Mini Ramadan Bites #6 Wednesday 25

th July 2012.

The heart of the believer is important – the intentions. Virtues of Qiyam al Layl

1. Following Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam 2. Best prayer after the obligatory prayer 3. Following in the Footsteps of the Righteous People 4. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will expiate your sins 5. Forbid you from falling into sin and help you to leave a sin 6. An Honour for the Mumin 7. the best to compete to reach Allah subhana wa ta'ala 8. Give you energy and improve your mood

Salatal Layl

The voluntary prayer after Salatal Isha before Salatal Fajr. You have 3 parts of the nights – this prayer can be prayed in any part. It should be an odd number (plus witr). Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam prayed 11 rakats. Virtues of Salatul Layl

1. You are following the advice of Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam. This is one intention.

Hadith: one of the Sahabah said ‘Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam commanded me to pray salatul al layl’.

Page 2: Ramadan Bites 6-10 - WordPress.com · 2013-02-23 · Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10 6 In the last third of the night Allah subhana wa ta'ala, the All Mighty, He will descend to the

2. This is the best of the prayers after the obligatory prayer.

3. You are following in the footsteps of the saliheen, the righteous people.

Hadith: When you are praying the night prayer you are following in the footsteps of the righteous people.

4. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will expiate all your sins

The wudu expiates your sins, any type of prayer will expiate your sins. The more difficult the prayer the more your sins will be expiated. ‘I want Allah subhana wa ta'ala to expiate my sins and to forgive me for all my sins’.

Page 3: Ramadan Bites 6-10 - WordPress.com · 2013-02-23 · Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10 6 In the last third of the night Allah subhana wa ta'ala, the All Mighty, He will descend to the

5. Some sins are a trap and difficult to get rid of. Praying Salatul Layl will forbade the

person from falling into sin.

Something will withhold you from committing the sin. Sometimes you are very weak, your desire wants you to sin and you are unable to stop yourself sinning or falling into sin. Have the intention not to commit sin or fall into sin. It will also help you to quit the sin.

6. If you want the honour you will get the honour from Qiyam al Layl.

You are busy in a time when no one sees you – Allah subhana wa ta'ala will give you the honour. You are not praying in a time when everyone can see you because you want the honour from people but Allah subhana wa ta'ala will give you the honour.

7. Qiyal al Layl is the best to compete with - in receiving the Pleasure of Allah subhana wa ta'ala, to reach Allah subhana wa ta'ala.

Not to be better than others, put people down but ahead in the deen to motivate yourself.

Page 4: Ramadan Bites 6-10 - WordPress.com · 2013-02-23 · Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10 6 In the last third of the night Allah subhana wa ta'ala, the All Mighty, He will descend to the

I want to race to Allah subhana wa ta'ala and the best way is to pray Qiyam al Layl. Compete in the good. By itself this is a jihad, remembering the rewards – this is an action of the heart.

8. Hadith; when a person over sleeps the Shaytaan will say ‘Sleep because this is a long night’. Shaytan will tie three knots over your head.

Shaytaan will try to make you miss this reward. When you wake up in the night and just open your eyes and remember Allah subhana wa ta'ala one knot will be untied. When you perform wudu the second knot will open. When you start your prayer and say ‘Allahu Akbar’ the third knot will open. You will wake up energetic and in a good mood. You will be as active as a bee, even if you just slept a few hours.

16. Rahmatillah 17. Al Zakireen

9. You will get the Love of Allah subhana wa ta'ala

When praying Qiyam al Layl with the intention you will get the Love of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. This should be our goal in all our Ibadat. Nothing is more beautiful than when you are praying at night and no one is around you. Ikhlas comes when you pray far away from people.

10. Glass Houses in Paradise

Hadith: There are rooms in Paradise from which you can see out of and from the outside you can see inside. Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam said these houses are for those who have good manners (the people talking good), feeding others and one praying at night when everyone is asleep. He will enter Paradise in peace – enter Paradise without going through the trials of the Day of Judgement and entering Hellfire. Some people will enter Paradise without entering Hellfire and some people will enter Paradise after being purified in Hellfire.

