course description/purpose As new technologies are being developed everyday, most companies have produced similar products with similar qualities. What criteria do customers use in making their buying decisions? The answer is ‘brand perception’, or in other words, how we view or perceive the products For this reason, marketing communication plays a vital role in the current business world as it leads to increased sales, brand reputation, improved image, brand loyalty and much more.

While communication arts programs from other universities allow students to choose only one area of study, this program requires students to study the backgrounds of several areas of marketing communication, i.e. Advertising, Public Relations and Journalism. The strength of this program is that we create a new generation of well-rounded ‘Marketing Communicators’ who know how to apply their many areas of study to create a harmonious and effective means of marketing communica-tion. As a result, this unique program would enable students to successfully apply their integrated knowledge of marketing that will suit the requirements of their clients.

information for new international students

The staff can assist you in registering your subjects at the Admission’s Office, getting your Student ID, opening your local bank account and other essentials.

visit the international student service center (iss) After meeting the faculty, it is important that you visit the International Student Service Center (ISS) located at the first floor of Building 7 (Library).

You will be required to extend your Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa to one year and the staff at ISS will assist you in completing all the necessary requirements before submitting them to the nearest Immigration Office.

Although all forms needed to update your immigration documents can be downloaded from the internet, it is advisable to seek guidance from the ISS during the first few times to familiarize yourself with the immigration procedures in Thailand.

You are also requested to submit a photocopy of your Health and Travel Insurance Policy purchased from your country of origin (including the contact person) so that when the need arises, ISS can help you to coordinate with the insurance company.

After buying a local SIM card from the nearest convenience store, please report your contact number to the ISS and it will be recorded and used in times of emergency.

attend an orientation program All new international students are required to attend the Orientation program which is normally scheduled a week before the semester starts. It is important that you arrive in Thailand at least one to two weeks before the new semester opens so you have plenty of time to prepare yourself before you start studying.

attend classes to commence the semester Finally you are now ready to attend your classes in your faculty. Your instructors will tell you on the first day of your classes about the course content as well as other course requirements needed to pass the subject. Please note it is also a condition of your Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa that you attend all classes as a full-time student.

visa and immigration Upon receipt of the Letter of Acceptance from Rangsit University, you can present this to the nearest Thai Consulate or Embassy in your country of origin that will provide you with a Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa before flying to Thailand. The Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa allows you to stay in Thailand for a maximum of 90 days (although some Thai Consulates or Embassies may give you a visa for less than 90 days).

Upon arrival in Thailand, you must immediately contact Rangsit University’s International Student Service Center (ISS) to assist you in extending this visa to one year. 41

different types of visas

One of the most important duties you have while in Thailand is keeping your immigration paperwork up-to-date and orga-nized. This is extremely important because if you are caught with outdated documents penalties can be harsh.

1. single entry visa When you were issued a Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa allowing you to stay legally in Thailand for a maximum of one year, you were issued a Single Entry Visa. A Single Entry Visa is a type of visa that allows you to enter Thailand for the purpose of study for a single time only.

2. re-entry visa (single entry) If you plan to leave Thailand during the one year Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa that you have, for example to go to Cambodia, you must apply for a Re-Entry Visa (Single Entry, Application for Re-Entry Permit into the Kingdom) to be able to return back legally to Thailand. If you fail to do so, your Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa will be cancelled and you will be allowed entry to Thailand on a Tourist visa instead.

It is important to note that although you are allowed to return legally for a single time to Thailand with Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa , you can only do so within the one year Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa that you have or before it expires.

3. re-entry visa (multiple entry) 3. Re-Entry Visa (Multiple Entry) If you plan to leave Thailand more than once during the one year Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa, you should apply for a Re-entry Visa (Multiple Entry, Application for Re-Entry Permit into the Kingdom). Re-Entry Visa (Multiple Entry) is a type of visa that allows you to enter Thailand for the purpose of study for multiple times. If you fail to do so, your Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa will be cancelled and you will be allowed entry to Thailand on a Tourist visa instead.

