Principal's Greeting When we were younger, my sister and I used to be teased mercilessly by theother kids on our block because we wore uniforms to school. Rather thanbeing a symbol of a different, maybe even elite, type of education, to them theuniform meant we were "nerds" who didn't have any freedom at school. Andto make matters worse, my elementary school shared a fence with our localpublic elementary school. During recess, they would taunt us about our smallplayground and, again, our uniforms. I began to feel ashamed when I wouldwalk around the grocery store with my mom after school and people wouldnotice what I was wearing. Then one morning at Mass, around my 4th or 5thgrade year, I heard the lyrics from the traditional hymn "Be Not Afraid"

"And if wicked men insult and hate you all because of me Blessed, blessed are you"

I felt in that moment that God was talking to me. He was letting me know thatmy attendance at a Cathlic school was not to be a source of shame, but atestimony to the way that Catholic school can change lives. I was bearingwitness to the faith in a secular world. The Gospel this week brought thesememories to the forefront because of the verse

“You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed.”

It can be difficult sometimes to hold our heads high as believers in Christ andprofess the message of hope in the Church. The Beatitudes referenced in thesong “Be Not Afraid” and Jesus’s teachings in Luke both remind us that facingpersecution and having to defend ourselves in His name all come before oursalvation. May we always remain steadfast in our faith!

The Notre Dame School community and NDS Preschoolprogram bids farewell to Mrs. Smith, who spent her finalday with us last Friday. Notre Dame has been blessedwith Mrs. Smith’s excitement and dedication to earlychildhood development during her year and a half withus as Preschool Director and 3 year old classroomteacher. Starting with only 8 students last year, we arenow a program with over 30 students. Mrs. Smith’stireless commitment to growing the program hascontributed to a strong community amongst thepreschool families. We wish her the best as she pursues anew career opportunity in Camarillo. Ms. Maria Gomeswill assume the role of Interim Preschool Director. Ms.Victoria Zavala will take a larger role in teaching andplanning for the 3 year old class. NDS is currentlyseeking another teacher to join our Preschool team witha primary role in the 3 year old classroom.

Each family is asked to participate in the following ways: Donation of $50 or an item or gift card that is worth $505 hours of service in direct support of the Masquerade Gala Selling of 30 raffle tickets at a price of $5 eachPrayer for the many volunteers, donors, faculty, and staff whoinvest time, talent, and treasure into the success of Notre DameSchool(In lieu of 5 service hours, families can contribute an additionalitem or monetary donation worth $75 or can sponsor one of thecosts of our Gala planning efforts. ) Raffle tickets will be distributed to the community on December16th for sale over the Christmas Break and will be due in January.Family donations can be turned in at the office now. Auction money is due by December 20. Any family who does notmeet their $50 Auction Contribution or Item will be charged $50 inaddition to their January tuition obligation.

Saludos de la DirectoraCuando éramos más jóvenes, mi hermana y yo solíamos ser burlados sinpiedad por los otros niños en nuestra cuadra porque vestíamos uniformespara ir a la escuela. En lugar de ser un símbolo de un tipo de educacióndiferente, tal vez incluso de élite, para ellos el uniforme significaba que éramos"nerds" que no tenían ninguna libertad en la escuela. Y para empeorar lascosas, mi escuela primaria compartió una valla con nuestra escuela primariapública local. Sentí en ese momento que Dios me estaba hablando. Me estaba haciendosaber que mi asistencia a una escuela católica no debía ser una fuente devergüenza, sino un testimonio de la forma en que la escuela católica puedecambiar vidas. Estaba dando testimonio de la fe en un mundo secular. ElEvangelio de esta semana trajo estos recuerdos a la vanguardia debido alversículo

A veces puede ser difícil mantener la cabeza alta como creyentes en Cristo yprofesar el mensaje de esperanza en la Iglesia. Las bienaventuranzas a las quese hace referencia en la canción "No tengas miedo" y las enseñanzas de Jesúsen Lucas nos recuerdan que enfrentar la persecución y tener que defendernosen su nombre son anteriores a nuestra salvación. ¡Que siemprepermanezcamos firmes en nuestra fe!

La comunidad de la escuela Notre Dame y el programapreescolar NDS se despiden de la Sra. Smith, quien pasó suúltimo día con nosotros el viernes pasado. Notre Dame hasido bendecida con. La emoción y dedicación de Mrs. Smithal desarrollo de la primera infancia durante su año y mediocon nosotros como directora de preescolar y maestra de 3años. Comenzando con solo 8 estudiantes el año pasado,ahora somos un programa con más de 30 estudiantes. Elcompromiso incansable de Mrs.Smith para hacer crecer elprograma ha contribuido a una comunidad fuerte entre lasfamilias de preescolar. Le deseamos lo mejor mientras buscauna nueva oportunidad de carrera en Camarillo. La Sra.Maria Gomes asumirá el papel de directora interina depreescolar. La Sra. Victoria Zavala tendrá un papel másimportante en la enseñanza y planificación de la clase de 3años. NDS actualmente está buscando otro maestro paraunirse a nuestro equipo de preescolar con un papelprincipal en el aula de 3 años.