11. Allah subhana wa ta'ala Descends to the Lowest Heaven

Page 6: Ramadan Bites 6-10 - WordPress.com · 2013-02-23 · Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10 6 In the last third of the night Allah subhana wa ta'ala, the All Mighty, He will descend to the

In the last third of the night Allah subhana wa ta'ala, the All Mighty, He will descend to the lowest heaven in a manner that suits His Majesty. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will ask is there anyone who has a request, is there anyone who wants the repentance and forgiveness from Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will give them all their requests.

12. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will give you what you ask for – in the dunya or deen.

This is the time for du’a. Even if you are not in the prayer – when asking Allah subhana wa ta'ala from the heart Allah subhana wa ta'ala will give you what you ask of Him. This is a special time.

13. Good Time to Memorize the Qur’an.

Page 7: Ramadan Bites 6-10 - WordPress.com · 2013-02-23 · Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10 6 In the last third of the night Allah subhana wa ta'ala, the All Mighty, He will descend to the

Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10

7

It will be a good time to memorize the Qur’an, to memorise it well and for the Qur’an to stay in your mind as there are no distractions.

14. The Intercession

The Qiyam al Layl will intercede for you on the Day of Judgement. How many intercessions do we need to collect before the Day of Judgement? We want the intercession of Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam, of Qiyam al Layl, of our good deeds, of our fast, of the Qur’an.

15. Elevated in Rank

Page 8: Ramadan Bites 6-10 - WordPress.com · 2013-02-23 · Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10 6 In the last third of the night Allah subhana wa ta'ala, the All Mighty, He will descend to the

Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10

8

This is an ibadah so Qiyam al Layl will elevate you in rank on the Day of Judgement. This will encourage you to perform Qiyam al Layl.

16. Rahmatillah

If a husband woke up for Qiyam al Layl and tried to wake up his wife who also prayed Qiyam al Layl – and the opposite. What will they get? Hadith: Allah subhana wa ta'ala will give a special mercy to those waking up their spouse for Qiyam al Layl.

17. Al Zakireen

A person who wakes up his household for Qiyam al Layl they will be among the people always remembering Allah subhana wa ta'ala day and night. How many ayat should you recite in Qiyam al Layl? We all have a name or title with Allah. We need to choose our title now according to how much you recite the Qur’an in Qiyam al Layl. Hadith:

• The minimum – 10 verses

They will not be among the negligent.

• 100 verses – Al Khanateen

Page 10: Ramadan Bites 6-10 - WordPress.com · 2013-02-23 · Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10 6 In the last third of the night Allah subhana wa ta'ala, the All Mighty, He will descend to the

Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10

10

You will be among the Khanateen, the Devotees. Imagine if you read 100 verses (from surah Naba) only once in your life you will be among the Devotees.

• 1000 verses - Al Muqantareen

Try to do this even once. When you read all of juz 29 and 30, you will among the Al Muqantareen – from qintar meaning a mountain of gold. You will among the people with multiple rewards, hasanat (gold). What if you fall asleep while performing the Night Prayer? Hadith: a person starts his night prayer and sleep overcame him while in sujood. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will talk about them in front of the angels who never sleep and who are always praying to Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Look at My servant his soul is with Me because he is sleeping and his body is infront of Me because he is in prayer. Give him the reward as if he established the whole night prayer, and give him the sleep as a charity from Me to him. Don’t underestimate the ibadah, Allah subhana wa ta'ala wants your heart and will give you multiple rewards. This is the dealing with Allah subhana wa ta'ala, with generosity. May Allah subhana wa ta'ala make it easy for all of us. You will get all these virtues and the virtues of establishing the salat.

1. Multiple rewards 2. Every step is a reward and forgiveness 3. Forgiveness of sins 4. Malaika will make du’a for him. 5. Following the sunnah 6. Live in goodness and die in goodness 7. Freedom from Hellfire and Hypocrisy.

Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam said the prayer, you should never leave your salat in any situation or condition. The prayer is on the 7

1. Multiple Rewards Whether you pray in the masjid or at home; Hadith: Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam said the prayer in congregation has multiple rewards – equivalent to 27 degrees better than praying alone.

2. Every step is a reward and forgiveness of a sin Hadith: if the person makes wudu, perfects his wudu, went to the Masjid only for prayer. For every step forward Allah will give one reward for every step and forgive the sins.