It is important to note that although you are allowed to return legally as many times to Thailand with this visa, you can only do so within the one year Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa that you have or before it expires.

4. 90-day residence visa In addition to the Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa that allows you to stay legally in Thailand for one year, you are also required to submit a 90-Day Residence Visa (Form for Alien to Notify of Staying Longer Than 90 Days) to the Immigration Office every 90 days from the date of your last arrival in Thailand. For example, the date of your last arrival in Thailand was on January 5, 2013, then you will need to submit a 90-Day Residence Visa to the nearest Immigration Office before the 90 days expires (in this case, before April 4, 2013).

Whether you renew the Non-Immigrant ED (Education) Visa every year on time and also have a Re-entry Visa (Single or Multiple) that allows you to legally return back to Thailand, you will always be required to submit a 90-Day Residence Visa before the 90 days expire from your last date of arrival in Thailand. Failure to do so will incur fines.

credit transfer

transfer credit guidelines

If you have successfully completed units or subjects from another institution (College or University) either in Thailand or overseas or from a different degree at RSU, you may apply for credit transfer that may reduce the time you take to com-plete your current degree.

Requirements for Credit Transfer Students are required to fill-up the Application Form for Request of Credit Transfer available at the Registrar’s Office or download the form at www.rsu.ac.th/international. The application form must be submitted together with the Transcript of Records from previous institution, together with a detailed course description of all subjects taken. If transcripts and other documentation are in a language other than English, they must be translated by a certified translator together with certified copies of the original documents.

Evaluation of Credit TransferThe Committee of Credit Transfer from the faculty of the student will evaluate all subjects being applied for credit transfer. The subjects eligible for credit transfer must either be an exact equivalent or of higher credit value and with a grade of C and above.

The students are allowed to transfer a maximum of 75% of the total credits from the current program he/she is studying. For example, if a student is taking a program with a total number of 120 credits, then the student can only transfer a maximum of 90 credits (75% of 120 credits = 90 credits) from his/her previous institution although he/she could have more than 90 credits eligible for credit transfer.

Processing Time for Credit TransferNormally it takes about one month for the faculty to evaluate the subjects eligible for credit transfer. When the Registrar’s Office receives the report from the faculty, it will evaluate and approve the total number of credits that can be transferred.

Afterwards, the Registrar’s Office will inform the faculty to tell the student to report to the Registrar’s Office and pay a credit transfer fee of 200 Baht per credit of all subjects approved. For example, If a student is approved for 20 credits, the student will pay 4,000 Baht (200 Baht per credit x 20 credits = 4,000 Baht).

Maximum Load per Semester The students are allowed to take a maximum load of 21 credits per semester while waiting for the result of credit transfer. The faculty can assist students on which advance subjects he/she could take that are available in the coming semester (except for newly opened programs where advance subjects are not available).

health and insurance

health and insurance

All international students are required to obtain a Health and Travel Insurance policy that will cover them from the time they leave their country to at least the first one year of their study in Thailand.

In cases where the country of origin of the students does not have an insurance company that can provide this requirement, the International Student Service Center (ISS) can provide assistance to them through the university’s appointed insurance company.

International students are required to bring an official medical check-up from a reputable hospital from their country of origin to the International Student Service (ISS) immediately after arrival.

Then before the first year of insurance coverage expires, international students must contact the International Student Ser-vice (ISS) to assist them in extending their Health and Travel Insurance policy to another year. This process must be repeated every year until the whole duration of their study in Thailand.

International students are reminded that Health and Travel Insurance policy is very important in order to protect them from any untoward incident while studying in a different country.

Note: It is important that you provide a copy of your Health and Travel Insurance policy as well as contact information of the person from your insurance company so that in case of emergency, the International Student Service Center (ISS) can assist you in communicating with them.
