Snow closes Mughal Road, Kishtwar- Sinthan highway New Delhi, Nov 7: Former interlocutor Dr Radha Kumar Thursday said that Jammu and Kashmir Government should not implement provisions of the 73rd amendment to its Panchayati Raj Act as “it would lead to the erosion of Special Status of the State.” She however said that state government could incor- porate some of the “best self-made provisions” in their Panchayati Raj Act without touching the 73rd amendment. 2 CRPF men killed in Awantipora attack Searches on to nab assailants KHALID GUL Awantipora (Pulwama), Nov 7: Suspected mili- tants shot dead two paramilitary CRPF personnel in Awantipora town of South Kashmir Thursday evening, official said. “Militants attacked a party of CRPF in Jawbe- hara area of Awantipora on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway at around 5:30 PM, killing two troopers on the spot,” police sources said. They said that the slain troopers belonged to 130 Battalion and were identified as Pradeep Ganna and Mahesh Ram. “The party was being withdrawn and the mili- tants, taking advantage of the fading light, fired volley of bullets with automatic weapons from a narrow alley adjacent to the highway,” a police official said. The attack came barely hours after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated a cold storage facility in Lassipora area of Pulwama district, 15 kilome- ters from the firing spot. “Two CRPF men of the 130th Battalion were killed in a militant attack,” said Inspector Gen- eral CRPF, Nalin Prabhat. The IG said that the two CRPF men were removed to nearest Primary Health Centre where they were declared as bought dead. “The other CRPF jawans opened retaliatory fire; however the militants managed to flee from the spot,” the IG said. He said that the counter offensive by the CRPF men made the militants to flee without trying to snatch the weapons of the slain soldiers. A cordon has been laid and a massive manhunt launched in the area by the police, CRPF and Army. The attack triggered panic in the area as people ran for safety. So far, no militant outfit has claimed responsi- bility of the attack. “We are trying to trace out the militants as they might not have gone far away,” said a police official. “The militants probably came on a motorcycle,” he said. (With inputs from SHOWKAT DAR) MUDDASIR ALI Srinagar/Budgam, Nov 7: Congress vice- president Rahul Gandhi Thursday publicly warned the party ministers and legislators in Jammu and Kashmir that ignoring the party cadres could cost them the tickets for the 2014 State Assembly elections. “There are complaints against ministers and legislators that they don’t pay attention to the party workers’ issues and grievances. I am telling them that if they continue to ignore the workers, they would face difficulties when the party distributes tickets for the 2014 elections in the State,” Rahul said, addressing party workers at the Congress headquarters here. Rahul, who is leading the party in the 2014 general elections at the Centre, said the consent of the workers would be the criteria for distrib- uting the tickets. “We will consider those who go to people and stand for them and not those who come in helicopters,” said Rahul, wrapping his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. called Sardar Patel a "total communalist", BJP leader L K Advani Thursday stoked a fresh controversy saying

Srinagar, Nov 7: Kash-mir’s higher reaches Thursday received fresh snowfall while the overall temperature in the Valley remained several degrees above the freezing point, official said.

Awantipora (Pulwama), Nov 7: Suspected mili-tants shot dead two paramilitary CRPF personnel in Awantipora town of South Kashmir Thursday evening, official said.

“Militants attacked a party of CRPF in Jawbe-hara area of Awantipora on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway at around 5:30 PM, killing two troopers on the spot,” police sources said. They said that the slain troopers belonged to 130 Battalion and were identified as Pradeep Ganna and Mahesh Ram.