Page 14: Ramadan Bites 6-10 - WordPress.com · 2013-02-23 · Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10 6 In the last third of the night Allah subhana wa ta'ala, the All Mighty, He will descend to the

3. Hadith: the malaika are praying on him.

The angels are invoking and supplicating the person going to the Masjid to pray in congregation; ‘May Allah praise him and may Allah be Merciful to him’. Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam said ‘When one is waiting to pray in congregation, it is as if he is in prayer. The prayer is so important and so precious. If you come out of the house for the sake of Allah the reward is the malaika are invoking you and whiled waiting for the prayer is as if you are praying.

4. Forgiveness of Sins Hadith: ‘The who makes wudu and perfected his wudu and walks to an obligatory prayer to the masjid and prays with the Iman his sins will be forgiven.

Islam encourages salat in the congregation and in the masjid – it is obligatory for men to pray the five obligatory prayers in the masjid. 5. Following the sunnah

Page 15: Ramadan Bites 6-10 - WordPress.com · 2013-02-23 · Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10 6 In the last third of the night Allah subhana wa ta'ala, the All Mighty, He will descend to the

Hadith: Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam said ‘if you want to meet Allah subhana wa ta'ala as a Muslim let him take care of his obligatory prayer. It will be following Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

If a man prays the obligatory prayer at home you will leave the sunnat of Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam and you will be misguided. The Sunnah is not doing something extra. The Sunnah is following the way of Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam. Gently encourage your men folk to pray in the masjid. 6. Live in Goodness and Die in Goodness Hadith: Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam said one night one khamar came to me and said ‘O Muhammad, there is a dispute among the angels about the human being, how Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave them chances upon chances, how Allah expiate their sins and elevated their ranks by attending the Jama’ah. Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam said ‘the one taking care of this, for him he will live in goodness and he will die in goodness’.

People think more of going to work early in the morning rather than praying in the Jama’ah. We need to maintain it and care about it. He will be like a new born. 7. Freedom from Hell and Hypocrisy

Page 16: Ramadan Bites 6-10 - WordPress.com · 2013-02-23 · Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10 6 In the last third of the night Allah subhana wa ta'ala, the All Mighty, He will descend to the

Hadith: Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam said ‘If a man prays for 40 days each jama’ah in the masjid from the first Takbeer he will get the freedom from two things: Freedom from Hellfire and the freedom from the hypocrisy.

He will not among the hypocrites. His heart is attached to the Masjid. One person who will be under the shade of Allah subhana wa ta'ala is a person whose heart is attached to the masjid. His life is around the masjid. We need to encourage the men and boys to pray in the masjid. Women For women who want the best, to be rich and to get better than all of this is by praying at home.

Hadith; “A woman’s prayer in her house is better than in her courtyard, and her prayer in her own room is better than her prayer in the rest of the house” (reported by Abu Dawud). Women are tempted to go to the masjid to pray in jama’ah but praying at home is the best for you, to be rich – even taraweeh. No harm to pray at the masjid but if you want the best reward it is better to pray at home and encourage your sons to pray in the masjid. Think about what is pleasing to Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Reciting this du’a once is as if you are remembering Allah subhana wa ta'ala day and night (24 hours a day). You are praising Allah subhana wa ta'ala and freeing Allah subhana wa ta'ala from all imperfections. In the month of Ramadan there will be multiple rewards. Mini Ramadan Bites #9 Saturday 28th July 2012. The Standing in Salatul Jama’ah The Virtues of Completing the Rows and Filling the Gaps

– Beloved Step – Allah’s Praise, Angels Du’a – Allah’s Mercy – Elevated one degree in rank – House in Paradise

May Allah subhana wa ta'ala fill our time with the best of the worship, in the day and in the night. Before the ibadah think about the ihtisab – doing the ibadah for the Sake of Allah subhana wa ta'ala and hoping for the reward from Allah subhana wa ta'ala because I feel that I am so poor and Allah subhana wa ta'ala is so Rich. The Standing in Salatul Jama’ah

Page 20: Ramadan Bites 6-10 - WordPress.com · 2013-02-23 · Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10 6 In the last third of the night Allah subhana wa ta'ala, the All Mighty, He will descend to the

The rows should be straight complete with no gaps in between them.

