packages with ABAP content, a free tool to help build and implement solution packages is available and ships with all rapid-deployment solutions and SAP Business All-in-One, called the SAP solution builder tool. The necessary solution and installation data files can be found here. More information about download content is in the following section. Q: I really just want to see what the solution does; do you have a demo? A: Most solutions provide demonstrations, see the Start Scope-Item Simulation link on the Service Marketplace page of the solution. Also, you can use the Content Library that has a Simulation icon linking to these presentations.

Q: I’ve opened the folder with the configuration guide content and I am confused by the file names. How can I tell what is what? A: Technical file names for Test Scripts and Configuration Guides are by Building Block ID number. SAP uses a concept of reusable, modular building blocks to standardize implementation. Each building block can contain configuration settings that can be used for implementation of multiple scope items. Use the Content Library to identify the guides by name. The Content Library provides links to the documents, even when using the offline version of the Service Marketplace page by choosing Start.html from the downloaded zip file. Q: How can I find out what it’s going to take to implement a rapid-deployment solution? A: The best place to start is the Configuration Guide, Getting Started that provides an overview of the steps necessary for deployment.

Ensure your technical landscape meets requirements Rapid-deployment solutions are developed using specific versions of SAP applications. Ensure that versions and service pack (SP) levels specified by the requirements match your system. Closely review all SAP Notes associated with the package The SAP Note for the solution, as well as the Software Requirements Guide will provide information about exceptions, limitations, or known issues. Review all notes carefully. Follow the Prerequisites Matrix sequence for configuration Because rapid-deployment solutions often require configurations for multiple applications, you may have to set some configurations before deploying the package’s delivered content. The Prerequisites Matrix provides the order to follow for implementation.

Technical Recommendations for rapid-deployment solutions Content is provided through the SAP Support Portal Rapid-deployment solutions provide non-ABAP content as content add-ons. The configuration guides for your chosen solution provide directions to the solution-specific content add-ons from the SAP Support Portal Software Download Center (SWDC). For solutions with ABAP content, the Configuration Guide – Getting Started provides instructions for that content. Basic Skill Levels are assumed While the documentation for rapid-deployment solutions are meant to be self-explanatory, familiarity and certain skill levels with the underlying technology is assumed. Think integrated, plan incremental Many of the rapid-deployment solutions include multiple scope items with shared configuration, models, and so on. Additionally, many solutions are designed for integration with other rapid-deployment solutions. Even if you are only planning on deploying a single scope item from one of our solutions, our integrated approach makes adding additional use cases or solutions easy & quick.

Provided Content on SAP Support Portal - SWDC. SAP Support Portal, Software Download Center (SWDC), provides the content to download for the rapid-deployment solution packages. Choosing one of the rapid-deployment solutions in SWDC opens links to the downloadable material. Depending on the package this could include: ST-RDS 100 – This link is common for all rapid-deployment packages and includes provided SAP Solution Manager Support Packages and Patches. <Documentation package file name> is typically an abbreviated package name, for example SAP_RDS_GLOBAL_BATCH_MII_1.140, HANA_BDI_RDS, SAP_AHBD_HANA_RDS, and so on. < SAP_RDS Content name> This link has CONTENT in the file name as well as an abbreviation to type of content, for example HANA, SHL, BIP, BP-ERP, BP-BW, SOLBUILD_IN_ECLIPSE, and so on. Note: Not all types of content are provided for all packages, see the example for more information.
