We have built a strong reputation in the rail industry having undertaken projects globally for blue chip miners, government organisations and emerging resource companies. Key personnel within Engenium’s dedicated rail team are experts in the rail industry.Engenium manages railway infrastructure projects from the strategic level and feasibility study stage through to detailed design, documentation, construction management, commissioning and handover. Our understanding of rail operations and cost structures enables us to deliver solutions that not only reduce capital costs, but also ongoing operations and maintenance.Engenium has been involved in the successful delivery of over $8bn of rail projects, demonstrating our depth of experience and expertise in this sector. With strong capability in rail infrastructure projects, Engenium has a track record in:• Heavy haul rail and transportation• Roads, fills and cut throughs• Transport intersections• Bridges• Culverts and drainage• Earthworks and civil works.

Our Clients have come to depend on us to successfully manage all aspects of project delivery and the value we bring in:• Project execution strategy and management• Scope, budget and schedule management• Contracting and procurement strategy and

management• Engineering and design management• Value engineering• Interface management, coordination and

communications• Project controls and reporting• Risk management• Estimating and planning management• Construction management• Health, safety and environmental compliance.

“We maintain a pragmatic and whole-of-project outlook from study through to design and execution.”

that a port may require, such as sidings and bulk commodity loading facilities.

• Assist with the preparation of study reports, approvals and regulatory requirements.

• Assessment of operational service standards.• Assessment of new facilities investment (capital

expenditure and construction costs).• Assessment of costs relating to technical

operating matters (operating expenditure), review and approval of operational documents such as the train management guidelines and train path policies.

• Review, analysis and development of rail operational documents.

• Review and analysis of the costing principles used to determine floor and ceiling prices.

Rail InfrastructureCase Studies

East West Line Parks Iron BoomerangProgram Management of Pre-Feasibility Study.Client: East West Line ParksProject Location: From Newman Fortescue River Valley in Western Australia to Abbot Point Precinct in Queensland.

Project Summary: Engenium are foundation partners and heavily involved in the program management of the East West Line Parks Project Iron Boomerang bankable feasibility study. This project is to establish first stage Iron and Steel smelting parks in both the Newman Fortescue River Valley in Western Australia and the Abbot Point Precinct in Queensland. At both locations common user industrial support infrastructure (stock & slab yards, coke ovens, co-gen power station, sinter plant and oxygen plant) is to be constructed and operated on a collaborative basis to maximise precinct advantage economics to all participants.A project highlight is the planned construction of a new 3,300 kilometre heavy gauge railway line, running west to east from Port Hedland (spur to Dampier) in Western Australia to Abbot Point in Queensland, linking together Australia’s export Iron Ore and coking/thermal Coal mines. This project will utilise both the sustainable and abundant natural gases available in the Coal Seam Methane Gas in Queensland and the North West Shelf Natural Gas Resource of Western Australia. This project concept is designed to generate significant positive global scale reductions of climate change sinks (“carbon credits”), by dramatically improving the current supply chain bulk handling inefficiencies.

RGP5 - Port Hedland Rail Infrastructure and FacilitiesEngineering and Study ManagementClient: BHP BillitonProject Location: Pilbara Region, Western Australia.Project Summary: Engenium was appointed as a sub-consultant

for the detailed design of rail infrastructure in the Port Hedland area, and the detailed design for expansions to the existing Loco workshops and maintenance facilities at Nelson Point.

The scope included documentation up to the tender stage. Actual services provided by staff within the assignment included study management, engineering and project controls (estimating, cost control, scheduling contracts and procurement).

RGP6 & Quantum - Port Hedland Rail Infrastructure and FacilitiesEngineering and Study ManagementClient: BHP BillitonProject Location: Pilbara Region, Western Australia.Project Summary: Engenium was

engaged as a sub-consultant of BHP’s Selection Phase Study for augmentation to the existing loco and ore car workshops and maintenance facilities. The scope included capacity analysis and conceptual designs. Actual services provided by staff within the assignment included study management, engineering and project controls (estimating, cost control and scheduling).

Pilbara Rail InfrastructureProject Management, Engineering, Procurement and Construction ManagementClient: VariousProject Location: Pilbara Region, Western Australia.Project Summary: Engenium was involved in the design and

construction of over $8 billion of heavy civil works including railway, bridges and roads. This includes the project management, engineering, procurement and construction management of the eartworks, civil works, drainage, structural, railways, signalling, electrical and communications for Australia’s major mining producers including Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton and Hancock Prospecting.