Complete the front row first, then the second row etc. Don’t make your own row – me and my family together. Starting a new row – start from the middle of the row, behind the Iman. Then complete and fill the gaps. The feet should be apart and towards the front (parallel) and touching the feet of the people next to you and shoulder to shoulder if possible. The rows should be straight. Allah subhana wa ta'ala loves the best so always do your best.

1. When taking steps towards a gap, even when in the prayer, every step taken will be the best and most beloved steps to Allah subhana wa ta'ala.

2. When filling the gaps in the rows in Jama’ah Allah subhana wa ta'ala is praising you and the Malaika will praise you.

The Almighty will praise you with your name and everything will praise you. The angels will say ‘Allah forgive him’

Page 22: Ramadan Bites 6-10 - WordPress.com · 2013-02-23 · Mini Ramadan Bites Day 6 - 10 6 In the last third of the night Allah subhana wa ta'ala, the All Mighty, He will descend to the

3. Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s Mercy

One who tries to fill the gap in the rows Allah subhana wa ta'ala will join you, connect to you with His Mercy. This creates unity as everyone is praying with one heart. One who moves and creates a gap, cuts the row without a valid reason, Allah subhana wa ta'ala cuts that person off from His Mercy.

4. Elevate you one degree in rank

5. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will build a house for you in Paradise.

This is praising Allah subhana wa ta'ala and at the same time a du’a and you can say it in the sujood, a dua for praising Allah subhana wa ta'ala and a du’a for seeking refuge. Allahhumma – praising all the Names and Attributes of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. I seek refuge - to seek refuge has two parts. Seeking refuge with whom, and from what are you seeking refuge - Al Isti’adhah. This is an ibadah only to Allah subhana wa ta'ala, I am seeking refuge with Allah subhana wa ta'ala. From what? A danger or harm from which only Allah subhana wa ta'ala can protect me. You can seek refuge with the Names or Attributes of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Attribute of Allah subhana wa ta'ala – Your Pleasure and Your Displeasure. I am attached to the Pleasure of Allah so you are doing actions which cause the Pleasure of Allah. Seeking refuge with the Pleasure of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. I seek refuge by Your Pleasure from Your wrath / anger. We are all scared from Allah’s wrath, no one can protect you from that except Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Only the deeds done for the Sake of Allah for the Pleasure of Allah I will seek refuge. By Allah’s Pardoning – seeking refuge by Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s pardoning, one rope you are attached to. Then you are among the successful ones. We are scared of people’s punishment but nothing compares to Allah’s punishment. The Pleasure of Allah subhana wa ta'ala, the Wrath of Allah, the Pardoning of Allah subhana wa ta'ala, these are all Attributes of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. The Pleasure of Allah is greater than the wrath of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s Pardoning is more than Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s punishment. I seek refuge by Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s Pardoning from His punishment. Wa a’audhu bika minka - I seek refuge by You from You. I am afraid from Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s anger, wrath, punishment, curse, Hell. Where is the refuge? You cannot seek refuge with anybody except with Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Flee to Allah subhana wa ta'ala, I am afraid from Allah, from all the punishment, and no one can help me except Allah subhana wa ta'ala. This is a general du’a. When you say this du’a you need to feel it in your heart – you need to feel in your heart that I am really helpless, no one can protect me, no one I can seek refuge with, no one I can go to except Allah subhana wa ta'ala. To feel Isti’adhah, you need to feel you are really in need, you feel you are really poor and weak and you feel no one can help except Allah subhana wa ta'ala. The best of the dua are the dua of Nabi ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam – wahiy (inspiration) from Allah subhana wa ta'ala so they should be sufficient for us. La uHsee thana an alayka - I cannot enumerate your praises – day and night I am praising Allah subhana wa ta'ala with my tongue, with my heart, still I am doing nothing. I cannot praise You as You deserve, You deserve more. This is how we should feel. The Mumin feels poor to Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Anta kamaa athnayta ‘alaa nafsika – I will be a loser, so I cannot praise you as you deserve. In life when we praise people it will be sufficient for them. You as You praise Yourself. The mind of the human being cannot think of how to praise The Creator. In your sujood you are in the closest place to Allah but how can I praise Allah subhana wa ta'ala? Allah subhana wa ta'ala is teaching us how to praise Himself. When you say this du’a just a little with your heart, it is better than reading a du’a with nothing. Allah subhana wa ta'ala wants your heart not just your ibadah which is on the outside. Mini Ramadan Bites #10 Sunday 29th July 2012. Salat ul Fajr

