Rotary History

One day in the fall of 1900,

Paul P. Harris met attorney

Bob Frank for dinner in a

 well-off neighborhood on

the North Side of Chicago.

They took a walk around the

area and stopped at shopsalong the way. Harris was

impressed by how Frank

had made friends with many

of the shopkeepers.

Since moving to Chi-

cago to set up his law prac-

tice, Harris had not encoun-

tered the kind of camarade-

rie that Frank enjoyed with

his fellow businessmen. He

 wondered whether there

was a way to channel and

expand this type of fellow-

ship, which reminded him of

the New England town

 where he'd grown up.

Eventually, Harris per-

suaded other local business-

men to meet and discuss

forming a club for commer-

cial trade, community, andfellowship. His vision laid

the foundation for the Rotary

of today.

cation regarding the Joint meeting, as

PP Alfred clarified, the meeting has

been changed to a day meet. The de-

tails on page five stand, but it will only

be a day meeting. Only PP Simon and

his family will be attending on the

club’s behalf.

PP Simon announced that the

day trip to Melaka was on and details

can be found on page six.

PP Teow talked on Leptospirosis.

His talk was detailed and helpful,

much of its significance absorbed by

the members. As always he was me-

 Vice President Ker presided

being out of town and able to join us

only during fellowship.

The heartening thing was punc-

tuality, as PP Alfred pointed out and

appreciated the efforts by the mem-

bers. The meeting was called to or-

der at 8.05 P.M.

One minute of silence was ob-

served to commemorate the passing

of two Rotarians.

Dr Chandran, former Rotarian

of RC Kluang passed away last Sat-

urday.

Rtn Dr Lau of Rotary Club of

Singapore passed away on 3rd No-

vember.

There was a slight miscommuni-

ticulous in his explanations, telling us

about the pitfalls and dangers of this

disease. The symptoms and the

treatment. Anyone wanting to know

more about it could pick his brain

during a fellowship.

PE John Ng presented his list of

nominations, a comprehensive one

that will be voted on and decided at

the AGM.

There was a little back and forth

on whether such list should be pre-

sented in a normal meeting or in a

meeting of the Board of Directors. In

the end, it was a formal presentation

and the AGM will decide on the final

crop.

We adjourned to JB Restaurant

for fellowship.
