The Toy Story Trilogy:The “Toy Story” trilogy debuted in 1995 with an original score composed by Randy Newman. Newman won a Grammy for the first “Toy Story” movie. After his work on “Toy Story 2” he received a well deserved second Grammy for the second movie in the trilogy. At the most recent Oscars, Newman won his second Oscar for “Toy Story 3,” specifically for Best Original Song “We Belong Together.”

Monsters Inc.:After numerous nominations, Randy Newman finally won his first Oscar in 2002 for the song “If I Didn’t Have You” from the movie “Monsters Inc.,” and had the chance to perform with John Goodman, the voice of Sully, one of the main characters in the movie. “Monsters Inc.,” which received international recognition, allowed people to see Randy Newman as the composer of favorite family movie soundtracks they had been listening to for years.

Other Movies: Randy Newman has worked on multiple movies besides the “Toy Story” trilogy and “Monsters Inc.” Newman has worked mostly with Pixar and Disney, creating original scores for movies like “Bug’s Life,” “The Princess and the Frog,” and “James and the Giant Peach.” Newman received Grammy Awards for both “James and the Giant Peach” and “Bug’s Life.” Besides animated movies, Newman also worked on the movie “Ragtime.”

In 1981, Newman received his first Oscar nomination for the movie “Ragtime” for best original score and for the song “One More Hour.” This was the first of twenty nominations. His first Oscar win was for the song “If I Didn’t Have You” from the movie “Monsters Inc.” in 2002. He recently won his second Oscar for Toy Story 3’s “We Belong Together.” In his acceptance speech, Newman playfully said, “I’m very grateful for this and surprised. My percentages aren’t great.” Newman’s low winning percentage is somewhat compensated by his Emmy wins. Newman has won various Emmy Awards. His first win was for “Cop Rock” in 1991. Since then, he has also won two Emmy Awards for the television show “Monk” – one in 2004 and another in 2010. This shows how Newman’s musical career has expanded from movies to television shows. Lastly, in 2002, Newman received the prestigious Recording Academy’s Governor’s Award. Newman accomplishments are showcased by his many awards.