Everyone will take the reward if they do it for the Sake of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. This is hoping for the reward which you will only get with the knowledge. The virtues if the intention – important is the quality not the quantity. Salatal fajiri al jama’ah Virtues of performing the Fajr prayer in Jama’ah

The angels will come to you in succession in days and nights. The two groups of angels will meet during Salatul al Fajiri and Asr. Allah will ask those who came up ‘how do you find my servants’. The angels will say ‘we found them praying so we left them praying’. - You will not be among the hypocrites

One who prays Fajr in Jama’ah is really a believer. Hypocrites pray Fajr at home, they don’t think of the reward.

An incident in the time of Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam Asma (Radhiallaho anha) bint Yazid Ansari came to the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and said: "O, Prophet of Allah! You are dearer to me than my parents. The Muslim women have deputed me as their representative to talk to you on their behalf. Verily you are the Prophet of Allah for both men and women. We stay for most part of our time within the four walls of our houses. We remain pinned to our duties of fulfilling the sexual desires of men, bearing children for them and looking after their homes. Notwithstanding all this, men excel us in getting rewards for things which we are unable to do. They go and say their daily Salaat and weekly Jum'ah in the Masjid, visit the sick, attend the funerals, perform Hajj after Hajj and, above all, fight in the way of Allah. When they go for Hajj or Jihad, we look after their property, bring up their children and weave cloth for them. Do not we share their rewards with them?" Rasulullah (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam), addressing the Sahabah sitting around him said: "Did you ever hear a woman asking a better question?" Sahabah replied: "O, Prophet of Allah! We never thought that a woman could ever put such a question." Rasulullah (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) addressing Asma said: "Listen attentively, and then go and tell the ladies who have sent you that when a woman seeks the pleasure of her husband and carries out her domestic functions to his satisfaction, she gets the same reward as the men get for all their services to Allah." Asma' (Radhiallaho anha) returned very happily after getting this reply to her question. The worship is when you are pleasing Allah subhana wa ta'ala and doing what Allah subhana wa ta'ala wants from you. Everyone’s way to Paradise is different. Supplication – page 34

Asking Allah subhana wa ta'ala for forgiveness. This is the best du’a for asking forgiveness, so you need to show your need to Allah subhana wa ta'ala, show that you are a servant to Allah subhana wa ta'ala and humbling myself to Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Allaahummaghfir lee: ‘O Allah’ the One perfect in Attributes Khatee atee: My sins. My minor and major sins Wa jahlee: My ignorance. Allah subhana wa ta'ala may not account you for that but you still ask for forgiveness. Israfee fee amree – my transgressions, exceeding my boundaries. Wa maa anta a’lamu bihee minnee - And whatever sin I did You know the best of what I did of the sins, I do not know. Allaahummaghfir lee jiddee wa hazlee – The sins I committed in earnest and in jest Wa khata-ee wa ‘amdee wa kullu dhaalika ‘indee – the sins I committed intentionally and with determination, with a will. Allaahummaghfir lee maa qaddamtu wa maa akh-khartu – mistakes I sent forward, in the past, Khart – mistakes I delayed, in the future wa maa asrartu wa maa a’lantu – mistakes I did secretly and openly wa maa anta a’lamu bihee minnee. - And whatever You know better than me Two Names of Allah subhana wa ta'ala Antal-Muqaddim – The only One Who puts things and people forward, honouring them, brings the deeds towards you. May Allah subhana wa ta'ala put me forward to the good deeds that will make me to go to Paradise.

Antal-Mu’akhkhir – One Who puts things and people behind, makes things delayed. This is based on Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s wisdom and hikmah. La illaaha illa ant – I am not attached to anybody except Allah. You can see this dua before the ‘salaam’, in the sujood, or anytime. We ask Allah subhana wa ta’ala for His forgiveness and His Mercy. Anything that is good from these notes is from Allah

subhana wa ta’ala. Any mistakes & misrepresentations are my own. I ask Allah subhana wa ta’ala for His forgiveness and to

put forgiveness in the hearts of those who read them. JazakAllah Khairan.
