The RAF II utilizes two techniques toremove dust: cyclonic separation andmedia filtration. Dust laden air entersthe filter through a low involute inlet1 where it meets a deep particledeflector 2 . This combination causesa cyclonic downward deflection oflarger particles to the hopper.

This separation step allows for veryheavy dust loadings, reduces abrasionand lowers the energy requirementfor removing remaining particles.

The air then passes through the filterbags 3 which filter out theremaining fine particles. The nowclean air flows into a clean airplenum 4 and exits through an outletduct for recycling or venting toatmosphere. The dust captured on thefilter media is discharged into thehopper by the reverse air cleaningmechanism 5 .

HIGH PERFORMANCE / LOW ENERGY USEEnergy Savings

A true evaluation of a dust controlsystem should consider energy con-sumption as it applies to the completefilter system—and not merely to anyone component. This is why allMikroPul dust filters are designed tofunction as an integral part of thetotal system in combination with itsexceptional capabilities for reducingoverall operating costs.

For example, our Reverse Air Filter IIis cleaned by either an economical 5,10, 15, or 20 hp motor and costs verylittle to operate. But more important-ly, each bag is cleaned once every120 seconds by utilizing the efficientreversed flow of processed air.

This complete and systematiccleaning dramatically reduces thepressure drop across the media aswell as the load demands on thecomplete fan system. Systems thatemploy random air pump cleaningmay require the same horsepower, but do not clean each bag every 120seconds. Because of this, some bagscan go for an extended time withoutcleaning, causing higher pressuredrops across the media, whichincreases demands on the total fansystem and ultimately leads to higherenergy costs.

The MikroPul involute air entryexpends less overall energy than aconventional air inlet. It allows heavydust particles to drop out into thefilter hopper. This initial separatingout of larger dust particles results ingreater energy savings and less wearand tear on filter bags. Eachcontributes to lower operating costs.

Additional energy savings areachieved by recycling plant airpreviously heated or cooled. Due tothe short contact time of air passingthrough the filter, the cleaned air isnot affected by outside temperatures,so no additional energy is expendedto heat or cool make-up air.

Reduced Maintenance

All bag inspection and removaloperations were designed to simplifymaintenance procedures and keepmaintenance costs down.

A viewing port and lighted plenumallows the operator to visually inspectthe bag cleaning system from outsidethe filter.

The walk-in plenum permits top bagremoval from the clean air side. Thisoperation simply requires extractingthe drop-in cage from the snap-inbag.

Our washable, wear-resistant bags aredesigned and constructed to delivermaximum efficiency. They are madeof 16 oz. singed polyester felt with a2 inch wear strip at the bottom toprotect against abrasion.

Special Features

Sectionalized, Bolted-In Tube Sheet—If the filter tube sheet is damaged, itcan be easily unbolted and removedthrough the plenum door. Filters thatemploy welded-in tube sheets requirecutting and welding to removedamaged plates, in addition toreplacing the entire mechanical section. This can result in considerabledowntime and expense.

Integral Cleaning Fan and Manifold—The MikroPul Reverse Air bagcleaning operation is accomplished byeffectively using a simple reverse flowfan. The fan and manifold rotate abovethe tube sheet and filter bags, eliminat-ing friction and metal-to-metal contact. There are no valves, dampers orcompressors to maintain. And withthe absence of compressed air, thereis less risk of explosion because noadditional oxygen is beingintroduced.

Conical 60° Hopper—preventsbridging and the need for anyadditional, expensive augerdischarge. Each hopper is equippedwith a large, bolted access door andflanged outlets.

Rugged High QualityConstruction and Finish

Constructed of carbon steel, the RAFII can withstand ±20" W.G. and issuitable for severe environments.Filters are equipped with relief panelssecured with safety chains of unevenlengths to reduce the possibility ofthe door becoming a projectile.

Our standard paint surface prepara-tion meets SSPC-SP6 specifications.Every unit is primed (2.0-2.5 mils)inside and outside and finishedoutside with polyester epoxy paint(2.0-2.5 mils). This painting methodhas passed a 500 hour salt spray test.

Metallurgies, surface preparation andfinish can be customized to suit yoursite or process requirements asnecessary.
